It's their new affordable fashion brand that's accessible to any budget, but with clothes you won't find at places like H&M or Uniqlo. Lots of basics with modern cuts and enough style for the streets of Paris, or anywhere in the world you might wear their stuff. Their jeans are one of the things most people come here for, and while I didn't buy any, I can see why someone would. They look great and the price is right. You might want to bring an extra suitcase on your next trip, because you're going to run out of room in your carry on.

Almost every designer you can think of is here, making this a must-see and a must-shop when visiting Paris. And it doesn't stop inside Galeries Lafayette--the entire surrounding area has stores for days! Lights, glitz, glamour, luxury, and fashion everywhere you turn. It reminded me of an upscale New York City 42nd Street, but with that beautiful Parisian elegance. Even if you're not planning to shop, go for the experience. I've been to this department store a number of times over the years, and I both enjoy it and fear how completely it can suck up precious vacation hours. It's a fantastic place to shop, with a ton of well curated inventory spread out across multiple floors in multiple buildings. The main building features that beautiful domed ceiling, which manages to catch me by surprise every time I walk in. I haven't had the opportunity to shop for my own clothes here in a long time, but I've gotten some really great stuff on the children's floor, and discovered the souvenir section on my last visit, where I picked up some cool Paris Metro toy trains and magnets. We did somehow get stuck at Galeries Lafayette for over two hours and ended up skipping Notre-Dame, which might have been a better place to spend our last afternoon in Paris. But it was sale season, and my kids look super cute in their heavily discounted Petit Bateau. Galeries Lafayette is busy and sometimes overwhelming, but it's a wonderful department store. I wish we had something like it back home. I'd much rather shop there than fall for targeted ads on Instagram.

Jamie W and I made it a priority to visit Galeries Lafayette because of the famous Art Nouveau dome, which was indeed fabulous (review: https://yelp.to/XRXnKANd7b). We decided to visit Printemps as part of our rainy day itinerary because we figured it would be a good chunk of time where we could stay dry indoors. We were right, and the store was less crowded and easier to navigate than its direct competitor. We found ourselves at the charming Cafe Perche on the 7th floor, where we relaxed over rich 6,50€ Chocolate Chauds and delicious butter cookies (Photo 8). Afterward, we found ourselves on two different rooftop terraces, the first was a more contained space that provided immediate views of the area as well as the architectural detail. The second space was actually an entryway to a nice-looking restaurant (Le Picnic) but still provided glorious panoramic views for freeloaders like us. One floor down was an upscale food hall. Printemos has its own Art Deco-style dome, but it doesn't have the grandeur of Galeries Lafayette (Photo 5).
