I came here because they have literally hundreds of frames to choose from and they help you find the ones you want! Jamie was there when my glasses were ready and made sure everything was perfect. After my experience here I won't go anywhere else!

Not good. I've been wearing glasses or contacts for more…read morethan 30 years. I experienced here was less than desirable. The doctor was very cold and almost argued with me about wanting contacts with progressive vision. He was adamant that I wouldn't be able to see right but I've been wearing progressive contacts for 15 years. He was very quick to put drops in my eyes without telling me what they were except to say that he could see my eyes better. Had I known and he was dilating my eyes I would've protested. You can't determine if a prescription possibility works if your eyes are dilated. He handed me to context in the dark exam room, said put them on and I'll be back in five minutes. It was extremely awkward, putting them on without proper lighting and a mirror that was at a decent level. He didn't come back for almost 20 minutes when I finally moseyed into the hallway and asked where he was, he was caught up on his computer on another case. He walked in almost upset that I disrupted him. Told me to go home, wearing them and to give them my glasses so that they could send them out with the new prescription. So I left with contacts in my eyes, I couldn't see, I didn't know if the prescription would work properly and I had to give up my glasses which I did willingly. Needless to say, I came home hunting for my readers after realizing I can't see worth a darn with these contacts in. I called the next morning to tell them the prescription was not appropriate for my vision and then I wanted my glasses back. She informed me that she already sent them out with the new prescription. How do you order a new prescription without knowing if it's the right prescription or not? I need to wait several days for my glasses to come back. I wrote/vented on Facebook on a public group. Before picking up my glasses when they came in a lady from the office called me wanting to talk about my post line by line. I told her that was inappropriate to come at me about a public post. After $500 later I picked up my glasses. And I was right they are not the correct prescription for my vision. Now I'm stuck going to a different eye doctor and paying out-of-pocket for my exam since I used my insurance with Springhill eye. I'll also have to come out of pocket for my glasses and contacts. I forgot to mention that when he sent me home with the context in my eyes, he never sent me home with the contact lens case or contact lens solution or anything. I'm not used to that as every eye doctor I've ever been to sets you up for success by providing those things. If I could save someone from going to this facility, I hope this posted that. They are a family run facility and said they've been in business for a very long time, but I don't see how given the customer service I received.

Misdiagnosed me twice, MISSED CRITICAL DISEASE!!!…read more DO NOT GO HERE!!! They Misdiagnosed my eye exam and gave me the wrong prescriptions twice! They completely missed the disease I had which was the reason my vision was blurry. I could have suffered permanent vision damage had I listened to them and not gone somewhere else. They were not apologetic at all, refused to admit any fault, and became extremely defensive claiming that I was being rude at their office when I politely explained my situation and that I wanted my money back. I came here when I noticed my vision was getting blurry. I did a full eye exam with the doctor and he said I had a slight stigma then prescribed me glasses. The prescription was wrong on both eyes. Came back a second time, prescription was still wrong on my dominant left eye. I finely went to Walmart where there the ophthalmologist there correctly diagnosed me with Keratoconus, and gave the right prescription for my glasses (Which in the end I barely need since the issue is Keratoconus). When I came back to tell them my diagnoses and ask for my money back the receptionist eventually said "We will speak to the doctor then let you know" then promptly dismissed me, by turning her attention elsewhere. When I eventually spoke to a supervisor over the phone, she told me; and I quote "I spoke to the doctor and he disagrees with the diagnosis that you have Keratoconus." Well guess what, thanks to the ophthalmologist that I saw at Walmart, I went to a specialist who did indeed confirm I have Keratoconus. Keratoconus is a progressive disease without a cure outside of Corneal Transplant. Thanks to this ophthalmologist I am now getting the treatment called corneal collagen cross-linking to stop further degeneration of my eyes. Something I would have completely missed and my eyes would have progressively gotten worst had I listened to this place. It's ridiculous that Walmart of all places had a better ophthalmologist then the "Hernando Eye Institute" but I can't stress this enough. Please DO NOT GO HERE! Not if you value your sight!

Extremely pleased and happy to have a new eye doctor at this location. The practice is now Newsom…read moreEye. Today I had the pleasure of being examined by Dr. Bottaro. It was time for my yearly eye exam plus I was having some issues. The visit started with a wonderful greeting from the front desk. I found the young lady to be extremely pleasant and helpful. Next a very nice young gentleman took me to the back and performed a bunch of examination procedures prior to my seeing the doctor. I was waiting in the exam room when I was taken for some eye photographs. Then back to the room to see the doctor. The doctor had reviewed all my information and then wanted to hear from me about the issues I was having. After an extremely thorough examination the doctor went over everything with me. The doctor talks in plain English so you're not left wondering what all the medical terms are. Very happy to hear my eyes are in excellent condition. I do have cataracts, not at the serious point yet, which we will address in six months at my request. Not a surprise as I knew I had the cataracts. The doctor answered every question I had and I left extremely happy. When I lived in SC I used to visit the eye doctors at MUSC. This examination was the best eye examination I had since I move from SC to Florida! I will HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr Bottaro!!! This doctor is one of the absolute BEST doctors I have every seen. I can't say enough good things about this doctor. Oh, I did read the reviews on Newsome Eye at their other locations and I am surprised many complain about the length of time it took. Let me say a few words about time. First you should consider all respectable and caring eye doctors will take emergency eye visits as certain conditions can require immediate surgery! Secondly a really thorough eye exam doesn't take minutes! Based upon my experience I know a very thorough eye exam, for my eyes, can easily take 1.5 to 2 hours. I have been to other less caring eye doctors who give you a fast exam, answer minimal questions, don't explain anything to you then rush you out the door! If you want a thorough exam it takes time!

Very misleading on their website since VSP is on their list of all insurance they take. What a joke.
