I have lived within 30 miles of Leo's Homemade Ice Cream for the majority of my life... and somehow never knew it existed. Which, honestly, feels like a personal failure at this point. When my Friday night post-dinner dessert plans fell apart, Leo's popped up as a backup option -- and what a plot twist that turned out to be. We arrived around 7:15pm on what was easily the nicest Friday evening of the year so far, and the place was PACKED. Line out the door, people everywhere, full-on "this must be good" energy. But here's the impressive part -- the line moved FAST. Before I knew it, I was inside trying to make one of life's hardest decisions: choosing a flavor. Leo's offers a huge variety of homemade ice cream flavors, and you can tell they take pride in having something for everyone. From classic favorites to more creative options -- and even a sugar-free vanilla option -- there's a ton to choose from. I genuinely stood there for a minute just taking it all in. I ultimately went with a kid's dish of S'mores, and WOW...this was easily one of the best S'mores ice creams I've ever had. Super creamy, perfectly balanced, and packed with flavor. The graham cracker, chocolate, and marshmallow all showed up exactly how they should -- no one ingredient overpowering the others. Just smooth, nostalgic, campfire-in-a-bowl perfection. Also, can we talk about value for a second? $3.50 for a kid's dish? In this economy?! Absolutely worth it. One of the biggest surprises, though, was the space itself. There's plenty of on-site parking, and out back is a huge picnic area with tables, chairs, and even a covered patio. It's the kind of setup that makes you want to linger -- not just grab ice cream and go. Total summer evening vibes. And I have to give a quick shoutout to something I deeply appreciate: their hours. Leo keeps it simple -- open every day from 12pm to 9pm. No guessing, no seasonal "are they open today?" confusion, no wonky schedule to keep track of. Just consistent, reliable ice cream access, which I respect immensely. Now that I know Leo's exists, it's officially in my regular rotation. I already have a mental list of flavors I need to go back and try (including that sugar-free vanilla, because now I'm curious), and I can absolutely see myself spending warm evenings out back enjoying more of Leo's frozen goodness. Leo's is my family's favorite ice cream establishment in Carlisle. My wife loves the robust flavor options, my kids love that they have chocolate and vanilla. All of us love that there is ample outdoor seating that makes eating ice cream and hanging out much easier to do. Neither my wife nor I mind that it is cash only (I mean our credit union is right around the corner). So why only three stars? In short, I can't eat ice cream here. Of the handful of ice cream shops in town that my family rotates between, this is the only one that doesn't offer vegan options. My husband is stuck on Grapenut and I like any of their coffee flavors plus their fruits like black raspberry or blackberry and butter pecan but that is 2nd to Brusters or maybe tie with 3B's. The shop is staffed youthful high school or college students. The quality of the ice cream is good. You can tell it's a commercial version of homemade ice cream as the consistency is something the typical homemade does not have. The ambiance is simple and spotlessly clean. You'll get a little of a mid century ice cream shop vibe. Flavors are mostly normal, but some are unique. The night we stopped in, three people ordered rum raisin and I was the only outlier with the peanut butter swirl. The cream was fine. Pretty typical. Not icy, not mushy, so that's good. We all ordered small cups which is more than $4 each. Two of us received small cups with one small scoop with about 1/2 cup of ice cream. That would make a pint of it cost over $16. You'd be much better off buying a pint and splitting it. Two of our party ordered the same size but got a larger cup with a larger serving, about 1 medium sized scoop with about 1 cup of ice cream. I'm not sure how that happened. Having not been there before, I can't tell if two of us were cheated or two of us got a windfall. I didn't pay so I'm not sure what we were charged. Perhaps we were given the wrong thing and charged accordingly. I don't know. If the small cups we received were truly the small size and were over $4 for about a 1/2 cup of ice cream, it's just not worth it. Maybe we just got a stingy scooper, but for what equates to $16 a pint, I can go to the store and get a pint of equal or better quality for about a 1/4 of that price. I usually give places a second chance, but I'm not sure. Definitely worth trying once. I wish I knew if we were given stingy scoops or if that's truly what you get for that price. I'd also like to know why orders came in two different sizes when we all asked for a small. Did two of us get kid sized cups? I'll never know . . . Take your cash because they don't take credit cards. I'm sure they're losing clients because most people don't carry enough cash these days to pay for more than one scoop at this location. read more

Homemade ice cream is something I love to make, even with my dinky ice cream maker. But when I can buy a pint for less than $5 I'm going to return again and again. Unfortunately I'm here visiting and am leaving this Saturday, but it's nice to be only a mile away from delicious ice cream. I visited twice this week. The first time I purchased Salt Caramel, Pumpkin, and Rum Raisin. The salt caramel was almost TOO salty, but it ended up being just to the point where each bite leaves you eating more. The rum raising was GOOD, not too sweet and not too rummy. As for the pumpkin, each bite left me wanting a LITTLE more pumpkin, and unfortunately I was never fully satisfied. My second visit I purchased Peanut Butter Swirl, Chocolate Salt Caramel, Cherry Chocolate Chip, and Oatmeal Raisin Cookie. The cherry chocolate chip won this round, with it not being too overpowering cherry-wise and the chocolate chips complimenting it well. The peanut butter swirl came in a close second, but c'mon, PEANUT BUTTER ICE CREAM you can't go wrong there! It's a good thing I don't live here, I'd put on plenty of weight and stop drinking beer. Sadly I wasn't able to get many photos before we left. The ice cream was pretty good I got a rocky road and butterfinger ice cream and my wife got two vanilla marshmallows I liked the rocky road cause the nuts weren't hard like usual when I get it from other places the prices were kinda crazy but the taste was pretty good and we took a two hour drive and the ice crew wasn't that melted so we was happy about that. The workers was pretty friendly although my wife didn't like how they didn't have hairnets and their hair was flinging everywhere.
