I have lived within 30 miles of Leo's Homemade Ice Cream for the majority of my life... and somehow…read morenever knew it existed. Which, honestly, feels like a personal failure at this point. When my Friday night post-dinner dessert plans fell apart, Leo's popped up as a backup option -- and what a plot twist that turned out to be. We arrived around 7:15pm on what was easily the nicest Friday evening of the year so far, and the place was PACKED. Line out the door, people everywhere, full-on "this must be good" energy. But here's the impressive part -- the line moved FAST. Before I knew it, I was inside trying to make one of life's hardest decisions: choosing a flavor. Leo's offers a huge variety of homemade ice cream flavors, and you can tell they take pride in having something for everyone. From classic favorites to more creative options -- and even a sugar-free vanilla option -- there's a ton to choose from. I genuinely stood there for a minute just taking it all in. I ultimately went with a kid's dish of S'mores, and WOW...this was easily one of the best S'mores ice creams I've ever had. Super creamy, perfectly balanced, and packed with flavor. The graham cracker, chocolate, and marshmallow all showed up exactly how they should -- no one ingredient overpowering the others. Just smooth, nostalgic, campfire-in-a-bowl perfection. Also, can we talk about value for a second? $3.50 for a kid's dish? In this economy?! Absolutely worth it. One of the biggest surprises, though, was the space itself. There's plenty of on-site parking, and out back is a huge picnic area with tables, chairs, and even a covered patio. It's the kind of setup that makes you want to linger -- not just grab ice cream and go. Total summer evening vibes. And I have to give a quick shoutout to something I deeply appreciate: their hours. Leo keeps it simple -- open every day from 12pm to 9pm. No guessing, no seasonal "are they open today?" confusion, no wonky schedule to keep track of. Just consistent, reliable ice cream access, which I respect immensely. Now that I know Leo's exists, it's officially in my regular rotation. I already have a mental list of flavors I need to go back and try (including that sugar-free vanilla, because now I'm curious), and I can absolutely see myself spending warm evenings out back enjoying more of Leo's frozen goodness. Better late than never, I guess -- but wow, have I been missing out.

They offer lots of great Leo's merch for sale, like sweatshirts and t-shirts. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because the ice cream itself didn't strike us as any better than, say, Five Guys or Dairy Cream. It's not bad, and in a pinch can satisfy a craving, but it didn't stand out to us as exceptional.

The signal of sweat ignited the inner petition for a sweet treat - particularly one of a frozen delight. I surveyed the Carlisle and Harrisburg market for local legends, amidst the mass never-ending chains, and I landed on Masseys which from the outside appeared to have the right to call itself a landmark. Wait... LB... what are you doing in... don't worry about it. Labors. Completing my labors. The old school vibe and the trixie tang of Chanel No.5 cream told me most of what I needed to know. This was gonna slap, snap, snip, snop, stomp, twist and tuck. And if it didn't - I'd fall to my knees right in that parking lot. I'd be forced to bow down onto my knees and beg to the Gods for strength as Heracles once did during his own labors. For my penance, as those before me, I'd continue across a distance on said knees to showcase my humility and my humbleness like nobody else is capable of. Lucky for me - I popped open the door and was welcomed with delightful attitude. Everyone in the vicinity was happy. Not one mildly content face, nobody sad. All happy people eating happy ice cream. GREAT SIGN. And listen. If ya know the playa, ya know the game. Custard is superior. If custard is available... I'm crushing some custard baby. Book it, bake it and shake it baby. Yea shake that thing. I'm gonna take that thing. So yes. I peeped that menu for a split pea of a second and I jumped on the train. Up the coast and through the valleys. I end a top the Arctic Mount. Swiveled, churned and concreted. Atop the mountain I laid out a yell, a yell so grand it shook the shoulders of Atlas who did his best to maintain the weight of the world I run on his shoulders. Now... we ain't talking about ice cream. We talking bout Custard. We are talking about custard. THIS... THIS is custard. This is maybe dictionary custard. This is thicker than Aunt Jemima (RIP). This is thicker than a bowl of oatmeal. Thiccc will triple Cs. Dense... dowry worthy in its declaration of density, dominance and delivery. My hotel was nearby, but because of its stature I had no worry of waiting to eat it until I arrived back. Zero drip and almost no melt. Vanilla custard, M&Ms and brownie bits. The brownies were some of the best mixed-in brownies I've ever had. A weaker man wouldn't have finished this concoction. But I'm 16, 17, 20 something % body fat and I run on the saturated fat of this cream. Eggy, creamy, sweet, filling... really hit the shpotttt. Satisfied and stomichfied - My lackluster excuse for abdominals stiffened and became more defined as happiness is the true path towards washboard abs. Massey's, an underrated Yelp gem. If you don't have access to quality custard this will blow your mind. As a custardy cutie myself this didn't absolutely trample my temple - she ain't the best I ever had, nor in that convo - but she was well worth my time and more than worth the dime. I'll never be back in Pennsylvania as I've now concurred all the communities, courts, towns and cities. Every single area. Seen. Labors Done. Whatever... enough about me and my glory. Cheers to Masseys. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the Mount of your Arctic. A 5 outta 5.

So when Destiny Dairy Bar showed up on my feed talking about "come snuggle piglets for $25!" there was no internal debate. No hesitation. No weighing the pros and cons. I immediately booked a Piglet Snuggle Session. Honestly...I don't think I've ever typed my credit card number faster. Booking online was incredibly easy, and from the moment I reserved my spot, Destiny Dairy Bar knocked the customer service out of the park. They sent multiple emails leading up to my appointment explaining exactly what to expect, reminding me about my reservation and providing the required waiver ahead of time so there weren't any surprises when I arrived. Five stars before I even touched a pig! I arrived about 15 minutes early and checked in at the farm store. The staff couldn't have been friendlier. They encouraged me to wander around the property until my session started, which turned out to be a great suggestion. There were goats. Cows. Adult pigs. A donkey named Pamela. And plenty of opportunities to wander around smiling at animals living their best lives. When it was time for my session, everything started right on schedule. My farm guide explained how to safely hold the piglets and then basically said..."Have fun!" Don't mind if I do! The best part? I wasn't rushed at all! I had the opportunity to hold any of the piglets I wanted but settled in with the tiniest little guy of the bunch. Three and a half pounds. Curled up in my arms. Completely asleep. For most of the twenty-minute session. I don't know if he chose me...or if I chose him...but we were best friends by the end. The staff member even offered to take photos for me, which I appreciated so much since I was visiting on my own. Instead of trying to awkwardly balance a piglet while taking selfies, I was able to simply enjoy the experience and leave with wonderful memories! PRO TIP: Arrive a little early so you have time to explore the rest of the property. The piglets may be the headline attraction, but they're definitely not the only adorable residents you'll meet. At $25 per group (up to four people), I honestly think this is one of the best values for a unique experience you'll find anywhere. Whether you're bringing kids, your partner or just embracing your inner animal lover like I did, it's twenty minutes of pure joy! Now...I do have one confession. After I got home...I may or may not have Googled plans for building a piglet house. I'm not saying I'm getting a pet pig. I'm just saying...the research has begun. Until then, I'll happily keep coming back to Destiny Dairy Bar whenever I need a piglet fix!

A Must-Visit for Ice Cream Lovers!…read more Urban Churn is hands-down one of the best ice cream spots I've ever been to. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is inviting and full of charm. I tried their Dutch Chocolate, and it was absolutely unforgettable. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to let you sample before you commit -- which you'll appreciate, because choosing just one flavor is nearly impossible. They had the standard flavors of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, etc... but they also had unique flavors, like lemon meringue pie and lychee martini. I also saw pints of jalapeño margarita in their cold freezer with pre-prepared. - Quality. Delish! Their mango sticky rice actually has little bits of sweet sticky rice, which added a nice subtle texture. Their lemon meringue pie had a nice lemon flavor that was slightly tart, but still sweet, and Graham cracker crust swirled in. - Service. You can ask for free samples. - Cost. You pay per scoop and whether you order a cone. I don't remember the cost per scoop, but based on what we ordered, to include the quality and portions of the scoops, I would say it's good value for money. What's Not - Location. It's at the end of a fairly large plaza, so it's easy to miss, depending on where you are in the plaza. - Seating. There are a few tables and chairs. There's also a short counter with a few high chairs. I'm sure there are days that are crowded that make it difficult to find seating, so be prepared for the day and time you go. We specialize in providing local meat, eggs, and agritourism." And honestly, Megan's doing a phenomenal job bringing the community together around agriculture. I first stopped by Double Vision Acres over the summer just to check it out and was impressed with their farm store and selection of butchered meats. But when I saw they were hosting an event called Flannel Fest, I knew I had to make a return trip. I mean... free parking, free admission, free live music, and free petting zoo access if you wore flannel? Challenge accepted. I got there around 1:30 p.m. and found plenty of parking in the field just a short walk from all the action. The parking attendant was super helpful and friendly -- always a good sign. The place was hopping, with families, couples, and plenty of folks in flannel soaking up a perfect sunshiney fall day. Cody Ross Smith was performing live, the music was great, and the overall vibe was exactly what you want from a fall festival -- laid-back, cheerful, and full of small-town charm. Fire pits were burning, hay bales had been turned into makeshift couches, and kids were running around between the petting zoo and the play areas, having a fantastic day! The farm store was open too, selling baked goods, meats, and handmade soaps and lotions. It was the kind of afternoon that makes you wish fall could stick around forever. Huge kudos to Double Vision Acres for not just running a farm, but building a sense of community around it. Well-organized, family-friendly, and totally worth the drive. If you're looking for a place that serves up wholesome small-town fun with a side of s'mores and livestock -- this is it. I came for the flannel, stayed for the vibes, and left smelling faintly of hay and happiness.
