Located next to an auto mechanic shop, is this small restaurant serving up some good bbq. Friendly and fast service. I went in on a Thursday afternoon around 4:00 pm and was the only customer when I entered. I ordered a rib tips and hot link combo I also got an order of 6 wings, both orders came with fries and a couple slices of white bread and choice of bbq sauce (I got the hot bbq). Everything was up to par for me, but I think I should have got all the sauces because although I like hot and spicy, I was hoping for a little sweetness in the sauce so if I mixed them, it probably would have been the flavors I was looking and craving for. The fried wings were pretty good and the rib tips were as well. I wouldn't say it was the best barbecue I ever had but definitely a good spot if you are looking for some decent barbecue. What a shame, my family and I loved getting food from here, but had a horrible customer experience just now. My brother ordered food and right after made another order because he realized he didn't order enough, what he ordered was 4 drums w sauce on the side. One of the employees in the back yelled "why can't he be ready and make up his mind" my brother was confused but both the less ignored him got his food and left. We came home and saw that he put the sauce on the chicken as a way to "get back" at my brother. The order was for picky children. I called and spoke to the manager and he said the situation wasn't about my brother which it clearly was no one else was there and said my brother ordered food the sauce in the chicken which is another lie because he heard the order repeated back 4 piece drums sauce on the side we never order sauce on the chicken. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and give them a 4 Stat rating because their food was great, their customer service was great and the food came out very quick. Unfortunately, it wasn't what I was expecting. I ordered their large rib tip and hot link combo. I also asked for hot bbq sauce. The only problem was I didn't taste any heat whatsoever on the tips. It tasted like plain ol bbq sauce. A very delicious bbq sauce, just not spicy. Their hot links also didn't have any heat. They tasted more like Italian sausage then a hot link. The links and tips were tasty. They tasted fresh and had plenty of meat on them. Just sadly no heat. The combo also came with fries and 2 slices of bread. Overall a very tasty and filling meal. I haven't had this spot bookmarked long. I wanted bbq so I decided to check them out. Only an hour before closing so I was really praying I didn't get any left over garbage. There wasn't anyone else waiting so I was able to order quickly. I had already browsed the menu and knew I wanted the wing, tip, & link combo mild. As I waited a call in order walked in. I waited not even 5 mins and my order was ready. Call in order walked out w/me too. I drove back home 30 mins and the food was still warm. Good sign! Only thing is the wings weren't crunchy anymore they didn't travel well, but I can tell they were good. My link was really good, the tips were good too. I'm on the fence about the tips and the prep if they're boiled 1st. They do have a smoker I also saw the wood. Bbq sauce is BOMB.... All in all I'd go back when I have a bbq craving. I was excited to try this and just sampled the order I drove to pick up. While it's not bad, it's not very good, either. It tastes like a cheap imitation of what it should be, but I guess the neighborhood dictated the quality of this food. I should've known when I called to confirm this place was open. The voice on the other end was polite and sounded happy-go lucky. I didn't think I should be concerned, but it was actually the first red flag. The second red flag is the demographic I saw patronizing the place when I showed up. To me, it was uncharacteristic of the demographic I typically see at bbq joints in the hood-those hole in the walls with food that's off the chain! The third red flag was the speed in which my order was made. I ordered a large rib tip and 3 wing dinner and I got it in about 3 minutes. I was doubtful of the quality regarding that because again, demographics and protocols at places traditionally serving this fare usually don't move too fast-maybe because the food is the truth and good food sometimes takes time to make, with passion and care. While eating this order, I get no hint of smoky flavor that is characteristic of pit smoked bbq, but that's my fault, I just assumed it would be either charcoal or pit smoked, considering the originator's background. This meat tastes like it was put in the oven and broiled and then sauced. I asked for hot bbq sauce but what I'm tasting is far from spicy. Overall, in a pinch it might suffice and I only came here because bbq places are typically closed on Mondays, but surprisingly, this one was open. I guess this also was a red flag I totally missed, but I know better for next time and will just hold my craving until a day when a real bbq restaurant serving my demographic is open. I loved this placed I have been coming here for literally years! But very bad customer service the last time I came. I ordered what I always order for years, which was chicken legs with hot bbq sauce on the side and a small order of rib tips. I got my order and went home, unpacked my food to find out they gave me 2 orders legs and they put the sauce on the chicken, it smothered with sauce. I told the guy at the counter the issue. First of all he kept blaming me that I told him to put sauce on the chicken which I did not, again I have been going here for years and never once have I ever asked for the sauce on the chicken and this guy has seen me come in for years. So he was willing to refund me for one of the orders but he wouldn't fix the order I got by giving me chicken with sauce on the side and the really F'd up part was he wouldn't let me buy another order of chicken legs. I ordered rib tips. These are the best quality rib tips I've eaten and I have eaten at plenty of different places, from neighborhood joints to upscale. The quality of the meat is excellent.. There aren't any hard, tough, overcooked bony pieces of meat. All the meat is the true tip with the gristle. The sauce is excellent, and tips are cooked to tender perfection. They are so tender, even the gristle is tender enough for me to eat. I prefer a smoky, charcoal flavor, but I can appreciate the flavor of these tips, too. This has smoke, but it is mild. It reminds me Carnitas with mild smoky flavor. Just be aware of that if want really smoky BBQ, this isn't that type of BBQ. For anyone that knows about Old School Leon's on 79th Cottage Grove.....There is no comparison. This is not Leon's of old. The sauce is similar, but better. The qualtly of the meat is so much better. Even the fries are good without sauce. Customer Service is excellent. I had a slight problem with an order and they took care of it...no problem. They are very professtional. They are fast. I've been been a consistent customer at East 106th Street location for nearly 10 years. Under past leadership, I consistently received great cuts of pork. Rib tips were meaty with limited fat and bones. On Mother's Day, stopped in and place an order. Got home 60% of the rib tips were fat and bones. I was very disappointed. This was simply crap-in-a-container. Had a hankering for some tips and decided to stop by and follow up and express my concerns with the last order with the leadership. I was informed that he now oversees the Archer location. I expressed my concerns with the current leadership at this location. The gentlemen decided to give me a lecture on pork. Unknown to him, I am very knowledgeable in the swine and poultry category (B.S. Agriculture, concentration Animal Science - UIUC). Prepping, cooking and cutting meat does not require a college degree nor a lecture regarding fat content of pork. It's PORK! Basic skill set level knows sections of the pig has a higher fat content. You, the idiot cutting the meat, who has the title of Manager, makes the decision on the quality of cut you choose to provide to your customer. There is a distinct line between leadership (food cost, quality of meat, and making the best decision regarding the cuts of meats to provide to the customer) and being a clerk, simply cutting pieces of meat and placing in a container regardless of the quality of the meat. IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE NOR REQUIRE A DEGREE TO CUT MEAT AND PLACE IN CONTAINER. IT DOES REQUIRE A BASIC LEVEL OF COMMON SENSE TO KNOW IF THE SLAB OF MEAT IS TOO FATTY AND HAS LARGE BONES, MAYBE DON'T TO SERVE TO A CUSTOMER AND EXPECT THE CUSTOMER TO RETURN!!! You never go wrong when it comes to Leon's barbeque. The specials they have (the small combos are under $8) and the bigger a few bucks more. But believe me when I say that the small portions are nothing to laugh at. They fill you up not only with the combo of choice (I suggest ribs and chicken wings) with fries and 2 pieces of bread. Although I am still not sure why bread is offered in the specials. Could it be to soak up any juices that floweth? Hmmm, Not sure but of course I never eat the bread at all. Now the ribs, are always so tender and juicy and you can order them with or without sauce poured on top or on the side, but of course on top is best for me. The day I went in (Friday) I order two large combos, but they cashier let me know that they didn't have access to credit cards due to it being down. I freaked out, I rarely carry cash. But I told him to please downgrade it to two small portions and I would go to my car to get cash. This was a stroke of luck as I NEVER carry cash. The total was $24 and change and once again I was embarrassed to say that I needed to take one of the orders away since I only had $23. He said, no its out fault that's find don't trip out on the few dollars sir. Sir he said! Oh wow, when did I become a sir dammit? But I was kind and polite and told him I would return with the $1 and change. He kept saying, don't worry about it. Even if it's Brighton Park. Seems mostly Mexican operated and should be called DeLeon's, but that shouldn't deter you. Leon's is a total shack that doesn't have seats. Just a window for ordering and picking up. We call ahead and they always estimate our order will be ready in 5 minutes, so they're quick. I can only tell you that their rib tips and hot links are the truth. I haven't messed with anything else yet. I've been eyeing their chicken wings though because they look legit. Their barbecue sauce is on point. I typically don't care for really thick and sweet sauces. Leon's sauce has a good consistency, and it's on the tangy side, so it's right in my wheelhouse. Go for the ribs here, skip the rib tips and the chicken. I don't like the fact that they douse everything in their sauce, which doesn't taste that great anyways. The fried chicken was disappointing. The rib tips were mediocre (Lem's is better!) but those ribs.....damn those are good ribs! Not too fatty, smoked just right! My friend and I shared half a slab for ~$13 and the rib tips/chicken combo for ~$12. They do take credit card ($5 min) and there's an ATM inside.
