Berlin was not on our itinerary when we visited Germany a month ago but on a visit to the AF Base BX Exchange, a brochure about the Base Tour specials caught my eye and it included a weekend tour of Berlin with an overnight stay at the Leonardo Royal Hotel.
I certainly wanted to see Berlin and discover what I have always read about in the papers, The historical Berlin Wall, The Gedenskstatte Museum,The Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. We stayed at the Leonardo Royal Hotel which was located close to Alexanderplatz, the throbbing district, a huge plaza in the heart of Berlin surrounded by trendy boutiques, restaurants, clubs, beer & food stalls. The lobby of the hotel was absolutely simple but elegant, beautiful paintings adorned the walls. Fresh Flowers on vases was refreshing.
We were lucky to have a very pleasant English speaking lady at the reception . Check-in was fast, handed us our keys and showed us the elevators and told us that Continental breakfast will be served on the house between 7:30 to 10:30 am. Our room at the 4th Floor was absolutely gorgeous. Love the small details that went with it, Magenta colored drapes, sofa and bedsheets. Nice contrast to the white sheets and covers. Comfortable bed & pillows, Has an air conditioning, telephone, high speed Internet, Fridge, WLAN Flat screen satellite TV, Minibar, Coffee & Tea machines with individual packets, women friendly rooms, bathroom with bathtubs/shower, hairdryer, cosmetic mirror, desk & table. Smoking rooms and handicapped accessible rooms are also available upon request.
Breakfast was awesome, Fresh bread of all kinds, different kinds of Jams & Marmalades, Butter, Eggs /your choice , Scrambled, Sunny side up, Hard Boiled, cereals, all kinds of sausages, Cold Cuts, Ham, Bacon, choice of Fruit Juices,Different kinds of cheeses, Cereal, Fresh Fruit, Tea and Coffee. Everything was just wonderful..Looking at their brochures they are located mostly in Europe, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Hungary & Israel .
