I met former U.S. President Bill Clinton at the breakfast buffet; I got to start my day by giving him a handshake and exchanged pleasantries which was certainly a unique experience for me. That is just one highlight of many during our great stay. It's also quite famous for being the hotel where Michael Jackson dangled his baby outside of one of the front windows. It's located right next to the Brandenburg Gate and the U.S. Embassy in the center of Berlin so this hotel scores high in walkability. It's a very large and well run 5 star hotel that seems to cater to a lot of business travelers most of all. The check-in was smooth and the entire staff that we encountered was very polite. Our room was quite large and the bed was comfortable. As with many European hotels, the air-conditioning did not work very well, especially between the hours of 11 PM to 6 AM. We ordered some tea to the room and it was very good and the complementary breakfast in the hotel lobby was wonderful. They have tons of options there and it was a great start to our day. Pricing can be a bit high, but it is a 5 star hotel, and it's still less than some other hotels in Berlin. I would say that the price is fair because you really get a lot in return. There are also plenty of cabs and Ubers right out front so if you need to catch a ride, this is a really easy place to do it. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again next time I am visiting Berlin.

Location, location, location. The Adlon is the best hotel in Berlin, if not in all of Germany. The history and refined service cannot be beat.

I went here with my friends for a nice sit down drink. It came as a recommendation from my cousin's fiancé. The hotel is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous and is in the center of the square. We thoroughly enjoyed our German resiling and the amazingly delicious nuts, pretzels and chips that were complementary. Loved the piano playing in the background We will definitely be back again.

Hotel Adlon creates an incredible customer experience. From the check-in process to the daily hospitality, to the speed at which our housekeeping needs were met, to the concierge services, everything was so well-executed. Even when throngs of fans were outside congregating for the World Cup games or hoping to catch a glimpse of The Rolling Stones, who were staying there, the hotel staff ensured that there was no disruption in services to the guests. Overlooking the Brandenburg Gate, this hotel is infamously known for the incident in which Michael Jackson held his son over the balcony but that shouldn't be the only thing the place is known for. They have a 2-Michelin Star Restaurant -Lorenz Adlon (see my separate review for this), a ridiculous breakfast buffet that comes with the room, a gorgeous lobby, beautiful rooms, and a very welcoming and capable staff. Walking into the lobby, large bouquets of fresh flowers greeted us and opulence surrounded us. Our room was luxurious and updated with European-inspired accoutrements. Conference rooms were very accommodating and access to and from the meeting spaces and guest rooms was easy. Despite having just a few elevators, we never waited more than perhaps a minute for one and usually, one was waiting for us. A highlight of each day was the breakfast buffet. Various pastries, breads, cheeses, flavored smoked salmon and trout, breakfast sausages and meats, pretzels, dim sum, rice, fruits, yogurts, cereals, juices, smoothies, teas, and an omelette station are available. Unique aspects of the buffet include a variety of caviars, champagne, and even Berlin honey straight from the honeycomb! Made-to-order menu items such as waffles, pancakes, steak, eggs benedict, and ham are also included. This is definitely one of the best breakfast buffets I've seen. Hotel Adlon provided us with a five-star experience indeed!

This review is actually belated from the pre-COVID era. I gained some new-found courage by passing the exam in my profession last night. I have seen Hotel Adlon's Brandenburg Gate coffee on instagram many times. While I was in Berlin, for law school I might add, I literally bugged my best study abroad friend to come with me to grab coffee or a meal there. This was literally the first place I went to "for the gram." The doormen were nice to us, but from the get go we were treated stiffly by the waiter. Perhaps because we looked young, perhaps because we were dressed down (and I'll be honest as an American used to 72F CA weather I might have been sweating a little due to the summer weather). Since the atmosphere was bad I only ordered this coffee and it came obviously done poorly with no apology or explanation. I have no doubt if we had dressed up as we do for legal events or for the Barristers' Ball, we would not have been treated this way. Please remember that you do not know someone's life, including how much wealth they have or how much they'll spend at your establishment, simply based on looks.

Damaged Desk in the Superior Deluxe Room.

We just stayed here for a week and wow were we surprised with the condition of the rooms. We first stayed in a Superior Deluxe Room. The room had dirt and damage in many places and was well worn. When we checked in the television and heating system did not work. They were unable to send a repair person until 5pm the next day. Their remedy was to upgrade us to an Adlon Executive Suite which had a working TV and heat (yay!) but a lot of wear and damage as well. When speaking with the manager of the hotel, their remedy was to offer me to stay again at a discounted rate. Why would you spend your vacation in a tired room with broken fixtures and stains again? There are much newer choices in Berlin that offer great service, we will choose one of those on our next visit. See the photos, would you spend over $500 euro a night for this?

Beautiful hotel in front of the Brandenburg Door. The lobby is so nice with a vítreau ceiling, the breakfast was the best I had in a hotel! And the location is great for holidays. Hermoso hotel en frente a las puertas de Brandeburgo. El lobby es tan lindo con su techo de vitreau, el desayuno fue el mejor que tuve en un hotel! Y la ubicación es genial para vacaciones.

This is not a place that I can afford to stay over but I appreciate the decorations in the hotel lobby and the lounge next to it People told me that it is actually an attraction - "a place to stop for drinks next to the Brandenburg Gate." Well, they were right. The luxurious feel of the whole lobby was fantastic and luxurious. The waiting staff for the drinks was obviously professionally trained. Their impeccable manner and styles were appreciated. I enjoyed it until my check came which I almost fall off my soft and comfy sofa. Well, I was paying for the drinks AND the experience. With that thought, I was at peace with it and gave the waiter a big tip for his performance!

This is a lovely hotel. The rooms are big and clean, the service is great as well as the location. And it has three more things that I consider the best part of all. 1. Incredible view from the Brandenburg Tor. It's great to come back at night because the Brandenburg Tor is illuminated. 2. It has a lovely lobby. It makes me feel in Casablanca's movie. 3. Sunday's brunch. Definitely one of the best brunches I've tried. It has been a great experience.

Post-Reunification, refined luxury from the international Kempinki chain, located in view of Brandenburg Gate. We stopped for afternoon tea. A pianist played as staff familar with white glove service quickly dispatched each order. I had the Adlon's torte, a specialty that rivals the Torte in Austria. Hotel Adlon's lobby cum cafe offers grouped seating in high-end, upholstered furnishings beneath a high dome of blue and yellow stained glass. Michael Jackson dangled his son, Blanket, from a high, hotel window here in 2002. Ignore that, and the fact that the current structure replaces one burned down when victorious Soviet soldiers were both enthusiastic and careless in the wine cellar in 1945.

We walked to most of the attractions since the weather was so beautiful. The room was very well appointed, modern, and clean. The shower featured water jets from the wall and was very nice. I was pleased to find an iron and ironing board in the closet. Be warned if you ask for a double bed: You'll be given two twin beds pushed together. I kept thinking to myself the London Underground warning of "Mind the gap!" because of a nearly catastrophic 3am separation of the beds, which roll away from each other quite easily. The spa is very small but there were only six loungers and guests were grabbing for them. The pool was quite cold. There are also saunas and an exercise studio, all of which looked well kept. You will be sorry you paid €16 each for the breakfast buffet. It was included in our room fee. The food was of average quality, but there wasn't a large selection to choose from and there were no chefs making omelettes or waffles. Also, the good tables by the windows were reserved for guests staying in the premium rooms. I'm never a fan of a hotel creating a class system amongst their guests. The bar was okay. Not much action there at night. My only complaint was that housekeeping never refilled the coffee in our room on all three nights but the front desk was responsive when we called to complain. I question how many stars this hotel has been awarded. It's advertised as five stars by various online booking sites, but they are not displaying their rating anywhere nor is it mentioned on the hotel's website. I feel it's lacking some critical ingredients to make a five star rating, like no bellhop, concierge, newspapers, or laundry service, our lunch and dinner offered in the restaurant. All in all, I still highly recommend this hotel for tourists who want a great hotel with easy access to the train network.

Terrible wifi connection, terrible check-in process, key didn't work consistently, restaurant didn't have basic menu items, 6 people at the front desk and only 2 were actually working, service staff consistently failed to service the room during a 9 hour periods when I was at work, and then wanted to service at 8am on check-out day. But most of all the attitude of the employees was off putting. Paying customers in a hotel shouldn't feel like their very presence is a burden. Do better for your future customers. I will not be one of them.

I figured, breakfast every morning, why not. I chose a river view room and was not disappointed with the view. The glass doors open to a wonderful view of the river, but don't expect a walk on patio. The room was nice and clean with enough drawers and compartments to hang and unpack all my clothes. I was glad I paid for lounge access. Breakfast hours were from 7A-11A; Candy from 11A-3P; Bite size bakery items from 3P-6P; and Appetizers from 6P-9P. Cold, bottled water, soda, and beer are always available from the refrigerator. Coffee and espresso drinks from a machine are always available as well. I really enjoyed the breakfast. Not only was there a buffet style spread, there was also a menu available and staff who would take your order. I ordered a coffee and fried eggs every morning. Perfectly fried and beautifully presented. Then I started ordering the waffles with cherry sauce. So delicious. Who knew I liked cooked cherries. Evenings, I made certain to get a glass of sparkling or red wine. Staff were awesome. They were always friendly and accommodating in the lounge. Cons: 1. There are no USB charging stations for phones. I had to purchase a power adaptor at the concierge for $10 Euros. 2. There were no wash towels in the restroom for the majority of my stay. 3. Bar of soap available 1 night. 4. When I called housekeeping, it kept ringing, so I hung up.

It is very well maintained, the staff…read moreare beyond friendly and helpful, and it is perfectly situated right in the heart of the city. This being said, there are a few downsides to this hotel, which I will get to in a moment. You should probably consider these before you actually decide to book a room here, as they may affect your stay. To begin with, I want to discuss the location. As mentioned, this hotel is perfectly located right in the heart of Berlin. You are easy walking distance to Museum Island, to Berlin Tower, The Bauhaus, cathedrals, shopping, and dining. Plus, you are located right along the Spree River This brings me to their rooms. I really suggest that you book a river-view room. It really makes the whole lodging experience so much better. You open up your window, and there it is, the Spree River. All of the flavor of Berlin flowing right at your feet. As I am speaking about the rooms, there are a few things you need to consider. The rooms are all very well-designed and they're very well-maintained. They're very clean, and every time that you leave your room in the morning you can be sure that it will be made-up by the time you returned. One of the downsides to this hotel, however, and this fact really blows my mind, is that they do not have USB connections in the room. Thus, there is no place to charge your phone, your computer, or anything else unless you have an AC adapter. It's almost hard to believe that a hotel, in this day and age, would not install USB ports. But the Meliá does not. This brings me to one of the negative points about this establishment, providing me with a real bone to pick with this hotel. I live in the States, and expecting there to be USB ports in the room, I didn't bring a European electrical adapter. I have traveled the globe for over forty years and there has never been one time, at one hotel, that I asked for a power converter that it was not happily provided to me (for free). This hotel, however, does not provide those. The only way I could get a power converter, that fed into a USB cable, was to buy one from the concierge. I really think this NOT a good policy! I mean, come on! With the price of the rooms, and the level of the service this hotel supposedly provides, the guest should at least be provided with a power converter if they need one. The other thing I would like to discuss about this hotel is that you should really get a room that offers their Lounge Service. Their Lounge Service is really a good thing. Not excellent. But pretty good. Yes, with this service, your room will cost a little bit more, but you will provided with breakfast every morning and snacks throughout the day and well into the evening. The Lounge changes their offerings at various times during the day. In the morning they offer breakfast style food. And, it's pretty expansive. Not like a full-on breakfast buffet, offered by some hotels, but a nice integrated offerings of various breakfast items. During the day, they offer appetizers. Plus, all day long and into the night you can grab bottled waters, coolers, and beer. In the evening, they provide what they call a pre-dinner offering. With this, the guest are provided with very nice appetizers that are very well prepared. I've noticed that many guests come in there to eat their entire dinner from the Lounge. You can do that if you want. But, that's not really my style. During the afternoon and into the evening, they also offer a nice selection of wine and self-made cocktails. The other minor beef I have with the hotel, and it's kind of amusing, is the fact that for the first three nights of my week-long stay, they did not give us washcloths. But, on the fourth day, amazingly the washcloth did appear. Why didn't they leave washcloths every night, I do not know? One would think that would be standard protocol. Then, the next thing that happened is on the fifth night, the washcloths were gone. So, I don't know what's going on with that? Additionally, in terms of their housekeeping services, they have a note posted in each room that if you need a toothbrush or a razor they will provide them to you. We had run out of toothpaste, so we thought instead of going and buying some from one of the local shops, maybe we could get some from the hotel, since they were offering it. We called housekeeping services a total of seven times over two days and not one time did anybody answer. Thus, I'm not quite sure what they're offering, or who is manning their stations, but we were not provide with what they claim to offer. All this being said, I have good things to say about this hotel. Yes, there is a few downsides, but overall staying at the Meliá was a very pleasant experience.

The (nonalcoholic) drink minibar is free to take from and refilled daily which is another plus! And they had small chocolates that were refilled daily as well. If you value personal security, rooms can only be accessed with your hotel card and you can only access floors you have reservations to. There is also a separate lift for pool access. Overall, would stay here again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this hotel!!…read more Clean! Super comfy bed with generous pillows and duvet. Customer service was excellent!! Best part? Location! Location! Location! Right in the upper, east side of Berlin where there is excellent shopping, dining and entertainment within walking distance! Landmarks and points of interests are also within walking distance. It took us 15 minutes to walk to Brandenburg Gate. This is definitely bookmarked as a place to stay when we return.

The staff is far less cross than one expects at a German hotel and some--at the desk and in the bar (I notice particularly a young barman from Philly) even charming; and all the staff I have dealt with speak and understand German (even mine), which is not to be taken for granted. these days. The breakfast, praised by others, is indeed quite good and varied (with British and American breakfast dishes, not just those ham sandwiches the Germans like because they know no better); especially good are the scrambled eggs, which, mixed with sausage and spinach, are that rarest of things: scrambled eggs left out in a heated salver that were not perfectly vile. But be warned: the staff will leave a shot-glass full of what looks like orange-juice at your place. It is not: it is wee litte joke: a powerful spiced waker-up potion which has roughly the impact of eating a tea-spoon of Wasabi. And--in the nicest possible way--the staff chortle at your reaction.

This is located in a great spot within Berlin. Walking distance to the museums and many restaurants…read moreand two Christmas markets. We took Uber from the train station to the hotel. Ubers are all over the city and they arrive FAST! The hotel has a gigantic glowing red sign at the top of the hotel so that if you are walking, you can spot it quickly. This hotel is located in what was East Berlin. It is a lovely hotel. There is a lovely grand staircase on the first floor. If you arrive and realize you forgot your power adapter, the hotel will allow you to use one while you are there. They will charge you 20 euros for the use and will remove the charge once you return the adapter. We book our hotels through Marriott.com and use the default settings, we were told that we need to pay extra for the second guest, we said no problem. Elevators: there are 3 running elevators. Room: on checks-in we asked if there were any room upgrades. We got a junior suite (Room 572). A keycard is required to make the elevator move. Room 572 is far from the center of the hotel. Your walk down a long corridor so I was thrilled it is far from the elevators. It is a nice spacious room with sitting area opposite the bedroom. The room runs hot, so we turned off the furnaces and then opened the windows to cool the room down. Even with the furnace off, the room was warm. There is a nice no brand Nespresso machine with pods. There is a mini fridge where you can purchase drinks to consume in your room. Bathroom: very spacious and well lit bathroom that made easy to apply makeup with plenty of counter space. The mirror is the right height for me at 5'8" tall. There is a standing shower. Nice amenities: shampoo, conditioner, body lotion. Living room: nice size TV, desk area with one plug with USB-C and USB connector. There are plenty of European plugs for charging. Couch for watching TV, 2 ottoman style seating for putting on your shoes, and a table for eating snacks. Bedroom: King size bed with nightstands on each side. The night stands have European plugs with 2 USB connectors for charging devices. Smaller TV and tiny when considering distance to the bed for watching TV. Gym: there is a small gym onsite with a sauna. The gym is located in an odd area. We were told go to room 513 and take the elevator down to the gym. Sure enough go to room 513 and there is a tiny elevator. Take it down and you come to a lobby area. The sauna is off to the right but the door was locked the entire time we were here. Then you go around the corner to a series of doors. Open the one directly in front of you and it opens to an awkward open area. It looks like a pool should have been built there. But there are seating places to the right and left and the incense is quite strong, maybe a meditation area? There is a workout area to the left with treadmill and stuff and a water station. Sleep Quality: during the day we could hear noises from other rooms and ambulances screaming by on the street below. At night we could hear people stomping above us but when it came to sleeping time, the noises stopped. The sleep quality was very good but the hotel felt empty for most of the days we were here. During the summer months, it might be a different story. Breakfast: included with our room since we are Marriott Elite. We ate there everyday for our trip and our last day, the young girl was your reservation is only 1 person. We said no, we paid at check-in and 2 should be included for breakfast. After quite is discussion, she was quiet and happy after checking. The breakfast buffet is very nice and highly recommend. There is a nice omelet station. NOTE: There are two Rewe grocery stores within walking distance of the hotel. The first one has a better beer selection. The second is within a bigger mall building and has a better bakery than the first Rewe. Bring your own bags or purchase has expensive reusable Rewe bag.

Overall a full service, clean hotel in a good location…read more Arrival: Arrived by Uber from the main train station. No doormen upon arrival. Check in: Fairly efficient check in process. Asked for a free room upgrade based on my Marriott/Westin status and the clerk upgraded us to a junior suite. Room Junior Suite 572: A large, comfortable room, huge by European standards. The suite included a large living room and a separate bedroom with king bed. Both the living room and bedroom had smallish Samsung TVs (small by U.S. standards). Nice coffee maker and mini refrigerator. Bathroom: Decent bathroom with good counter space and great lighting. Downside is no tub- shower only. Water pressure was adequate. Mediocre but functional hair dryer. Bed: King sized bed with decent linens. We had to remove the heavy liner from the duvet because the room was on the warm side. Sleep quality: Better than average, but some street noise made its way through the windows. Housekeeping: Unless you're proactive in asking, the housekeeping is below average. For example, we had no facial tissues for 2 days. Once we left a note and a tip, the facial tissue was restocked. Sometimes complimentary water was restocked, some days not. Breakfast restaurant: Based on our Marriott status, we received a nice complimentary breakfasts. Service at the breakfast restaurant is pathetic, but the food was good. We consistently were not served coffee. So we simply grabbed coffee urns each morning. Staff for some reason only offered coffee and any level of service to older Germans. Anyone foreign or young the staff ignored. Overall service: Between reluctant and non-existent. That's Germany for you. Don't expect helpful staff. Gym: Small but functional gym with standard exercise equipment like treadmills, weights, etc. Power outlets: Be sure to bring adapters for German outlets. The room had no U.S.-type power outlets. Misc: (1) On our last day, we found a silverfish in the bathroom. Also, this hotel allows pets. We consistently heard dogs barking on rooms. (2) There's a Rewe grocery store about 5 blocks away from the hotel. Bring reusable grocery bags to haul your purchases back to the hotel. (3) We were skeptical but tried a Kebab restaurant nearby. Wow! The Donor kebaps are great! Try Mr. Kebab 4 blocks away.
