Oh Michelberger Hotel, you were cool in so many ways just not the one way I needed you to be. Sleeping with you was exceedingly difficult, given the only relief came from a fan that was more suitable for a desk than for air circulation in a hotel room. I was forced to douse myself in water at regular intervals throughout the night and slumber au naturel. Which wouldn't have been so terrible if I'd actually been able to doze off. I'd never have had to put up with your hot hot heat were your cancellation policy not so draconian. ONE MONTH? Perhaps during Oktoberfest in München, but in Berlin in July? Come now! Another sore point was ending up in "Das Golden One". Every surface of this room was covered in gaudy gold, from the ceiling to the bathroom tiles. An obscene number of gold pillows littered the bed while a golden statue of a dog stood watch. I take back all the times I have ever lambasted a hotel room for being dull or bland; anything is better than golden! Because my room was pretty much uninhabitable, I took to entertaining myself in the courtyard. Sadly, on both nights I stayed here my companions and I were given the tsk tsk between 22:00 and 23:00 and told to scram, despite conversing in hushed tones. While I have no intention of staying here again I can say this, the lunch I had in the courtyard - Schnitzel accompanied by a fabulously fresh green salad - was very good. And if you find yourself in the bar, order up some bison grass vodka with your apfelschorle; it's a lovely combination that reminded me of Christmas.

Cool funky Themed rooms and music. All very relaxing and unique. Come here one and all for a unique experience. Pay extra and get the room with hidey-hole nooks and your own private sauna. Very well laid out and imperfect. Each imperfection is perfect. It is like your favorite super cool cafe with mismatched chairs decided to open a hotel.

Stayed at the Michelberger over New Years! Absolute win on our part booking this hotel. The environment and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. Not to mention all the cozy decoration inside and outside where the smoking area is. We had the luxury room which was beautiful. It was warm and had a nice layout. The only 2 things were there was no complimentary coffee which would've been really nice to have since the room overlooked the outside area which was beautiful in the morning. Also, it would've been nice if there was a double blanket instead of 2 single ones just if you were sharing with someone. Other than that, the breakfast was delicious in the restaurant; had a nice variety of food items and you could even take your plate upstairs if you wanted to. 100% would visit again and would recommend to anyone who's looking for something close, cozy and comfortable! Great experience!

The decor is nice but the service/hospitality was not welcoming. Stayed here for 5 nights: Day 1: After breakfast I was taking photos of my group in the lobby and was told that I couldn't take photos of the property. Day 4: The hotel restaurant was closed for renovations so we went next door to eat. After dinner we brought back our leftovers and the rest of our Coke & Lemonade. The waitress said that we couldn't drink our own drinks in the lobby, then, without asking or giving us a chance to do anything, put our bottles ON THE FLOOR. Huh? This was after we had been buying drinks in the lobby for each of the previous 3 nights, from the same waitress. So she probably recognized us too, but still did that. Sheesh.

Wow. What a cool hotel. The level of rad of this place is through the roof. Some major hits: - They make a coconut water called Fountain of Youth and you can sip on a glass for free at the reception. - I stayed in a Luxus room called The Clever One. Right after I walked in I was so appalled by its beauty that my luggage slipped out of my hands. A whole wall is covered in books. My bathtub was right next to my bed. There are two free shots of alcohol (didn't drink) and two pieces of brownie (they're just ok but hey!) This hotel room is what a luxury room should be - medium space but maximum usage. One thing though I do wish they had a king bed instead of 2 double beds pushed together. - Breakfast tokens look so kawaii. - Cafe downstairs serve really good lattes. - DJ in the hangout area HELLO. - Free alternative Berlin tour. Breakfast is nice but at 16 euros pp I dont think I would do it again. There seem to be other options in the neighborhood.

The charm of Michelberger is all in the details. Where did they get all of this crazy stuff, these cool ideas? The questions go though your mind, but you don't really come up with any answers by the time your stay is over. Why does their entrance say Honolulu? Why does the Big Lebowski play on a loop in every room and hallway? Why do they have their own brand of coconut juice? (Which is really delicious, and free at the desk, but the way) Why do they have "money" printed out with a pictures of the Notorius BIG on it? We got the room called "The Big One" - totally worth it and a great deal. It sleeps up to 8 people in camp-themed bunk beds, each with curtains all around. It also has 2 toilets and 2 showers, which are essential for getting ready for your day or night. The location of Michelberger is perfect. Right in Friedrischshain, across from the tram, U and S Bahn, and next to all that cool hip shit in Kreuzberg. It's also a short train ride or long walk from BERGHAIN!!! You need to (try to) go here during your stay, it really is the best. Points for being almost the only place we encountered in Berlin that takes credit cards. Americans may not be used to this, but bring your cash, because no one in Berlin accepts your Visa, Mastercard, or anything else.

Friendly staff and excellent drinks. This hotel harbors locals and tourists alike in their lounge. If you're if the artsy/hipster/laid-back sort, you won't want to leave! Prices are incredibly moderate and only slightly more than a hostel if you bunk up with someone. Beautiful decor, Big Lebowski on loop in the hallways, awesome garden area and a super rad foosball room. This is the best hotel experience I have had yet and I've stayed at some pretty snazzy places. If you're in Berlin, book here. Just do it.

This was the worst hotel stay I have ever experienced…read more Our last night in Berlin, my girlfriend, our 11-year-old son, and I stayed at the Nhow in Friedrichshain. From around 23:00, we were disturbed by loud noises from upstairs, which escalated into screaming and shouting at about 01:00. We tried to ignore it, hoping it would be over quickly, but the noise kept returning, and we kept trying to fall asleep again. We also had a little boy with us, so we did our best to do nothing and just hope everything was okay. Most guests wouldn't go immediately to the desk in such a situation. When it all escalated again at 4:45 am, we hoped it would end soon, but it only got worse. After four hours of being awake, I called the front desk. The girl on the phone just said they would check it and then hung up. The screaming stopped temporarily, like it did all night, but 45 minutes later, it resumed and was followed shortly after by fighting. My girlfriend then went downstairs to report the situation again and ask for a refund, as we had been unable to sleep all night. They told her they couldn't do anything and that they weren't allowed to evict anyone. Nobody came upstairs, and it was already 6 am. After another period of ongoing chaos, I called again, now really upset, because nothing had been addressed. The staff only appologized but said they couldn't kick the guests out. At that moment, my son was crying and scared from all the yelling, shouting, and fighting. Our entire night and stay were ruined. In the morning my girlfriend went down again very tired from not sleeping and angry because nothing was done about it. The people at the frontdesk just said they also wanted to check out the story of the guest above us as if we lied about the whole night and called, go down, called again , go down and staying up all night for fun or so. Then my girlfriend got mad of course. And Said we would leave bad review on the internet and left. Later on, I also sent them an email with our account of what happened. The reply I received was unbelievable--full of contradictions and completely opposite to what they told us that night. In their email, they claimed they were with the guests and told them to vacate the room when they continued, despite having told us twice that evicting them was not possible. They also stated that someone went upstairs, but when that person was there, everything was quiet; now they tell us they were really at the door. In the morning, they said they first had to talk to the guests to see what they did. So, the email was filled with conflicting statements. At the end, they even accused my girlfriend of trying to blackmail them by threatening to leave a bad review. To say this after a sleepless, stressful night with our scared son is incredibly unfair and shows how little they care about their guests. We have never had such a terrible hotel experience. Our son was frightened by the yelling, fighting and loud noises. The only explanation was this " The hotel itself provided every service you booked and we acted on the troublemakers who are merely guests of our hotel." Providing every hotel service? That's a complete joke. We didn't get any sleep, our son didn't feel safe, and nothing was handled properly.

Bathroom is very small, in fact the rooms are generally small, but consistent with European hotels in that regard. Main problem in the room is not having any space to set things down. Like a table. It's tight in here. But not bad. It's not a major complaint. Also, modern chairs are not comfortable at all. So come on hotel people, stop trying to be cool and buying fancy chairs that hurt your butt. The major complaint, if I have to have one, is that the bar and restaurant close so early! And there aren't that many options at the bar. If I want to chill and relax with my coworkers, there is a much cooler bar experience at Nhow Berlin. Also, while it does feel European, it doesn't give any feeling of being in Germany - other than the TV options, I could be at any Holiday Inn around the world. Oh yes, please guys, some English channels would be most appreciated! Overall, this is a fine place, and I'd stay here again. Not bad for the price!

Even though the rooms are really small, kinda like a Holiday Inn Express, they're big enough to fulfill the purpose of sleeping there. I had a double room with one bed, because they luckily have a smoking floor. The bed was really comfy and i love they have the soft/hard pillows. Enough for 2, lucky me, the girl i was with just needed about 1/4 of it. LOL As i said, new hotel, so new bathroom, really nice, as usual many white soft towels, they carry here Dove hand soap & shampoo dispensers in the shower, nice touch. The bath has a color patterned frosted glass wall towards the room, that was a new thing for me. I really liked the new locks with RFID or NFC they have, and not the usual "swipe-the-card" kind which BTW always give tons of problems. It's great cause i didn't even had to take the card out of my wallet for the elevator or to unlock my room, really cool! I was on the first floor, so not much of a view though, but still i got to see the Berlin Wall and the Spree as they're located just a couple of 100 meters away. On the check in the girl in the front desk wasn't that good, they either don't have a Priority Check in counter or she just didn't care, even though i had my Reservation on my Passbook, she asked again for my name, and all kinds of stuff, well you know Germany and its service. The Restaurant is nice, with a big glass facade from top to bottom and the Hotel has even its own Starbucks inside where you can get drinks charged to your room, really convenient. All in all i'll definitely consider this Hotel the next time i go to Berlin. The Location for me, at least this trip, was beyond amazing, as other friends where staying at the Michel Berger, and the Warschauer Str. Station is within 5 minutes walk. So connections where really good. The Internet was superb, and as usual Free (don't know if for all, but at least for Priority Members it is) and i got pretty good speeds, 25 Mbps symmetrical, for business customers amazing if they need to reach a Server or VPN. I hope other locations get some of the new things they have here upgraded soon, like the locks, elevators and internet. It's pretty nice to have a flat screen hanging on the wall and not on some kind of chest of drawers. Check out was really easy as i did it thru the iOS App and when i got to the front desk this nice guy greeted me, saw on the screen i already checked out and handed me an envelope with my bill. Great, i was out of there in 1 minute, and he actually fulfilled the Priority Club protocol, not like at the check in. Kudos. Oh and of course as a Priority Club member you get 2 extra hours to check out.

My Beloved and I stayed here for three nights (my first trip to the capital), and I found the staff here warm and welcoming, while representing a hotel that is clean but delightfully unconventional (I mean, part of their branding includes Leonid Brezhnev smooching Erich Honnecker for God's sake). When we arrived, our room wasn't ready, but the gentleman behind the counter made amends by offering us a free beer while we waited (which, for a weary traveller coming from the UK, was a welcomed gesture for only a 15-minute wait). East Side is like a haven for hipsters, with charmingly playful colour schemes and eccentric photography dotting the walls. Our room was fairly large, and amazingly, the bathroom was nearly the same square footage. The staff thankfully granted our request to have a room facing the iconic Berlin Wall, which made for fantastic people watching, even in the deluge of autumn rainstorms. East Side is within convenient walking distance from some of the city's best bars and restaurants, which meant we didn't bother taking the U-Bahn until the second day of our trip.
