Pros: 1) Spacious rooms 2) Great breakfast selections 3) There is a Rewe supermarket right across so you can pickup some sodas, beer or snacks for cheap 4) Both Tram and Bahn stations are right across from the hotel Cons: 1) Far from all the tourist spots 2) Not many restaurants options near by, there is an Italians restaurant and a Burger King. we took the trams to eat dinner at other places 3) My biggest issue with the room is the poorly designed bathroom. The shower door is fully sealed to the wall with no opening for steam to escape, if you leave the shower door open, you can't use the toilet because the toilet door couldn't open. So the result is that the shower smells weird. Which means you need to open the windows to get the airflow and it gets noisy Overall, it is a good hotel, I would stay here for conference, but it is far for tourist.

    Plenty of coffee at breakfast

Stayed here for three days while tending to some business and taking in a few of the sights around Berlin. The staff were courteous (example: arrived early the first day and left late the last, but both times they kept my luggage under close watch at reception so I wouldn't have to carry it with around the city), the staff generally spoke English clearly, and the hotel is in excellent condition. I was actually quite surprised how spacious the room was for the price. The room I had was on the 8th floor and actually had a nice view of the Fernsehturm (TV tower) off in the distance, which looked awesome in the sunset. My booking had breakfast included, and the staff work exceptionally hard to keep everything stocked. Also, the fitness center here was excellent with a diverse and plentiful stock of exercise equipment. It made me look forward to getting up every morning to do my yoga and go run. The only downside about this hotel for me was the location in relation to public transportation in Berlin. The tram and the S-train are literally in the middle of the street and accessible by walking in tunnels (that way you don't have to wait at the crosswalk light), but most of my travels involved the underground. So getting around meant I had to first catch the tram to the nearest appropriate underground stop, which could easily add 20 minutes to my travel time. All in all, this is a great hotel. I'll likely book here again when I return to Berlin.

    Nice room!

The only place to stay when you want to be in Marzahn area!! So this hotel is close to work so most of the colleagues stay here. From previous experience, this does not always mean its a nice a hotel or a place if stay at for private. However, Andel's is the exception - I love staying here!!! They have a great modern atmosphere, friendly staff, top renovated, modern rooms and a sky bar with an awesome view! All of this at a super affordable price!!! The rooms: Super modern and clean! Hardwood floors with white closets and flat screen TV hung on the wall. The bathroom has a shower stall enclosed with glass, the toilet is also enclosed in another stall with glass and then there is also a bath tub. There is a Tram stop across the street for easy access to the city (although, I have to admit I've never used it). Next time I'm in Berlin I will definitely look for a room at Andel's.

I got a room at Andel's for what I thought was a great price (around $75/night in late May), and really liked the hotel overall.

While this hotel has a friendly check in service and fun, modern look--oversized lamp in lobby,…read morebright colors, chic graphics, comfy bench swings in small cafe--this is, mostly, a basic room (more on this in a moment). The hotel is located in a heavily trafficked area but good news is there is a fantastic sunny breakfast area on the first floor--so you don't have to skedaddle in the a.m. looking around the hood--with everything from a cappuccino machine to yogurt, fresh breads, eggs, sausages, cheeses, pate, cereals, juices and fresh fruit. Near check in there is a convenient small cafe with pastries, bread, cake, small pizza, tea or coffee with an airy view and cute seating (picnic table style, indoor and out front.) Again, the staff is uber helpful! For example, they can answer geographic questions in detail --thank you, Dennis!--and sell tram tickets at the front desk. As far as accommodations--here we go, whatcha need to know!--the AC is minimal so expect to sweat a lot in your dorm sized room. The WiFi is ridiculously slow--if it works at all--at 4.5 (compared to 120 in Texas). There is no instruction sheet on how to set the thermostat or what time breakfast is at or if there is an ice machine (there isn't one, btw.) No hot pot or coffee mugs. No in room fridge. No tub (the photos online display one) but the small shower in your private bath is pretty decent. The bed IS comfy with large screen tv directly across on wall. Our view was an enclosed green space area with no access to the traffic or big city buildings--yay! Quite relaxing! So if you are wanting a hip place to chill with minimal amenities--but terrific free breakfast--this is the place for you! Hope this helps in your decision process! Photos included. Ciao!

It is brilliantly…read morelocated in the heart of the lively Friedrichshain neighborhood near Boxhagener Platz, within easy access to all other parts of the city (closest U-Bahn Frankfurter Tor) and to all the local eateries, galleries, bars, shops, etc... It is run by the congenial Heinrich Lohwasser who makes all his guests feel welcome and at home. He's very helpful and will provide all sorts of advice, indications, recommendations and make whatever taxi and other travel arrangements one might need. The building is brand new (HPL opened in May 2009) and plans are underway to develop the back garden into a lovely and usable outdoor space. The rooms are spacious, clean and well designed with (wonderfully cozy) underfloor heating, soundproofing and light blocking blinds. The beds are firm, but comfortable. The bathrooms are huge, with slate floors that heat up beautifully, and excellent water pressure. The room we used (#1) is totally handicapped accessible. The prices for the rooms are great: winter prices of EUR50-EUR55 per night for rooms with private baths, and less for shared baths. There is also an apartment for EUR70-EUR120 that accommodates 2-6 persons and single rooms with shared bath from EUR30 per night as well as a triple room for EUR15 per person per night. Prices go up slightly for the summer. From the entrance, guests enter into a communal space with a small front desk, comfy sofas, kitchen/cooking area, seating/eating area with finally the garden in the back. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen facilities and/or may arrange for a breakfast (but there are plenty of other options, including lots of yummy bakeries nearby). Wifi is free, of course. The hotel is great for independent types. If you require constant attention from the front desk or room service, this place is not for you. If you love feeling like you're living somewhere new, rather than just being a transitory guest, then you will love HPL. We very much look forward to returning to it.

It really does not even compare to the hostel I stayed at in Amsterdam. Cons: -The rooms are so small! We were in each other's space. - the washer and dryer are terrible. We could not even get our clothes dry even after drying them twice in the dryer. So we literally had to hang all our clothes all throughout our whole room. Mind you, our room is so small. So we were left with way less space now that we hung out clothes in every nook of the room. I highly suggest going to a separate laundry institution nearby. - NO AIR CONDITIONER.... The rooms are very hot during the day. - breakfast in the cafe is pricy for the amount of food you get and the food quality you receive. Pros: -Clean bathroom - surprisingly bigger bathroom than you would think when you look at the room itself. - great lounge and common space - live DJ on Fridays

A very positive aspect: You do not need any bedsheets and they are already included in the price. You even don't need to take it off when leaving - many higher priced hostels demand that from you. Maybe they do it because of the brand's policy... Actually Generator is an upper-level priced hostel chain with usually very stylish design. I once met a hostel representative from the headquarters and she said, they are just offering the beds in this hostel so cheap because the building is so old. The building IS really old, she is so right. If you're been to another Generator (like me) and then get to this one, it might be a shock. If not and you paid really few money for the room, you might be astonished what you get for that low price.
