Full transparency, I hadn't been to a dentist for years prior to my cleaning / checkup yesterday. I didn't know what to expect in regards to what they might find, and not to sound like too much of a skeptic, I was worried I may have been told I needed services that I didn't truly need. I'm here to report that not only was the entire experience friendly and informative, but that Dr. Leonard gave me a clean bill of health after reviewing the xrays and CBCT they took. Regarding dentistry, he and his staff are okay. No, it's not good, just ok. However, there is a big problem with billing along with shady billing practices. For example, they bill for two cleaning on the same day. This is outright fraud. read more

I had a regular cleaning with Dr. Tom. He rushed and was impatient. I bled a lot and he didn't place the suction cup at the right place. As a result, I swallowed much blood and it was a terrible experience. After the cleaning, while exhausted, I still thanked Dr. Tom as I understand things could happen. Unfortunately, he started blaming me for not taking care of myself seriously (which is not true). From my perspective, he was just trying to shift the blame even though I was trying to be polite and reasonable. I hope if anyone reads this, you might want to consider other dentists. So, after I wrote this review, one of the fillings I had received from Dr. Tom actually popped off while I was flossing. I have never in my life had this happen. And to the reviewer who questioned why I went here 3 times, I did so because I am super busy working two jobs and didn't have the time or energy to go searching for another dentist at the time. It was just easier to see Dr. Tom to get the fillings over with. However, now I very much regret that decision. Also, as a side note, Dr. Tom and his practice pay to remove negative reviews (Google reviews). I had written one along with a few others that were promptly deleted. Dr. Tom and his staff are AMAZING!! I just recently went there for a cleaning, exam, and x-rays. I am someone who has always had a fear of the dentist and after seeing Dr. Tom I can honestly say my fear is gone. The hygienist is gentle, and very thorough, and very informative, easily one of the best cleanings I have ever had. Dr. Tom came in and did my exam and not only was he friendly but very professional and funny. I highly recommend this office. I promise you won't be disappointed. I can't say much about the dentistry itself but the scheduling staff and system is a mess. Two appointments in a row when I got there at the scheduled time they said the timing was incorrect. I even have the card and voicemail to prove the time and they just said they didn't know what happened. I am hugely disappointed at the operation, as it reflects how unprofessional it is to run a small medical business where they can't even get the schedules right. I am never going back read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Tom's for almost 10 years now and he has been a great dentist. He is always running on schedule so my appointments always start on time. He is always professional, polite and gentle as are all of the hygienists. If you have any worries or fears, just tell them and they will work with you. When I had a cavity I was afraid that I wouldn't be numb enough, so he gave me extra time to numb up and extra novocaine if I wanted/needed it. Also, Dr. Tom has MOVED out of the building near the Fresh Pond Mall. Another reviewer mentioned that the facility needed updating. I can tell you for a fact that it was the landlord that left the building in poor condition and Dr. Tom had to wait out his lease. I'd been putting off going to the dentist for last couple of years for all the usual reasons, but then my youngest needed a dental exam to satisfy school requirements. I hated just picking a random name off our insurance list, so I turned to Yelp. After reading a few reviews and seeing how close Dr. Tom's office was to our house (literally around the block) -- I got up the courage to call. Well, Yelpers, you didn't let me down. From the very first phone call to set up appointments (3 of us at once!), they couldn't be nicer or more helpful! Really took some of the anxiety away. Then when we got there, we were treated like long-lost family. My daughter had never been to the dentist, but their pediatric assistant actually made it fun for her. Even when we found out she had to come back to get a cavity filled, she said she was looking forward to coming back! Dr. Tom was gentle and thorough with both my son and me, and that's saying something given the amount of cleaning i needed. I was expecting to be poked and bleeding, and sore for hours afterward. I was none of those, and my teeth looked so good afterwards I felt as if I'd had a professional whitening job done! It was such a relief to find someone who's made me feel confident about my smile again! Also - when it turned out that I may need a cap in the near future, he offered to submit an estimate to my insurance so I'd know in advance how much they would be paying on it. I love a dentist who remembers that some of us have to balance care with our ability to pay! So as much as I hate sharing him, if you need a dentist in the Belmont area, I simply cannot recommend Dr. Tom highly enough. Friendly, caring and without a doubt fantastic at what he does. Dr. Tom's office was literally 5 minutes from our house, which was why we chose him as our dentist (picked his name from my dental insurance site). A total gamble, I know. But he turned out to be great! He and his staff were very nice, professional, and very laid back. He also had Saturday appointments (not all Saturdays) and a great selection of fashion and shopping magazines in his waiting room to pass the time. Also right next door to the Starbucks and Fresh Pond shopping area (liquor store and Whole Foods)...so that you can get a teeth-staining beverage or sugary snack after you get your teeth cleaned ;). read more

Dr. Tom is wonderful. I first saw him about 8 years ago after I had a bike accident that broke my jaw and several teeth. Dr. Tom was gentle and kind and gave me all of the information I needed to make informed decisions. I appreciated that he didn't go for the most expensive options, but explained what each tooth needed and what the cost/benefit was of each option. He actually advocated for the less expensive, less invasive options, even though I had dental insurance, which really impressed me. He put a bonding over the jagged parts of the teeth that would be worked on later so i wouldn't have to keep cutting my lip and cheek on them, no charge! When I decided I'd rather keep the bonding that go through any more crowns, he said no problem and just billed the insurance for the bonding he had done as a stop-gap. Even though the reconstruction was covered by my insurance, I had asked for a cleaning too, which was not covered because I'd had one somewhere else about 4 months before and I didn't realize it was too soon. When I got the bill however, I was pleased with how reasonable the charges were. I lost my dental coverage about a year ago, but continue to see Dr. Tom because he is so nice and does such good work. He is honest and reasonable and really seems to have my best interest in mind when he looks at my teeth. I was a patient here for just over a year. First and foremost I will admit, I hate the dentist. I'm not difficult, but I do get rather nervous. Therefore, this was not a good match for me. Dr. Tom can be rather abrasive and dealing with hesitant and nervous patients is not best quality. Lenny has been my dentist for over 20 years (before my oldest son was born). I have referred numbers of friends who have all been very happy. I switched to Dr. Tom recently from my dentistry due to his proximity and great reviews on Yelp. It is a small practice, with Saturday hours. All the staff are professional, friendly and easygoing. Dr. Tom and his assistant both did my cleaning together and I have never had a dentist doing their own cleaning before! He was thorough and there was no wait! This is a great dentist's office! The first time I called as a new patient, I had a toothache, and the wonderful woman who makes apptmts managed to squeeze me in to see the doctor on a Saturday! I have been going to him ever since. He is very calm and has a nice soothing voice, which helps me because I am one of those nervous dental patients. He also does a really good cleaning (which a lot of dentists do not). I recommend him highly and wish I had started seeing him years ago. read more
