I've also gotten to enjoy the playground as a kid with my parents and younger cousins and enjoying the view of the pond. I loved spending the day at the pool the other day. The weather was great, and I even got the chance to enjoy the snack bar, even though I got Taki dust in my eye. That hurt. The pool has always been a peaceful place, and I was even asked if I would like to try out for the local swim team a while back because the swim coach just happened to be there on the same day. Going to this park has always been one of the best highlights of Bedford Hills for me.

We love that we can all run around in the grass and not have to worry about stepping in geese poopie. Seriously -- high fives on that one. In short, we love you so, Bedford Park. This was the perfect peaceful place to park ourselves after we'd gotten some pastries and Gelato. I'm not sure if there's another entrance to this park, but the main entrance features a nice sized parking lot, picnic tables, small boat rental area and the dock to the pond. Don't be fooled by the pond- you can't take the plunge as there's no swimming allowed- plus it's filled with lily pads and other plant life. Boat rentals only take place Saturdays and Sundays for a small fee and a Westchester County Park Pass isn't required to enter. For boat rental however, you do get a leg up on savings with your pass. Any other info, check online. We claimed a picnic table to enjoy our pastries and played cards under the teees. This was a nice spot to wind down- just be sure to respect Nature and the area where you are and keep it clean.

It's got this really spooky, abandoned vibe. If someone were filming a post apocalyptic farm scene, or a creepy spooky movie, this would be a good place to do it. We didn't see anyone else while we were there. The mansion looked slightly decrepit, and everything had a shabby, timeworn look. There's a really decent set of trails that wind throughout the property, but they're not blazed very well, or at all really. It's mostly a matter of keeping to the map and wandering around the wide trails. My biggest complaint is the mixed messages on the allowance of dogs. The webpage says that dogs are welcomed, on leash. Once you get there, there are signs that say dogs aren't allowed. It would be nice if the parks department could get their messaging straight on that.

It's not as impressive as say Monticello and not as popular and informative as FDR's house not to far away, but it has its charm. Being hidden away can be an asset, as when you are at the house, it's far up the hill from the road and really quiet, so you can get a good sense of what Mr. Jay would have enjoyed in his retirement. You can feel the peacefulness and why he'd choose to live here after living in Manhattan. The tour is about an hour and there was a farmer's market set up in the adjacent lot, but otherwise there isn't a lot to see/do nearby. Still, it's worth seeing if it's not too far from you or if you have other things in the area to see.
