One of my favorite things about visiting nOLA is the jazz and I almost feel like it's the twilight zone that i can have the live Jazz experience in my home town. Not only that, but everything about our experience, start to finish, was amazing. They enticed us with the live jazz outside..As all of their tables were taken up, our initial strategy was to sit at the bar and hopefully be able to hear the music from inside. Not only did they have a whole band INSIDE the bar playing for those patrons, but we were given the choice of them literally building us a table outside. You can't really go wrong with either choice but due to the absolutely perfect weather outside and my mother's panic phobia about covid, we elected to sit outside. They straight up brought a table and four chairs outside for us to enjoy the band playing outside. The temperate fall air and lively Jazz is an ambiance that is few and far between. We had initially planned on just ordering drinks but were selling what we were buying and dropped a few food menus and had us eating out of their hand. They legit had MOZARELLA FRIED ZUCCHINI B LOSSOMS, some delicious vegetarian ravioli, arancini, and honestly whether you're into steak or farro and kale salad, they can push your.buttons, Both of my parents ordered a spring-roll-like appetizer, one with salmon and one with veggies (extra brownie points for the vegetarian option). My parents some how missed the fact that they were ordering from the appetizer menu and were disappointed in the portion size but absolutely adored the dish. . Even though I talk up and down for about 99% of the time about the fact that I'm "on a diet now" I'm actually full of shit when it comes down to the wire and I absolutely could not resist ordering their fried mozzarella zucchini blossoms which were enveloped in a delicate but delicious outer crust with creamy cheese and zucchini blososms. They were served with an orgasmic tomato sauce with a little touch of pesto. The food was the perfect complement to the musi. They have an interesting cocktail menu as well. I couldn't resist ordering their Frenesi with tequila, lemon juice, cinnamon syrup, apple bitters, hard cider. This was served in a cocktail glass with little floating (what I'm assuming is cinnamon fits that almost looked to be sparkles. It was such a beautiful drink and had such a unique flavor. GF initially ordered the All That Jazz with rye, calvados, Demerara syrup, peychaud's bitters,, ango bitters, and up in smoke however we were informed that they did not have all ingredients to make this drink. She went with her second choice, the Jam Session with bourbon, lemon, stone fruit syrup, peychaud's orange peel, Brandie's cherry. I tried this and as a strong bourbon drink, wasn't my immature palate's favorite but I appreciated the combo of bourbon and fruit flavor. Our server was extremely friendly and went above and beyond to make sure our experience was as excellent as it could possibly be. My Mom was literally obsessed with him and couldn't stop commenting on how well he was taking care of us. Huge shout out to that man right there. They're easy to walk and follow, with some viewpoints. However, due to the many leaves, most views aren't the greatest. Even though that's the case, it's still worth checking out the trail. Many other alternatives exist, including basketball, baseball, tennis, a playground, and the Tea House lodge, which the park recreation can be reached out to for events. I'm thrilled with the options offered. For the community and beyond, this is a beautiful park to visit.

This little park is a Mt Kisco resident location but we were somehow able to sneak in without a problem. There's plenty of benches, picnic tables, a pond with a pretty fountain, basketball courts, baseball fields, walking trails, you have it all! They even have wood available for fire pits. Dogs are welcome on a leash! It's an easy little park to get some nature time and fresh air in. A park for inspiration

Was this your introduction to Woody Guthrie's music? It was mine. Was it Jeff Tweedy's voice you first heard performing classic Guthrie songs? Yep, I first heard the words of Woody Guthrie via Jeff Tweedy's vocals I grew up on alt country which is an amalgam of styles including Americana, country & western, folk, etc. The band Uncle Tupelo was an early performer of alt country and eventually that band split into two factions: Son Volt and Wilco. As you know, Wilco and British folkie Billy Bragg formed an unlikely alliance. They took old songs in which Woody Guthrie wrote the words but never set the music to and recorded them. The resulting album "Mermaid Avenue" became an instant classic and in my opinion is one of the top-5 greatest CDs ever recorded. That, as I mentioned above, was my introduction to Woody Guthrie. He was born Woodrow Wilson Guthrie in Okemah, OK in 1912. His father taught him Western songs, Indian songs, and Scottish folk songs. Guthrie was always a keen observer of life around him and his wry sense of humor surfaces in his music. Okemah, OK was an oil boom town. When the oil stopped flowing, it's residents were left "busted, disgusted, and not to be trusted." The Guthrie family experienced severe financial ruin and Guthrie took to the open road. Guthrie's experiences were similar to the Joad family's in the book "Grapes of Wrath". Listening to his music of the era, you can hear the similarities. Guthrie eventually landed a job in Los Angeles on radio station KFVD radio. He'd sing traditional songs as well as original material. This attracted the attention of the Okies who were living in migrant camps and picking fruit for pennies a day. It was during the Great Depression that perhaps Guthrie wrote his best material and "Dust Bowl Ballads" remains a classic. The Woody Guthrie Foundation exists to preserve his legacy through the archiving of his recordings, photos, writings, letters, and artifacts. Preservation of Woody Guthrie's legacy helps to broaden our cultural identity as Americans. The Woody Guthrie Foundation's purpose is not only to preserve his musical legacy but also to promote Woody Guthrie's ideals and the social, political, and cultural values that he sang and wrote about in his songs and writings. Guthrie was an adamant supporter of of the poor and common man. He supported union organizers that were fighting for the rights of migrant workers in California's agricultural communities. The proponents of the current anti-labor movement would do well to remember the words of his song "I Guess I Planted": "Union song, union battle/All added up/Won us all we got now." Guthrie's legacy lives on. Think about it! Without Woody Guthrie, no Bob Dylan. Without Woody Guthrie, no Bruce Springsteen. Not only has Wilco covered his material, so too has their predecessor band Uncle Tupelo. As for Son Volt, the other group that emerged from Uncle Tupelo, they have covered Guthrie songs too as well as naming one of their CDs "Okemah and the Melody of Riot". The Guthrie classic "This Land is Your Land", which like Springsteen's "Born in the USA" is grotesquely misinterpreted, was recently performed at pro-labor demonstrations in Madison, WI. Woody Guthrie's music remains as vital as ever. Preserve a part of our musical heritage and support the Foundation.

This tour was definitely a highlight of our trip! Captain John and Charlie were great and all the passengers aboard had a great time! We passed three lighthouses-Peck Ledge LH, Sheffield Island LH and Green's Ledge LH. Charlie, co-captain of Captain John, had just toured the inside of Green's Ledge LH the day before which is listed on Airbnb for $6,000! He went around the ship showing everyone the floor plan. It especially exciting to be on the Long Island Sound and to see the red and white towers from Northport, since I live on Long Island!! We were able to see several different viewpoints of the sunset and osprey nests as well. Definitely recommend to residents of Norwalk AND tourists alike!

Actually I've…read morebeen to a few clinkers which says that I'm apparently I'm also a sucker for a bad lighthouse as well but there's no need to worry about that at Sheffield because it's all good here. So if you want to come you've got two legal options. 1. Show up via kayak (or I suppose boat then taking a short swim) during hours when they are running tours and you will be met on the shore by a volunteer who will ask you to pay a few dollars for the privilege of taking the lighthouse tour/hanging out on the island. 2. Or, you come via the regularly scheduled boat that runs from the dock on North Water Street in Norwalk from late May until the end of September. There are various public & private decks for parking all around the area so it shouldn't be too hard to find a close space. I don't remember what the price is for option #1 but for option #2 the below currently apply: Adults: $22.00 - Children 12 & Under: $12.00 Senior / NSA Member $20.00 Active Military with ID $10.00 Children 3 & Under: $5.00 Family 4 Pack (2 Adults, 2 Children) $55.00 A few random facts: Boats depart weekends only every year over Memorial Day weekend and eventually go daily from July until Labor Day and then back to weekends only until the end of September. Check seaport.org for the current schedule and for special events such as their clambakes. Once you get to the island you get to take a brief tour of the lighthouse which was built in 1868 (downstairs only for now as the upstairs tower portion is being worked on and hopefully tours will be allowed there in the not to distant future once they get the stairs in better shape along with figuring out a way to dissipate the heat which we were told was well over 100 degrees the day we were there in August) and you can also walk through the nature trail via the Stewart B. McKinney Wildlife Refuge. If you are going to walk on the nature trail or along the beach that fronts Sheffield Island Harbor just know that things are "wild" and that you will get eaten alive by flies, mosquitoes and I wouldn't be shocked if the trees had lots of ticks. The lighthouse was relit in 2011 for the first time in 91 years. Why Sheffield Island? The island was named after Revolutionary War veteran Captain Robert Sheffield who bought the island in 1804. He married Temperance Doty, a Mayflower descendant and such started the current lineage of the island's name. The 47 acre island is private property that is primarily owned by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with the Norwalk Seaport Association depending upon the website owning only three or four of those acres. You will be reminded a few times of where you can and cannot walk. Speaking of an area you can't walk by it would be the dilapidated house on the right near the dock. That house is still owned by the Stabell family who sold the island to the Norwalk Seaport Association in 1986 for 700K. I forget the exact story we were told but it's something along the lines of the "home" (more of a dilapidated shack) cannot be renovated because of Fish and Wildlife Service rules and if they raze the structure they lose the land so the shack stands as is. The island itself is around a mile and half from the dock in Norwalk and the boat is kept at a country club pace in both directions which equals about 40 minutes to make the trip in each direction. This is fine as one of the crew did a fairly good job or telling everyone about some of the various islands & lighthouses & birds in the area and about the local shellfish industry. Past that it's just sit back and relax on some of their picnic benches and have a picnic or don't do a damn thing except the enjoy the beautiful view. Either way it's awesome.

In addition to some great private lessons, their Group Classes are always valuable and fun, and the weekly parties, which are very well attended, are a highlight of the week - a chance to unwind, practice in a party setting and spend time with a great dance family of teachers and students.
