On my way into the appointment, I received a text message that my ANNUAL PHYSICAL would be move to a TELEHEALTH appointment. How a doctor can give you a physical over the telephone without checking your heart, blood pressure, weight etc. is beyond me. When I called for more information about my appointment, as I was not aware if I was to receive a call or a video link and it was to start at 8am - I received attitude over the phone about the doctor "having an hour to call me." I explained that I did NOT originally schedule a telehealth visit so I was confused to the process. I was told that I would get a call from an "Unknown Number" within the hour to administer my physical. (???) I then received a phone call an hour later that was the "pre-screen/intake" call asking about my insurance information. I asked them if I would be charged to my insurance as an annual physical because this is just going to be a telephone call, they said "Yes, as the doctor can just order your tests and you can come in on your own time." I was told again I'd have the doctor call me imminently. Fast forward TWO hours when I call THEM to figure out what was going on. As my appointment was now scheduled three hours in the past and I didn't have anyone call me. From there I was told there are "notes in for the Dr. to call," and they "may need to reschedule." The next appointment is in April. When I said it's not acceptable for me to have my annual physical 7 months late and that I have been more than accommodating as I was physically ON MY WAY TO THE OFFICE in the morning and now I can't get a phone call back. From there I was told that a nurse "could" call me this afternoon to approve the necessary tests associated for a physical. I am STILL awaiting a call. HOW IS THIS THE STATE OF HEALTHCARE IN CHICAGO AND NORTHWESTERN IN 2023? It's unprofessional, rude and unacceptable. No one at that office would dare accept this as their standard of health care and it's poor service all around. UPDATE HERE: It's a day after and I've received NO CALL from a doctor - they essentially canceled my appointment and never got back to me ... but DID make sure to send me a "visit summary." WHAT VISIT?! I reached out to my insurance re: this fraud. Unbelievable. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

This all changed today and I want to warn others, not because I think there's a problem with the medical review, but office operations and policy for the office are in a word concerning. When making an appointment, I received a text from the office asking me to "text a screenshot of my medical card" so they could verify coverage. This was extremely disconcerting in an age of identity theft and personal information security breach. Despite this, I complied with the request and informed the office assistant that I would review my concerns with the doctor because this was highly irregular. The office assistant informed me "I truly don't I can do much with just your insurance card. I would need all your medical information." What I was trying to point out wasn't that she would personally do anything with my information, but that the possibility of a patient's information residing on someone's personal smartphone wasn't probably the best policy. I again emphasized that if that information would be lost, the doctor would be liable. Two minutes later, this was followed up by another text, "I will delete the image now that it's in your chart" and that the alternative for sending a screenshot was to drive to the doctor's office prior to my visit as they were trying to save me from an advanced trip. Funny, when I had changed my insurance in the past this was never an issue. I didn't respond to this text and again, complied with the request without further issue. One hour later, I receive a text "after conferring with the office and completing a full cost-benefit analysis - it was decided that perhaps you should find another practice that suits your needs better than Associated Medicine Physicians. We took the liberty of canceling your visit. Be well." I wanted to post this here because it's important for both customer and doctors to understand how serious securing personal information is in today's world. Most data breaches happen not because the original intent of the information by the initial parties was to do something detrimental. Rather, data breaches happen often because those handling it either aren't completely clear about the limits and extent to which the technology their using (assumed deletion) can be used against them by bad actors, or, most common, unintentional transfer of information usually done unknowingly. Regardless It's important to call this out because no one wants to turn on the news or read online they were unintentionally a victim of a data breach. Dr. Levy is a good doctor. However, I'd think twice before sending my personal data via text to an office assistant if I were still a patient with the practice.

They don't even know which insurance plans they accept--every one of our claims was incorrectly filed as out-of-network when they were actually in-network. Fixing this has been a major hassle, and despite multiple messages asking for the billing manager to call us back, no one has returned our calls. Instead, we were told that the doctor's wife handles billing, but no one knows when she comes in. We are now receiving final bill notices, yet the office has locked us out of the patient portal due to non-payment, making it impossible to access our records or communicate through that system. When my wife asked how she could reach her doctor or someone who could help, she was told to use the portal--the very one we had been locked out of. All we are trying to do is get them to resubmit these claims correctly as in-network so we can pay the bill and move on. That's it. And yet, we're met with roadblock after roadblock. To top it off, they advertise themselves as a concierge practice, which is laughable. Concierge medicine is supposed to provide premium care, personalized attention, and easy access to the physician and staff. Here, they don't even answer the phone over lunch. Why not stagger lunch breaks like any other service-oriented business instead of shutting down entirely? The final straw was when my wife--who is battling stage 4 cancer--called for the third time to resolve this, only to be scolded for trying to fix a 2024 billing issue in 2025. Unfortunately, we had more pressing matters last year. We're done. As soon as this gets resolved, we'll be finding a new doctor. If you're considering this practice, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
