Meh..... this is the institutionalized medicine of the future. Even in the elite north shore,…read moreprimary care physicians have been relegated to glorified car mechanics. Insurance industry and corporate profit margins marginalize these doctors when they should be viewed as the ones who are of greatest importance. If North Shore were to view them as a lost leader and cut their patient load in half so that these doctors could spend more time learning their patients instead of having to rely upon their notes it would be great. If these doctors where required to constantly take continuing education courses to learn about the newest research instead of relying upon drug company propaganda it would be great. If these doctors were required to put on health education seminars for their patient base it would be great. If they were given some empowerment from their institution to tell big insurance companies, when in their medical opinion, insurance is WRONG. North shore has the power and resources to fight back against insurance companies trying to back seat drive for our doctors. NorthShore has the knowledge that it is PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANS who are burdened with having to know the widest range of materials and being generalists. NorthShore also has the knowledge that it is PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANS who can do the most good.

I had an appointment scheduled for 3 MONTHS. MONTHS. Not days. I've had such a hard time trying to…read moreschedule my appointments so I just scheduled in person at my last appointment. My apparently was today 2-2-26 at 2pm. Apparently they open at 9 am and I get a call at 10:30 saying there is no doctor there that day (yet when I scheduled that day there was in fact a doctor going to be there) so you are telling me you don't know that your doctor isn't going to be there until the day of? Seems pretty lacking in organization to me. And quite ridiculous that they didn't replace the doctor and expect me to change my appointment time that I've had for MONTHS. I will not be going back to this establishment. I will find a new doctor if I have too. That is actually ridiculous that I'm called 4 hours before my appointment saying I need to reschedule day of or come in early because they can't do their jobs. If your doctors call off a day that is your job to call all clients that day BEFORE THE DAY OF?!?! To tell them they are off. And ask to reschedule. The day they take off would be a nice start to call the people who have done their part to make an appointment.

Alright, so I cheated on my original Dr...Dr. Mizuno, whom I adore but when he was out of town one…read moretime, I had a medical issue and as is the case with Northwestern Memorial Physicans Group, their practice partners will see you STAT and at least know your medical history. I suffered from chronic sinus infections that were just crazy. I went to Dr. Miller expecting the usual script and and a co-pay but what a pleasant surprise I got. He was so thorough and detail oriented that he asked questions that seemed out of sync with the routine I had experienced elsewhere. He asked about my lifestyle, my pillows, my diet, well you get it....and he LISTENED. I actually now understand why doctor's corporations are called SC for "service corporations". He was providing his Medical Services. He wasn't doing me a favor by seeing me. I was giving him an opportunity to practice medicine. Lightbulb, aaahhhhh moment. Did I mention he went to Harvard Medical School. Matters not unless they teach you human compassion there. Not only did he cure that malady, he cured me of pretty much everything and during the course of a general conversation, he discovered a something that several other doctors had dismissed or negelected. Under his care and direction, I have been treated as a person, not a number and put on a path to wellness. He had given me guidance and referals that have changed my life. When I had a rough patch health wise, he was my go to guy and Dr. Miller got me through a series of unrelated, untimely and unfortunate health issues. We've since kind of broken up because he made me all better, so much so that I don't really need to see him much anymore. Not that I mind. But you know what I mean. I have refered countless people to him and each and every one raves. He moved from the city to Northbrook which is a hike, but his demeanor, candor and knowledge are worth every second on the Edens. He is kind, gentle, caring and concerned. Dr. Miller is the first physician I have encountered that practices the art of healing. How refreshing. On their website it says under his philosphy "Dr. Miller believes in a strong patient-doctor relationship and working with patients to optimize their health care" Understatement of the year. And lets not forget the support staff, Janie, his nurse. Can you say loveable and sweet. And efficient and kind. And accommodating and warm. Yep, worth every second on the Edens and then some!

Dr. Miller was great--he took a ton of time with me at my annual physical checkup and had a quite…read morelovely, unthreatening bedside manner. He seems to be great with follow-up too--I took a chance and sent him an email through Northwestern's online dr/patient communication network, not really expecting a same-day response, but apparently these physicians really do use the online communication system (hooray! internet and no phone-holding!), he wrote back in a few hours. AND he gave me an electronic prescription I sent to the pharmacy without ever picking up the phone. Anyway, technology aside, an excellent PCP.
