Good first experience selling a selection of unrelated antiques, jewelry art and coins. Felt like I had started a relationship to trust but thinking not. Would recommend. Worked for what I needed at the time. Onwards. read more

I've wanted to bid on multiple auctions they have had through the liveauctioneer app until I see how much they gouge you for shipping. Don't even bother getting a quote from them anymore and I just excluded them from searches. One quote $276 for a painting. $76 to ups and $200 for packaging and handling. 55 comic books is $26 to shipping and $28 to packaging and handling. In no reality should a box and bubble wrap cost more then the shipping cost read more

I have been buying from Leonard Auction for about 9 months now, and I have to say they have been very good to me. Leonard lots are always very interesting. The jewelry and art items are my favorite. I have purchased some real gems from Leonard. There is something for everyone. I don't have a single negative thing to say about this auction company, only good. Susan is amazing. She gets things done quickly and has always been a pleasure to talk with. read more

Caveat Emptor ./:Buyer Beware. this auction house is absolutely terrible and you can never trust them. i am a VIP member of Invaluable and they have intentionally blocked me and others from auctions saying we have poor buying records when they are impeccable. purchased another from them and never received it. i would never trust this auction house again and trust me. go somewhere else. very rude owner as well. look at all the other reviews. read more

Victoria came over to my house and looked and some jewelry and flatware I had laying around. Auction was the best choice for my pieces. Thank you Leonard Auction! read more

I worked with Victoria and I was thrilled with her work ethic and professionalism. She directed her staff efficiently and expediently. She kept our schedule utmost in her priorities and ensured we were checked every time there was an item to be transported. The care and respect she gave our items was very endearing and showed she cared about not only what we had but what stories they held. She was extremely knowledgeable about the current market and was actively educating us on our options. We recommend anyone who needs this company to ask for Victoria, she will do an awesome job and you'll be impressed with her and how well she takes care of you, your stuff and her staff, just like we were. read more

Over the past year, I have brought several items to Victoria West, Director of Sales at Leonard Auction, Inc.. Victoria was a pleasure to work with, and her knowledge of appraising fine glassware and antiques is second to none. I was also impressed when I received my checks within 2 weeks of the auctions. I would recommend that anyone who is thinking of selling or purchasing items, make an appointment with Victoria. It will be worth your time. read more

I would highly recommend this Addison, IL Auction House for selling one's furnishings and other items of choice. John and Victoria are truly professionals and the company is as well. read more

I was first to place bids on two items a few hours before the start of the auction. I couldn't "attend" the on-line, live auction, so I made two absentee $100 maximum bids on the items. When I checked later, I found that my bids did not win; rather, the items were sold to someone else for $100 each?! Apparently, no one bid higher than me, and I was first to bid, so why didn't I win? I will never deal with this on-line auction house again! read more

We sold items with this company and were happy with the sale but dealing with Victoria was painful. When you pay 40% commission to sell your items you expect to be able to contact your contact person. In our case this was Victoria. For the items that made it to auction we could not originally get hold of her to discuss. It turned out that she was texting our land line. We did get that sorted out, happily, and the sale went well. That was kind of funny. What was frustrating was trying to get hold of her to schedule bringing in more items for auction and to pick up the one lot that did not sell. My texts went unanswered and there was no one else to help me. Took 3 weeks before we finally connected and she told me to tell Sue to let my husband stop by to pick up the lot. Victoria is a nice person when you talk to her but she's hard to pin down. To me customer service is key to a successful business. I just felt it was lacking a bit here so I gave them a C+. I feel that this is a fair review from what I experienced. Your experience may be better than mine. read more

I'm incredibly disappointed with this business. I brought my family heirlooms to be evaluated and I feel like I was rushed through the process. I was given vague ranges of what they might be worth, although they seemed to talk up how much they 'possibly' could be worth. They made me feel like they had my best interests in mind and I trusted them. Their commission is high at 30% in the contract but after hearing how much they though they could bring in and how they were "so connected" to many online auctions I didn't really think it was an issue. I just received my check and I ended up paying 40% in commission. I believe some of my items were auctioned well under what they were worth. I had 2 paintings that sold for only $125 and since their minimum commission is $100 per piece I netted $25. I would have rather given them to Goodwill and have had someone find a "treasure". If you just want to "dump" your treasures somewhere and don't care what you end up getting then this is your place. Otherwise, seek out another place who really cares as much about your belongings as you do. read more

After many years of collecting antiques this was my first opportunity to attend a live auction and I had so much fun. First of all everyone on staff was very nice and professional. Second, they make you feel comfortable by offering refreshments and snacks and have very clean facilities. Third, they are reasonable with the buyers premiums. They also helped me get things to my car (I have a broken arm). If you have the time to spare there are some great deals with some lots selling for as little as $5.00. Even some nice furniture sold for less than $20.00. This is a very well run business and a lot of fun for someone like me. Just an FYI it takes about 1 hour to go through 100 lots so if you are only coming to bid on 1 item you may not have to get there at the start. read more

Went to my first auction here yesterday and all I can say is what a blast!!!! This place is top notch all around. From the moment I walked in and picked up my number I knew I was going to have a great time! Susan was super friendly and helpful explaining to me that I will see her or Katie to check out and that if I bought bigger items I had a week to pick them up. I also met another gentleman that gave me a little more insight on a couple of the furniture pieces I was interested in. I was soooooooo happy I ended up winning a Berkey and Gay dresser that I had my eye on!!!! I was shocked when they said they would help me get it into my truck. All other auctions I have been to you move your own items. I cannot say it enough.... this place is FANTASTIC!!!! Can't wait to see you all next month!!!!! read more

Leonard Auction charged a 21% online buyer's premium but did not provide service to the online buyer after the sale. On the back end, Leonard Auction attempted to charge more than double the actual shipping cost to ship the item, would not pack the item, and would not accept a shipping label from our business. What are you charging 21% for if you won't support the customer after your sale? When I corresponded with them, they played dumb like they didn't recognize they were trying to gouge me. In short, I would avoid them if you are an online bidder. Leonard Auction is clearly greedy and without ethics. ---- John Leonard has responded to my review with lies. The weight of the package was quoted at 17 lbs and is not an oversized package. That is NOT "heavy." The dimensions estimate out total at 14 x 12 x 10 box with appropriate padding, so it was not oversized. I ship all day long and I know what appropriate shipping costs are. They tried to charge $50+ in shipping. Our FedEx rate quote was $18.50. I was happy to pay a reasonable shipping charge, but Leonard Auction wanted to gouge us. Rather than fix the problem by charging reasonable shipping charges, they acted like my request was confusing. Further, the Proxibid fee is not the 21% fee that Leonard Auction charged on this auction referenced below. Proxibid charges 2% fee to the auction seller, so 19% is additional fees being charged by Leonard Auction for dealing with the online buyer that they pocket. Unfortunately, Leonard Auction wants all that money without actually providing appropriate service to the online buyer. I was not rude to his staff. It was more the other way around. I politely asked if there was a way we could resolve this without me being overcharged for shipping and they had no option. My only option was to pay them the $57 in buyer's premium and pay them $50 in shipping, pay the $57 in buyer's premium and pay a shipping company to pick it up, pack it and ship it, or cancel my order. I offered that they could charge a more reasonable and accurate shipping charge and they refused. I asked why they are charging the buyer's premium if they aren't willing to support an online buyer appropriately and she an inadequate response. I asked what would happen if we just canceled the order, and they agreed that was best. Susan, the woman I spoke with, acted like what I was requesting was confusing. I would think shipping should be a pretty normal thing for an auction house, yet she repeatedly interrupted me and raised her voice, and I advised I did not want to argue with her. If we couldn't reach a resolution together, then we could just choose not to work with each other. She agreed and said she was unwilling to charge a reasonable shipping charge, so we cancelled the order. John Leonard has also left a retaliatory review on our business, rather than trying to resolve the issue directly and fairly, which further shows this company's ethics are below average. Rather than respond to this review by contacting me to work it out, he decides to fight back with lies. read more

We had a family member pass away suddenly in the Chicago area. She had lived in her home for 60 years and had accumulated lots of nice things. We live out of town and had a very limited time frame to remove the items from her home. I searched online for auction companies in the area and ran across this company. I called and spoke with Sue who was very helpful and explained how the process would go if we had things that could be auctioned. John rearranged his schedule to meet with us when we were in town and was quickly able to identify the items in the home that would be worth selling (I was actually very impressed with his knowledge of antiques, art, glassware, etc.). He had a team come over quickly and collect and pack everything for auction. He was very professional and was in constant communication with us during the entire process. We were very surprised by the sum that the items fetched at auction, and we received payment promptly. The commission rate was also very fair and John did his best to keep it as low as possible. I would highly recommend this company to anyone who is dealing with a similar situation and doesn't know what to do. They really came to our rescue during a very bad time. read more

Leonard Auction exceeded our expectations! Easy to deal with and netted fast results for items we auctioned. I would highly recommend them.

Wow, these folks have an attitude. The attitude is they know everything and you know nothing! If you want to share garage sale prices, pay to move your stuff to their location, get unfriendly service, and wait months for money; this may be your place. Otherwise find a legitimate organization to help you. read more

So happy that we stumbled upon this auction house! We are in the process of a major downsizing and preparation for a move to the coast and they have been great in helping us get rid of many of our things. After interviewing several companies to handle a family estate liquidation John was selected to handle an estate sale followed by auction of the remaining items. John enjoys his work and is good at it. I recommend him without reservation. read more

This was my first experience consigning to an auction house and it was excellent. When we arrived, we were greeted by a woman (I think Ann). She was very friendly, knowledgeable, and explained the entire process in detail. I've been going to auctions for 15 years and Leonard Auction house really seems to know their stuff. My items also sold much above the auction estimate so I was very pleased. Hopefully I will be able to attend one of their live auctions soon. I would strongly recommend using this company for consigning your items at auction. read more

in order to bid on one of their items, as a first time bidder, you have to provide a letter of referral or copy of an invoice of a previous purchase on liveAuctioneers or your bid is declined. this is not sotheby's. more importantly, if this is their policy then they should post it up front, my bid was accepted then the next day i received a notice that it was declined. i will find an auction gallery to buy from without such pretensions. read more
