One star because the wait time was non existent. Unfortunately for me so was decorum and class. This doctor is a VERY condescending person with an awful bedside manner. He's prideful and honestly, seemed more into making snide comments than aiding me with my issues. He prescribed me a very strong prescription that often dries and ages my skin when used as directed. Yes, I've seen minor improvement, but I would expect the issue to be cleared by now given the strength of the prescription, but the issue persists! I was also very uncomfortable when prompted to show him my back area. I am still surprised that the request did not warrant a female employee to be present. I had on a turtle neck and pencil skirt, and it was awkward having an elderly man mess with my clothes. I felt dirty afterwards. Nevertheless, if you would like to be seen by a miserable person with a subpar skill set, Dr. Brown is the doctor for you. He's sadly an example than all skin folk ain't kinfolk (pun intended). read more

I drive all the way from Upstate NY to see this dermatologist -- with good reason, He is the best that money can't buy he cares for his patients -- and he is well worth the wait. This is not a fast food restaurant, so for those who take offense to waiting but want quick poor care at their expense, this is not the place for you. I on the other hand appreciate his thoroughness, patience and expertise over the years. I get compliments all the time from people who look at me and can't tell my age. I highly recommend this doctor, especially for people of color who typically can't get quality care. Ignore any front desk issues, it's the doctor you're paying for that counts. Worst guy in world I don't have enough time to say but he boujee he from Howard University niw let me say this we was Kool until I came in with my skull cap on because my hair was falling out so he thought it was a Muslim cap and right there he turned on me he started talking nasty too me he overcharged me he lost all my records he made me pay all over like a new patient and that went from 100 to 175 dollars and he gonna tell me to take my head cover off after I put it back on once he finished checking my scalp and he gonna say etiquette Mr Harris etiquettes and I kept my headcover on and then when I was leaving he gonna say God bless u ir God loves you one of them I can't remember but I think it was God loves you as to saying there is only one God there is no other because he thought I was Muslim and all he had to do was ask I am a Christian but he assumed see u make a ass out of urself when u assume but now I'm not either I'm spiritual now because religions get u in a whole lot if trouble spiritual don't but this man needs to be taken to court hiw he treated me a very nasty man oh and I had to call them and tell them I was gonna call the police because he wasn't calling my medicine in and he told that receptionist lady to be nasty to me also but when I told her I was gonna call the police because of how they was treating me they called my medicine in man I'm trying to tell yalk this was a mess don't go to this man and u better be a Christian if u do go because if u any other religion u in trouble don't show it because he will treat u wrong I don't like this man and I hope and pray they see this read more

Came here for the first time about a week ago to rectify some blemishes on my face. There is ample parking but you do have to pay to park. I think I paid 5 dollars for two hours...eh. My wait was the most annoying point, about 90 minutes...It was my first visit so maybeeee it's not always like this. (I will provide an update report on service as well as how the product worked in 3 months when I go back). Dr. Brown seems very thorough. It was nice that he looked at my skin in all areas (feet, elbows, back, etc), looked at the way my scars healed...noticed that I got a keloid removed on the back of my ear...pretty darn good! He is personable and kind. The lady at the front could be nicer, just saying. Didn't feel very welcome being a first timer...or just in general. He recommended this place that delivers the medication which was convenient... Lets see how this goes! read more

I must say, while this office has always had a reputation for poor customer service with regards to his administrative staff and the wait times to be seen, yesterday my experience was very pleasant. Due to the weather and traffic yesterday I myself was running 20-30 minutes late for my morning appointment. I called in apologizing and offered to reschedule however I was advised to still come on in as he had a "light schedule". I just knew I'd spend my entire morning in his office however I checked in 30 minutes late and was seen about 30-40 minutes later. I'm sure this is a rarity but I appreciate the opportunity and despite my lateness, he did not rush the appointment and remained as thorough as he's always been. Hopefully this is a new tone being set in his office operations and will continue. read more

I have known Dr. Brown for years. He spends time with you answering questions and providing education. As with all medical specialties, diagnosis and treatment can be complex. I respect that Dr. Brown does not give up but keeps trying to solve your problems. He also expects you to do you part so it is a win-win. read more

Dr. Brown is a very knowledgeable dermatologist with a delightful personality. He removed a lipoma (fatty tumor) from my lip. He compared my lip with Angelina Jolie (LOL). It was a benign tumor and the stitches are dissolving and do not show at all. My *lip* is just fine now!! The office staff are pleasant, and an amusing movie is usually playing in the waiting room. read more

Made an appointment 1 month in advance. 2 days before my appt I received a text saying my appt has been cancelled because the doctor would not be in and I should call and reschedule. I called immediately and the lady I spoke with said the text was a mistake she was trying to send a reminder for my apt. She took my name and checked my apt to confirm it and gave me the wrong time. I corrected her and she apologized saying I had been entered twice. The following day, 1 day before my appointment I get a call from a different lady saying the doctor would not be in early and she is rescheduling me to later on in the day. I told her that will not work as I have to take leave from my job to go to the appointment. She didn't even bother to apologize for the inconvenience. My kids have suffered from raging eczema since their infancy and he has been the ONLY dermatologist to treat it properly. Other doctors use all sorts of steroids that weren't as effective and that also blackened the skin once the eczema eventually calmed down. Dr. Brown puts together compounds that treat the angriest, itchiest eczema (my son used to scratch until he bled) AND also fades away any darkness and discoloration from the irritation and scratching. I was very unhappy and discouraged with the care my kids received from other pediatricians and dermatologists so I made a specific effort to find a black Dr who understood the needs of our skin. That being said, the office efficiencies is what keeps him from the 5-star rating, but I know that once before him, I will get the right treatment. read more

Called to make appointment for my daughter the receptionist was telling me about how there is no special pricing and or discounts. I felt insulted I didn't call to get discounts, I see my hebalist my internal medicine doctor and dentist all as a cash patient which most of them love. Because I have a more natural approach to our health insurance isn't, in my opinion beneficial. Working for myself I love not having to deal with insurance companies. I tried convey what I needed and then thought if this practice can't get past me not having insurance the I'm better off going somewhere else. I always thought my money was good but obviously not here they only like insured clients. By the way most practices in Takoma park will work with your more holistic lifestyle and won't shun a cash on the spot paying customer. She may be a wonderful Dr.but I could get past the initial bias unprofessional conversation I had with the receptionist. But I know that " the appointment charge is $120 without any test and there are no specials or disounts given so it's hard for the dr. to treat cash customers." My ND charges $200 dollar initially........not a big deal???? I hope someone reads this and they take a different approach to potential new clients. Worst front desk staff I have ever seen. They never return your phone calls. They also don't understand how to use the right billing codes for your insurance. They are still sending me bills from last year that I already paid for. I shouldn't have to call you multiple times to get my billing right. Oh and don't get me started I the over an hour wait time. read more

I have been seeing a dermatologist for year 20 years. Recently I decided to switch because of distance/inconvenience. I tried two different Dermatologist who just couldn't get it right, but then I found Dr. Leon Brown. He was thorough in his examination and provided the necessary medicines that cleared-up my issues within days. The office staff is friendly and Dr. Brown is easy to talk to. He is the first doctor that I've visited who actually creates prescriptions for your hair and skin just for you. He seems very knowledgeable and takes his time to cater to each individual patient. We had a frustrating experience with Dr. Brown. First, we waited nearly 2 hours to be seen. My sons had a very common viral skin rash. We now know that there really isn't a treatment for it, and that it goes away with time. Really the only thing that can or should be prescribed is a steroid to help with irritation and itching but only for a limited time. Dr. Brown prescribed an ointment that is very expensive and created a terrible rash/reaction which actually had to be treated by another dermatologist. We were told that the ointment he prescribed is one that has never - to their knowledge - been used to treat this condition. The new dermatologist had to also prescribe an ointment to help heal the broken and irritated skin that was caused by Dr. Brown's prescription. I knew to be skeptical when Dr. Brown himself recommended that we visit a pediatric dermatologist as follow-up. I just wish he had told us at our visit that he was not certain of the treatment and we never would have done it! I am not going back. read more

I was told my app was at 11:45am and also I'm a new patient. It took me 5 mins to fill out my information. I asked the receptionist how long the wait was, she said 30 mins. Why would you tell me 11:45 if the wait was 30 mins????!!!!. It wasn't 30 mins....I waited for over an hour to be seen. My first and my last. This is just ridiculous!!!
