I've dealt with KP and bacne since I became a teenager into adulthood. I finally gave in and went to my primary to ask if anything could be done about it. They referred me to Dr. Gaston's office as I don't have insurance. Wait time was fine I forgot what time i had to go in, but they managed to work with me. So staff was fantastic in that. Once I was in he knew exactly what was wrong and how I needed to deal with it. Although the place is older looking it doesn't hurt to look at those 20th century scales as I did and imagine how many patients have weighed in on those! How many lives lived.. I've never met a doctor so friendly and smiley and one that genuinely has made me laugh. Also an example of a doctor that reinforces why I want to practice medicine one day, to help those around me that don't have much but are in need of care. Dr Gaskin is an old school "do what is correct for the patient " doctor . Prior to going to him I looked at blue cross directory and 99% belong to gigantic groups that are like assembly lines . I went there and they took five seconds to look at my son and say okay take accutane. It was like a time share sale We took a more basic topical ointment and cleared up pretty well . We did a follow up with doctor gaskin instead and he totally agreed . He only pushes accutane for extreme cases He showed my kid how to use correctly and helped alot . Great guy !!!! read more

Dr. Gaston is the best dermatologist in Maryland. I had my eyebrows arched at one of the very unclean Asian nail shops. My eyes blew up like a balloon, I broke out in a rash, my face looked horrible. I was due to travel to Texas in five days. However, as usual, Dr. Gaston looked at my face, assured me that my face would be fine. He prescribed a cream that cleared my face up in 3 days. Dr. G explained to me that it was more than likely a reaction due to insensitivity to the unclean wax that the shop used and the possible reaction to an ingredient that is in the wax. He cautioned me to never get my eyebrows arched with wax again. Needless to say my face was fantastic and I was able to travel. I would give him five stars but his staff is very unprofessional, rude and lacks compassion. I was hoping at some point he would listen to his patients. I went to see Dr. Gaston at the Silver Spring office and I felt good walking in as there was only 2 other people waiting to see him. This led me to believe that I wouldn't have a long wait and the doc would take his time with me. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (deep evil laugh). I was wrong. What the office does is schedules everyone at the same time, so after sitting for about 20 min. about 8 other patients came trickling in for the same 1:30 appointment time. The doc spent approximately 5-7 min. with me, he tried to leave after 5 min. but I was able to squeeze the other 2 min. because I was trying to get my questions answered about my problem skin. He didn't really look at my skin either or me for that matter. When I asked a specific question about my skin issue I was met with a response of "I don't know" . WTF you mean you don't know???? If you say "I'm not sure, it could be blah, blah, blah" or "I don't know, lets take some tests". But to tell me "I don't know" and not have anything else to say but look down and continue writing Rx, is not acceptable. I will update this once I begin to use the rx he wrote for me and see how it works. read more

Dr.Larry is really cool and chill. He would explain everything for you and make sure you understand. The only reason it's a three star is because if the receptionist. Just terrible. If you call them and they ask you to hold you would be on hold for atleast almost a hour. If you ask the receptionist a simple question they would say "I don't know" and when I want to speak to Dr.Larry real quick they tell me to hold once again. Please do not go to this practice!!! If I could give it zero stars, I would. I had been going to this practice for years and I've always had so-so experiences. But this last time was the last straw for me. I went in for an appt after being cleared by OB to finally start using acne medications again. Met with Dr. Gaston and explained that after being off medication for almost a year my face has gotten to its worse point. His solution: give me stronger, harsher medications for my sensitive skin. My pharmacy got the prescriptions and informed me I would need a prior authorization. When I informed the office, it started with they hadn't received it. To them promising to get it done, to them telling me- without any attempt of doing the prior authorization- that my insurance would not cover the medication. Then I was told that prior authorizations would only be competed on Thursday's by the office manager. Then I was told my prescription would have to go to Loudoun Pharmacy, which I have never used. One month went by and still no prescription. I got up one Thursday and decided I would not let the day end without getting the authorization complete. I called from the time they opened only to be put on hold for 20-30 min and then flat out hung up on. I then had to put my infant in the car and drive 40 minutes to confront the front desk staff who repeatedly hung up the phone on me. When I Arrived they were eating lunch and proceeded to tell me that they were closed. Unfortunately for them I had had enough and I was NOT leaving. The front desk lady (short Latino woman with glasses) had apparently lied to the office manager about the status of my authorization and the nature of my calls. So the office manager was blinded by what I was requesting. And then even after finding out her staff had lied and that it caused me to drive a the way there from my home with a tired baby, SHE NEVER APOLOGIZED. she was too concerned about getting back to her lunch. Dr. Gaston also failed to apologize. He just grabbed his salad and ran to the back of the office. The office manager gave me some nonsense excuse about using the same medication and insurance never covering it, so I told her to use whatever pharmacy. That took another day even though she promised it would be done that day. One week later I receive a WRONG prescription for psoriasis. Not acne. When I call the pharmacy, they explain that this is what the office called in. So I call the office and speak to Chris- the office manager. Of course after being on hold for 20 minutes. Inform her of the mistake. No apology! She just asks me what script I was supposed to get. I'm sorry what?!?! Why do you have patient charts?!?!?! So it took me two months to get a prescription and it doesn't even work!!!! This office and all its staff is RUDE, INCOMPETENT, AND NEGLIGENT. From the front desk personnel to the office manager, to Dr. Gaston- who can't even remember what script he gives to what patient. Find a more professional dermatologist office that will at the very least give it's patients the correct prescriptions. read more

I saw Dr Gaston once and will never go back. He removed something for me and didn't do a full exam, even though I told him I had not been to a dermatologist for several years. It turns out I had melanoma, which was only caught because I went to another dermatologist. Oh - and when I needed my paperwork for the other doctor, they told me they had lost it. What Mr. Gastion failed to tell me was that the local anaesthetics that he injected around the mole would leave scars. I went to see Dr. gaston in his Baltimore office. I waited for what seemed like a century. Yet, he started by removing the blackheads and then prescribing me a compound. After, seeing doctors for YEARS, he knew what was best for my skin. I've moved to NJ but continuously come back for treatment. I'm wondering why it says that 6 of his reviews aren't worth reading. I have yet to see them, well...unless you count the receptionist once but I'll get to that in a minute as it's why I am writing this! It was about 3 weeks ago in August and I had been slated for a physical with my PCP in around a week and the stomach pains that landed me in the ER had just started but it felt no worse than menstrual ones and I just treated it like that or food poisoning as my lovely friend brought me an egg salad sandwich that had been in her car for an hour without AC and it was 100 out! Anyway, I tried calling his number and it should have been my first clue to hit the net as it was outta service! I gave the benefit of the doubt and walked to the address on the referral! There was a note on the door (this was before the net fully caught up with this change) that his new office was at 8155 16th st and since I was nearby I walked over and scheduled an appointment and got this whole 'Meh, we can't help the phone company not setting it up yet, hun and we have been here a month." bit. Well guess what, they have been there about two now (from the time she told me they moved in) and still no phone(s)! I know this as during the physical my stomach pain on a scale of 1-10 was 60-100 and I took myself to the ER for fluids and put myself on bed rest! As a result of it happening two days before my appointment and me still not well enough to go down and cancel I tried fruitlessly calling the day before to cancel and got NO SERVICE! To top it all off, they obviously marked it as a missed appointment and billed my Medicaid! HOW LOVELY OF THEM!!! read more

He has done multiple procedures for me and I have always had great outcomes. He has great experience and I tell my friends that need a referral about him. Very disappointed in Dr. Gaston - big waste of money. I went in because I was unusually for me getting a lot of zits. I told him the acne consisted of hard plugs that I had to pry out with a pin. Dr. Gaston looked quickly and said, based on my age, that it was peri-menopause. He said he diagnoses peri-menopause as a cause of this type of acne all the time. He prescribed a harsh face cleanser and a harsh antibiotic benzoyl peroxide topical lotion. I tried them twice; my face felt HORRIBLE, like burning paper. I had told Dr. Gaston I already had dry skin - this made it 100 times worse. I (unlike Dr. Gaston) knew that all this drying and harshness would only irritate and exacerbate the acne. So I went online with the idea that maybe the face lotion I'd been using was to blame - voila, turns out coconut oil is very clogging. I changed to avocado oil and my zits are gone. Dr. Gaston never even MENTIONED the possibility that my cleanser, lotion, or blush could be causing the problem - why the hell not? Are doctors really THAT uninformed and lacking in common sense and intelligence? How many women have gotten these horrible prescriptions and ruined their skin? Not to mention how bad it is to have antibiotics going into your system every day and increasing your immunity to them when they're needed for something serious. I'm disgusted with Dr. Gaston, as I am with many doctors, whose idea of "treatment" consist of looking for 3 seconds and throwing drugs at you. I wish I could find a doctor that actually tries to determine the CAUSE of problems. I've been misdiagnosed probably 75% of the times I've gone to doctors - I don't even know why I bother anymore. The Internet is much more helpful! The state of medicine is very sad at this point, and Dr. Gaston is a definite representative of the low-quality care doctors are giving these days. DO NOT GO HERE! WORST HEALTH DECISION TO MAKE. I went in to check the moles and extra skin on my body. The doctor went in and removed skin from my body to supposedly get a byopsy done. He poked all over my body to get skin samples and I paid extra for these services and for a byopsy. Dr. Gaston Larry told me to come back in three weeks for my results. Three weeks passed and no one called me. I called and called. I was told to wait a little longer for the results. Then, they asked me what I had gotten done. At this point, I was concerned that they had lost my results. I visited the office and finally they allowed to speak with Dr. Gaston Larry to told me I had nothing. I asked him to see my results and he told me he had thrown them away. I was shocked at this point. How can lose your patient's skin results? I knew he had probably lost my skin samples and he was lying instead of being honest with me because my life is at stake here. I left that place, but because I was still concerned and I did a little more digging, I called and I asked to see the paperwork of my byopsy. Now, they are telling me they did not do a byopsy on me. I asked for your email because I wanted to share my concerns with you and I was told you do not have an email. You have left me no recourse but to write a review to raise awareness of your malpractice. Dr. Gaston Harry, when you lose a client's skin samples, BE ETHICAL, say it! We are all human and I would have appreciated the truth and worked with you. But, you lied and you continue to lie with a reckless disregard for my health. I HOPE LOTS OF PEOPLE READ THIS because no one deserves a lying doctor. I know you would not like that done to you or your love ones. I think you missed your ethics class in med school. read more

This was a very unsatisfying experience overall! I scheduled an appointment and when I walked in there were only 2-3 people in the waiting room. The wait was long, and I wasn't called in for well over an hour (but this doesn't mean that he spends time with his patients!) The receptionist had no idea what my insurance covered and tried to charge me more than what my co-pay is. When I finally made it inside, the doctor was just rushing to get me out. He didn't even LOOK at my skin! He didn't ask me any questions about my skin, my diet, my lifestyle -nothing! He didn't even notice my comedones until I pointed them out, and he finally got up and looked at my skin. Without doing a detailed exam, asking my history, or even considering any further tests, he started writing a prescription for some creams and gels. I don't have bad acne, it's fairly mild. The medication he prescribed is VERY strong. But in terms of this visit, dermatologist, and overall experience, I do not recommend this clinic. read more

I went to see the doctor for three different skin areas (A, B, and C). Initially, he told me A and B are the same problem and should use the same medicine and C should use another medicine. After I got the different medicines from the drug store, I only saw the instruction of "Apply to affected area twice a day" for all the medicine. So I called the doctor trying to make sure the application area of each medicine. The front desk answered my phone, went to ask the doctor, and told me a totally different story - B and C are the same problem instead of A and B as the doctor initially told me. I couldn't believe it, so I asked whether I can talk with the doctor directly. To my surprise, I was told impossible and I need to see the doctor again if I want to talk with him. read more

I personal love Dr. Larry Gaston. I am a regular patient of his and is always recommending my friends and co-workers to go to him. Dr. Gaston has always cleared up any skin disorder that I had. I go to the office in Baltimore and Highly recommend this very friendly doctor to anyone. Everyone doesn't have the same type of skin and a lot of times a medication may be to strong but there is know way a doctor can tell if that medication is not the one for you until you contact the doctor to tell him your side effects. If you notice medications all has side effects. And when it comes to the waiting time to be seen. Good things comes to those who wait. At least Dr. Gaston has walk-in hours. First, the receptionist staff lack customer service and blame you before you can complete your sentence (I was calling to say I had left several messages and no one ever returned my calls and their response was to cut me off and tell me "well, you know we don't open until 9!" yet their machine says 8:30 am and they indeed answered the phone at 8:31 am). They sent us the very FIRST bill a year and half after our visit to say the account was past due and to contact their office immediately, hence my reason for calling multiple times. I called both the Baltimore and Silver Spring locations and got the very same run-around (that someone from billing would return my call). When my husband went for his appointment, he, like many others, waited for two hours to see Dr. Gaston who didn't ask any questions or look at his skin before prescribing a cream and a set of pills. While medical care today sucks in general, the experience with Dr. Gaston's office and the doctor himself is exceptionally below standard care. read more

My mom went to see him for almost a year for a small wound on her finger with some kind of seafood bacterial infection and finally he say he can't cure it after whole damn year and after going thru five antibiotic injection, five different cream antibiotic and 3 different oral antibiotic which she got allergy reaction from one of them. Plus 3 times laser surgery where he burn the whole top skin off. Every time we go there we had to wait at least an hour after our appointment time cuz he was never on time. Make a whole god damn room of patients waited for him. Now we went to see the hand surgeon and try to had them send over the paper works, they freakin lose my biopsy result, now my mom have to has another piece of skin dig out of her finger to get exactly what kind of bacterial causing the wound. Yes to all the negative- the wait is long, the staff is dumb acting, the place is dirty....but he knows what hes doing....Thats why it is so packed! These are repeat patients and referrals who tried all the others first. Most are people of color. Our skin is not the same and we need a man of color with years of experience to treat our skin. Yes- He could step up his game and professionalism....But he has hundreds of patients and been in business for many years in TWO locations. You cant get there being a QUACK...People are smarter than that. I went to 5 area doctors first and my own Pharmacist uses Dr. Gaston- She referred me and I go when needed. It is really far for me. OMG I wish I read this reviews b4 I took my 2 yr granddaughter tot his DR. Where do I start. When I called 2 set up an appt, a woman answered the phone Hello. Just Hello. I had to ask if I had reached Dr Gaston's ofc. I asked if he worked with toddlers. I got a yep. Woman gave me a 2pm appt the following week. Never asked for my name or the child's, never asked for any insurance info, heck didnt ever ask my callback #. All which I asked if she needed. She took nothing but my name. Then asked if I preferred 3pm.... WOW. Appt day, we arrived at 145pm to waiting room full of people, dingy colors, chairs that were mismatched and torn. At 215p I ask the recptist if the Doc was running behind. She looked at the sign in chart and says you are next after 2 more people. What I have an appt??? 45 mins later, we are called back to a room that is bad if not worst then the waiting room.. Next to the sink was a red crate (looked like a costco create not a medical approved waste container) that was overflowing with needles. In walks the guy in a white coat. Is he really the doc. Greasy Gerry Curl Hair to his shoulders, he lab coat is dirty. I tell him abt my granddaughter's skin condition from allergies that have left scarring. I showed him pictures of her breakouts. He never once examined her. He just sat there nodding his head and wrote a RX. He told me if she had another breakout to come back, He told me I could call for an appt or just walk in with no appt bcuz many people do.. WOW does that explain the room full of people and the 45 min wait. Since he told me that, I decided to tell him abt my call to set up my appt.. His only response was OH she's new recptist , my regular recptist is out on back surgery.. From the ofc I went straight to Giant Pharmacy. I figured that the RX was just a B12 creme, so I would get it filled and used till I could locate another Doc. Abt 20 mins into the wait, the Pharmacist pulls me aside and said there is something funny with this RX, I have issues with this Doc all the time, I will have to call over there and have the ofc fax me the info, I told the ofc that the patient is here at the pharmacy waiting. 60 mins later, no fax , no call. I told the pharmacist to call me and I would return. Well guess what, no call. The next morning I call the ofc. I questioned the status of the fax.I had to repeat the childs name 3x and spelled a common name 2x, only to be put on hold for 10 mins. Recptist comes back and said I have the request, what is the pharmacy's fax #. The pharmacist gave them all the info yday. At this point I lost it, and told the recptist this place is a QUACK, forget it........... I will be reporting the create to the county medical. read more
