What can be worse than an eyeglass emergency? How about a Sunday eyeglass emergency? Saturday night I took off my glasses to go to bed. As I was folding the sides closed, I heard a "crack" and all of a sudden my glasses were in two pieces. Damn !!! The local LencCrafters has Sunday hours and I was there when they opened up. The old frame couldn't be salvaged because the internal spring had snapped. My next hope on the monetary severity scale was trying to move the old lenses into a new frame. I was waited on by a wonderful lady named Lyudmila. She looked up my records, said my broken frames were from 2005, so they most definitely were no longer in stock. Her challenge now was to find something in stock that would accommodate my odd sized progressive lenses. She put them into one pair that "fit" but not to her standards -she said she didn't want to sell me that. She went through the inventory and found a better fit, She checked the bridge distance, found it to be off by a few millimeters, and adjusted it 3 times until my vision was exactly where it was yesterday. She was so patient, so meticulously dedicated to perfection, so determined to make the right product work for me, and so professional, I was thrilled. She helped me with the vision insurance I had and was 100% helpful. Fabulous service in every respect....

My dream glasses!!! Ps. Avon has a better selection versus west farms where everyone and their mothers have tried them on!

I walked in with a broken pair of glasses. I walked out with a fixed pair and no charge. Spectacular experience!

. After that woeful conversation, I basically b-lined it to the Avon location in search of a nicer, less used pair

"I can see clearly now the rain is gone I can see all…read moreobstacles in my way" (Johnny Nash) We've become big fans of Warby Parker, and they've been our eyeglass vendor for a few years. We order in person and pick up the new glasses after a 25-mile drive to their West Hartford, CT store at the West Farms Mall. Ordering and fitting on-line are risks we aren't ready to take, but many people do this. But now we can visit Warby Parker by driving less than 5 miles to their newest location in the Shops at Farmington Valley in Canton, CT, where they took over space previously occupied by Coldwater Creek and a Yankee Candle pop-up store. The procedure was the same as it was in Manchester. You first meet with a salesperson to choose your frames, find (or set up) your account and order, confirm insurance, and review your prescription. Then an optician meets with you, makes sure the frame, lenses, and your prescription are all compatible with your face, etc. Then you finalize things with the salesperson, place the order, and await the arrival of your glasses. The young lady who helped us was new, and she did a nice job with a little help on some questions. Another young lady I spoke to was temporarily on loan from a WB Massachusetts location. The frame selection is amazing and range from simple conservative styles to bolder frames with color, shiny designs and more. Our glasses cost just $50 with insurance, and we were happy with the selection and service.

I walked in the store and was immediately greeted by a salesman named Dan. Dan was ever so knowledgeable. He shared with me that he had years of experience in this business. He knew just what frames would be flattering on me and helped me narrow it down and made the process so incredibly easy. He is terrific with customer service and I would highly recommend him. In fact, if I had an eyeglasses store, I would hire him to work for me! Great experience!

"And I will sing Waiting for the gift of sound and vision"…read more(David Bowie) One of the side effects of living in your town for almost 40 years is that your doctors eventually retire and you'll need to find a replacement. It happened with my primary care physician (as well as his replacement). It happened to my dentist. And it happened to my eye doctor. So that explains why in December 2015, I became a patient of Solinsky Eye Care when they took over my eye doctor's practice upon his retirement. Solinsky has ten locations across Connecticut, and I visit Dr. Jessica Olewnik at the Avon office. She has been fantastic to work with. She is friendly, personable, and extremely thorough and helpful. Solinsky is very proactive on keeping up with technology and industry advances. Did you have one of those field of vision exams? Just a few years ago, the current technology would have you stick your face into a contraption that reminded me of a submarine captain peering into a periscope, like Sean Connery did in "The Hunt for Red October". Well, that is no longer state of the art. Yesterday I had the same test using a Virtual Reality headset! And I have to mention Solinsky's Front Desk Associate (I'm embarrassed I can't remember her name) who may be the greatest goodwill ambassador I've ever seen in a medical setting. She's been there forever and is a holdover from Solinsky's predecessor.
