It's been awhile since I have been back here and before coming I already knew what I wanted to order. Their lomo saltado is pretty good and very flavorful from the vinegar based sauce that they use. We usually get the standard appetizers but what they have that sets them apart from alot of other Peruvian cuisine restaurants, is their Yucca balls with mozzarella in the middle paired with their Huancaina sauce. All this with a cold Inca Cola and it was a beast of a meal. Next time, I am coming for lunch and getting the Chicharones de Pollo, which is not chicken tenders, but more of a chicken breast meat/cracklin served with fries. read more

A home-y restaurant with great food and simple, clean ambiance. Rare Peruvian offerings such as yucca fries, huancaina sauce, and Inca cola make this an interesting place. It's definitely a place to try at least once in your life. The quality of food is excellent and the very adequate portions are both a blessing and a curse because you won't leave hungry, but there's a chance you'll be bored before the last bite. ---- This is a solid Peruvian restaurant. Unless you are Peruvian, you'll find dishes and flavors here rarely found anywhere else in Houston. The seafood is excellent. The ceviche (choros a la chalaca) is awesome. The fried calamari is excellent. The seafood paella (arroz con mariscos o paella) is fantastic. Inca cola is a very sweet soda that tastes a bit like bubblegum. Yucca is a fibrous potato and is delicious when fried. I've come here several times and the experiences have been consistently good. The portions are generous and fitting for the price, however some may disagree because certain dishes are covered in sauce and produces a singular flavor that gets boring about halfway through eating the giant dish. Without a doubt, you should try this place at least once in your life. To illustrate my point, remember those college days where you made homemade spaghetti with the store-bought sauce and added a couple random vegetables to spice it up? How delicious it was! ...and then you realize just how many portions those jars of sauce provide... and how tired of those noodles and sauce you got as you tried to finish it. Lemon Tree's similar in that you get great portions with great flavor, but it's really only 1 flavor you're tasting and chances are you'll be bored by the last bite. The waitstaff are very nice, but I think this place is slightly understaffed. If you're one of the few tables there, there's no problem. If a large party or group comes along, your service really, really suffers. From the time I finished my dinner and my plates were cleared, we were offered dessert after ~10 minutes, and ~20 minutes elapsed before I got my check. I waited ~15 minutes and then walked up to the cashier to pay my check. The environment is nice and clean. There's live music on Friday and Saturday. I went with a group on Friday night and there was a guy playing a keyboard. The music was really cheesy and his rendition of happy birthday was highly entertaining. It reminded me of Ross on Friends. We were sitting right next to him though, so it become annoying after some time. Some of the group I was with also said the liberal use of lemon was out of balance with the food. Being the only Peruvian restaurant in Houston I know of, I can't bring myself to give this place 3 stars. The food and rare finds are excellent, but it's not a place I can go to every week. Nice small white tablecloth place. Waiters in B & W---w/ties. Cool. Heard good things about the place. The sort of place you'd hear soft Latin sounds piped in. But NO. There was a young man--perhaps a relative looking for exposure, DJing. Spinning & sampling. In a white tablecloth place. Then, I ordered iced tea. I was brought a can of Lipton Brisk(sweetened & lemoned), which means no refills. , What if I was diabetic? Just wanted 'no sugar'? These were never offered. The food was as good as expected. Awesome food! Pollo saltado was nice. I'm eating Peruvian cuisine for the first time and now will have to come back again and again! I was tempted by everyone's dishes around so this is definitely one of the popular hangouts. We could not resist to order the in-house cake which was being ordered on all the tables around us and we did not make a wrong choice. The desert was yum till the last bite. This is my favorite Peruvian Restaurant not only in Houston but in the US. The place is a whole in the wall, so don't expect anything fancy. But this makes it unique... and their ceviche is my favorite by far. We have been to several Peruvian Restaurants, La Mar in San Francisco, Ceviche 101 in Miami, to name a few and I still always tell my husband " I prefer Lemon Tree". The only other place where I can say I love the Ceviche is in Segundo Muelle in Panama... Oh and the Pescado en Salsa de Camarones is to die for, if you are counting calories you can ask them to prepare it steamed or "al vapor"- and it tastes even better! The service is slow, so don't expect more than 1 or 2 servers working but they are nice and this is why I keep coming back after about 8 years! read more

I've been to a few cities in Peru and the food at Lemon Tree is just as good. Their fresh made desserts are a must and dishes are delicious as well as generous. The service is slow, so expect to spend min an hour when not busy for a slow dining experience and another 30min when busy. Still, the friendly staff, great food and value make up for the slowness. read more

This place is fantastic. I've been here a few times before and each time the food was flavorful and delicious. We had the ceviche to share, which is so so good. I love ceviche but I'm very particular about it, I like my ceviche very citrusy and they do a good job of that here (hence the name LEMON tree). I had the Pollo Saltado today and I've had the Lomo Saltado before, both are super delicious. The fries seem odd given there's already rice with the dish but its all a great combo. I think what I love about both of these dishes is the garlic broth that it is served on, very citrusy salty and tasty. My friends both got the Lomo con Salsa de Champignones, I tried and OMG was it good but its in a creamy sauce which for me for lunch is too heavy. But I was certainly happy to have a bite :) read more

My wife and I recently moved from Los Angeles to Katy and we were dying to try some Peruvian food. An acquaintance told us to try this restaurant, so we had a late lunch there this passed Saturday. Too make a long story short....on a scale of 1-10, the food was a 7 but the service was a 2. We'll probably never go there again, just because of the service. Wonderful! We also found Cristal and Cusquena down the street at Fiesta and brought it with us. No corkage either!

My wife and I tried Lemon Tree on a whim the other night. We found the food great hot and delicious. We will be back.

okay, so the ceviche Is actually pretty good but the service is terrible and this restaurant misses the mark in many different departments. Canned soft drinks no ice, terrible ice tea I had to send back-drank water instead. No sweet n low or equal even. No salt and pepper on table.....I know it sounds like nit picking but there are certain basic things you come to expect when you go out to a restaurant for dinner. This restaurant is OK....this is not a fine dinning place. Food is somehow acceptable, but the service is below average. Besides it does not have a good atmosphere...tables are too close....and they don't even play Peruvian music....parking is a pain. I came here with a group of friends because I had a groupon. The area is a bit shady and it is definitely a hole in the wall of a strip center. The good: The food was delicious! The bad: The service was terrible. It would take forever to get a glass of water. Afterwards we wanted dessert but the waitress didn't come by to ever get our order. I had been told about this place a few times, never had heard about Peruvian food, so yesterday I decided to go try it. Wednesday around 6.45pm- The place has its own reserved parking lot, that made me a bit worry when I saw no cars parked and the inside looked like a reception hall. We walked in, and it looked like the tables where arranged for a wedding, very nice and elegant. They serve a green sauce that is made of Jalapenos and some other stuff they did not explain to me what it was, for you to eat with cheeps. The menu is 95% seafood, so if you are not a seafood fan this is not a place for you. The food was prepared in around 10-12 mins, relatively slow considering there was no one else in the restaurant. The drinks are limited, no refile, since they serve soda cans. I ordered Pescado a lo Macho and it was supposed to be fried with other seafood creatures. The fish was not fry at all, the texture was not the best., so for the dish I will give it a 65/100. Also we had a shrimp dish and that one was a lot better. The portions are small, the price is $12.50-$16.00 not pricy but you will need to go get some more food an hour later. Now , Tres Leches was amazing; great home made ($6), also had a slide of a dessert of made out of a fruit typical of Peru, not bad either. The restrooms are SMALL and constricted to get to. Over all, I liked it, but not a place I would visit often. read more

WOW! We were pleasantly amazed and enjoyed it greatly. We read an early review about small portions and though we usually split a meal we decided to order two meals since we were both very hungry. HUGE PORTIONS!! We both took half of the meal home and had for dinner the next day. Exquisitely good taste. Unusual and creative spices made it a joyful culinary adventure. We were the first patrons at 6:00pm on a Friday night. Following the online advice we made reservations and were VERY glad we did. EVERY table was reserved! Great food. Good value. We wouldn't have discovered it without Groupon, but we will definitely go back. Try them! It is a very unassuming culinary treasure hidden in a low scale little strip center. This place puts Peruvian food to shame. I'm Peruvian and this place was just embarrassing with every dish, especially the chicha morada that was bottled instead of freshly made. The Ají de Gallina sauce was mixed with what seemed to be cheddar cheese - the flavor was just so off from the traditional dish in a bad way. Even trying to mix in ají rocoto did not help to improve the taste since the rocoto was watered down with what tasted like tomato paste. Peru is currently the food capital of Latin America, but no one in Houston would know that if this is their first place to try it out. Visit La Guitarra con Sazon if you want to truly experience Peruvian food. What made it worst was the lack of service, and the quality of the service when they actually came by. Also, the parking lot was horrible since the layout of the parking lot is so overly crowded with other buildings that limited parking drastically. read more

They didn't have or even know what Rocoto pepper was which was a bit surprising. No liquor license either, so no Peruvian Pisco Sours.... We were very disappointed. read more

I think that this restaurant is not as good as I thought. I tried the ceviche and we have to return it to the kitchen because it didn't have any flavor, poor in lemon and low in salt. The same thing happened with the arroz con mariscos. The only thing that I like there was the Tres Leches dessert. I think that this restaurant is "ok" for non peruvian people, for americans that haven't tried the real flavor of the peruvian food, If you're a little picky about food as I am, I won't recommend you this place. read more

I been in this place for a fruends birthday las week , this was my first time and I was little nerviuse to try something new, my friends told ne I had nothing to worry that I wont be dusapointed with the food, I statted with choros a la chalaca and it was just amazing I loved the presentation and the flabor was just amazing, and for my main course I decided to try lomo saltado and it was the best experience with food I have ever had I definitly will be returning to this place and highly reconended read more
