It took them almost 30 minutes to get us our food. This is like a home cooked meal, so maybe that is not too bad if you are not in a hurry. I got the meatloaf. You can get steak, chicken, or fish at about every restaurant like this. For me, I always like to check these kinds of places out by their meatloaf. I mean you can do a lot with meatloaf. Here it was pretty good. It had some unique spice to it that I could not put my finger on get on. I could taste black pepper with something. While I enjoyed it, the more of it I ate, the stinger that flavor was and it was just a tad too much for my liking. The green beans were fine and nothing fancy. The mashed potatoes were really good and the brown gravy was good, but I did not care much for how they tasted together. The potato recipe was really good, but it did not pair well for me. My wife had grilled salmon and loved it. She had a baked sweet potato side, but it was not fully cooked. Overall it was an ok experience in a small town for home cooked meals. Instead I had fried chicken, hot and juicy, with the best-in-the-world coleslaw and fries. Wonderful. My friend had a tenderloin sandwich, which is a misnomer. The meat was 3 times the size of the bread so he used fingers, knife and fork... making yummy noises as he went. We enjoyed the bottomless ice tea ... very good, clearly homemade. Absolutely phenomenal Kalua Pork done exactly as it should be. I have since tried several of their other menu items but the pork is far and above my very favorite. I was discussing the various menu options just Wednesday night with the only person in front of me in line and she expressed her strong desire for the Chicken Teriyaki Rice Bowl. I told her that I had been pleased with everything on the menu but she was going to stay strong and stick with her usual order. Once again, this is in Hodgenville, not a place known for adventuresome eating, and their food is so good that they already have a strong following in an area where Hawaiian cuisine is practically unknown. By the time the truck actually opened for service, there was a significant line of people waiting to order. It also makes me very happy that poke is on the horizon. Considering there hasn't been any competition to them in the area it is a welcomed option to the area. In all fairness to them, coming from the islands and making many of the same dishes they offer, "Mama's is hard to beat." Know that this is not a complaint or to say mine is better. Everyone has different tastes for what they are used to and what Papa Haoles offers may provide what an individual has preference. If you crave Hawaiian style "grinds" and either don't know how to make it or want the quick fix, this should be your go-to. Their rotation of locations each day is smart to extend their reach within Hardin County. What is nice is they rotate within the same day! This is the essence of a food truck, to be on the move and for you to be ready to go after where they may be. In the spirit of some popular trucks in bigger cities giving them #papahaoles will increase their recognition and following. They are also great at rotating their offerings and providing new items to prevent stagnation. It won't be a surprise if they eventually gain enough volume to demand a storefront in the near future. Their 4 star rating is primarily based on the variety of options, the unique faire that this area lacks and the taste of the islands this area desperately needed. Islanders support other islanders and it's exciting to know we have somewhere to go, when "Mama don't feel like cooking tonight" A great alternative over the plethora of Asian style restaurants in the area. I'm a wimp when it comes to heat so the jalapeños that comes with this order had to get pushed aside but thankfully it was not drowning in it that the slight heat from remnants on a chip was still enjoyable. I didn't get the chance to take a pic of their menu but am guessing you may be able to find it on their FB page. I would've ordered an horchata if it was offered on their menu. The only reason why I didn't ask is because I already had a drink from a previous stop. I expected it to be a little cheaper in Corydon but it was about the same for tacos that I pay in Columbus, OH. The elote however was crazy cheap at -$3 and was fantastic. Chips were so so. Sals was pretty spicy but I like spice and it was good resturaunt thick puree style. Taco al pastor was terrific. Pork was well seasoned and juicy tender. Toppings and corn tortilla were awesome. Beef hard shell taco was so so. The shell was great and you could tell made in house. The beef had no flavor. My two biggest issues: the taco was tiny. They serve in laying on its side. So I had to reassemble it. Beer was cold and reasonable price. Overall would recommend and visit again.
