We ordered a Montana shelving unit, and while the lead time was a little long, it was definitely worth the wait. The delivery team did a great job and the shelf looks great in our living room. This store is AWESOME. Lots of unique, modern furniture and accessories. I saw a wall installed wine rack in a magazine, looked at the caption and found out that it's sold at a boston store--that's how I found the place. I ended up buying the wine rack for myself, and another for a friend of mine. (I uploaded the pictures). Their furniture is a little pricey, but not bad especially if you consider that what you're getting there is totally unique. I happened to come across this store one Sunday, and was so excited to find a shop that sold accessories with a northern European design, though mostly German. If there was one wish, would be to have more Danish or Scandinavian designs available. It's definitely not your everyday Crate and Barrel, and it's certainly a step above IKEA, so keep that in mind when you look at the price tag, however, I don't think that it's impossible to to find something within your price range. For those interested in modern and minimalist furniture and accessories, then this is the store for you! There are not many retailers that sell Gus Modern lounge chairs, but Lekker Home is one of them. I ordered two on my ATM card, but the sale did not go through. Forward to end of story, Joe a Lekker associate, spent two weeks and numerous calls to get this order placed. Always patient, courteous, professional and encouraging. Interesting products. Lousy--I mean rude and obnoxious--customer service. I will never shop here again. You'd be better off not shopping here either. I would concur with Laura M. except for different reasons. Here's what happened to me: I purchased several flatware place settings from Lekker, but at the time could only afford a few sets. About a year later I received an offer for 10% off web purchases, so I took advantage of it to purchase the remaining place settings. The only problem is that the web site does not show the finish, so I received flatware with the wrong finish. There was no way for me to know this while ordering it. As a favor to the store, I offered to bring the items directly to the store, so they wouldn't have to pay for shipping. All went well, until I came in to return it. Instead of allowing me to return the incorrect items and replace them with the correct ones, they wanted me to do a complete return, forsaking the discount. This really irritated me because this was not something I had done intentionally and then suddenly changed my mind. When the owner brought up my account, there was a long list of items I had ordered from the store--for myself, as wedding gifts, etc.--so I was not a one-off customer. Things escalated to the point that the owner got extremely huffy and refused to budge even after I asked her who the customer was. She told me that I could return the items for store credit (over $300) only. When I refused on the grounds that she would be holding my money for a mistake that her company made, she eventually relented, but in a most rude manner. A friend of mine was with me and observed the whole transaction. Her feeling was that the customer is always right and that you should never be rude to a customer--especially a longstanding one and especially not in front of other customers. I have found a much better company that carries similar product lines in New Hampshire called Addo Novo. Their prices are lower, and they don't charge tax or shipping. They were a pleasure to work with and bent over backwards to accommodate me. read more

Ordering from Lekker Home was, without a doubt, the WORST customer service experience I have ever had. While perusing Food Network Magazine's Holiday issue, I spied the golden porcelain chicken and thought that it would be a wonderful gift for my mom. And it would have been had she actually received it. I ordered the item online on December 14th. The website said that the item will take 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. Fine. Whatever. Well, I waited patiently for EIGHT weeks and decided to call the store to find the whereabouts of the chicken. I was told that there had been a delay but I should receive my purchase in two weeks. Two weeks passed, no chicken. I called the store and spoke with a very rude and condescending man who informed me that I'm not the only one waiting for the chicken (was that supposed to be some sort of consolation?) and that after it arrives stateside it must go through customs and blah, blah, blah. He also informed me that it was "on the water" and should be delivered in TWO WEEKS. Two weeks passed, still no chicken. So I call the store again and speak with a woman. She informs me that the golden porcelain chicken is "on the water" and should be here in (wait for it...) TWO WEEKS!!! What, are they sending this thing over the Atlantic in a dinghy?! Consequently, I chose to cancel the order at that time. ALSO, Lekker Home charged my account $99 on the very day that I ordered the item. This, if I am correct, is not standard business practice. Usually the customer is charged only once the item is en route. AND the co-founder Curt Carpenter replied to a complaint that I sent by saying that he apologizes if I "felt" as though no resolution had been offered (it wasn't a feeling, no resolution had been offered at all) and that I will receive a 10% discount on FUTURE purchases. How completely infuriating! Firstly, who in their right mind would make a future purchase after all this?! Secondly, don't apologize for my feelings, apologize for the ineptitude of your staff and Lekker Home's shady business practices. read more

Oh, Lekker, how I love thee. Yeah, the stuff is to die for, and makes me almost want to marry the wrong man so I can register there. Seriously, they need to make Barbie dolls out of Natalie, the owner: gorgeous, classy, gracious, has a cool accent, has great taste and is a successful businesswoman (she'd probably have a damn kickin' Dream House too). Over the span of months, I bought a number of items to become my everyday dishes. A piece here, a couple of pieces there. For me, it was an expense. I'm sure she has clients who come in and drop thousands at a time. But Natalie would always greet me with a sincere "so good to see you!" and chat with me for a few minutes--even if I don't buy anything, she always thanks me for stopping in. She even counseled me NOT to get pieces to complete the set--like the gravy boat or creamer. I also fell in love with a pretty mod Royal Doulton set of pasta bowls. Those, too, I collected over time. When I came in to buy several, she had to special order them from the Netherlands and said I'd get a call when the new shipment was in. I didn't hear from Lekker for almost five months, and yeah, I thought I had been forgotten. Silly me for losing faith: the call DID come eventually--things got snagged in Customs, apparently; and when you order from small European factories, sometimes it takes time for them to make the stuff in the first place. Anyhow, because it had taken so long, the exchange rate had really skewed the Euro higher than the dollar, and Natalie was going to have to reprice the bowls I had ordered at a higher rate. But not mine: she sold them to me at the lower, original price even if she had to take a loss. That's class. That's good service. That's what you need to know about Lekker. That's why I keep going back for myself and to get really cool gifts that never fail to thrill. read more

This place is awesome: always so friendly and has a fun, interesting collection of things to match a more classic Crate and Barrel apartment (which is what mine is). I get smaller things from them: place mats and candles mainly. I came in today because a nice candle I got (for 60 dollars) had a wick that went out after not that many hours of use (or rather, still had a lot more hours to go as this candle is known to give something like 300 hours!). Without any question or even looking the receipt on file they kindly gave me a brand new candle! I am really excited as I was worried I would need to fight with management about how the product was not on par with other candle I had purchased but they were accommodating, friendly, and listened to my concern. I wlll for sure remain a customer here for smaller and maybe one day a larger purchase here. I like their stuff a lot just a little too modern and far too expensive for me. Their head boards are over 1k sometimes and mine is from Pottery Barn for instance and was only 500 on sale in the spring. In any event: a great local business with great customer service. This is actually my 'go to' place for a funky gift for that hard-to-buy person on my list (and face it, I am a dude, so EVERYONE on my list is hard to buy for - and so therefore I am usually also visiting this place at the very last minute). I can't say I walk out with a gift every time, but it is definitely worth the attempt. Some of the stuff is pricey - and some stuff is odd (how many people need a modern design shoe horn/corkscrew/soap dispenser combination??) The furniture is stunning, worth every dime - and it was a lot of dimes! The delivery was painless, everything fits perfectly, the support staff were fantastic. Terrible customer service. Bought an item on credit card and realized they take level up. Asked if I could just return and rebuy it. The nasty owner(?) said all sales are final. Well the five dollar difference is called good will and its what you give your regular customers. Instead they get this one star review. Hope it was worth it. Follow up: The owner apologized and sent me a coupon after I posted this review. I have been back to the store since. I still feel like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman walking into Lekker. I am on the hunt for a small dresser and a small side table. I search Yelp and find a handful of places scattered throughout Southie and the South End, so hubby and I make an afternoon of it. I didn't realize that my Yelp search was about to take me to some of the most unknown, yet most expensive home goods stores in the city! That's how I wound up at Lekker (just the name alone led me to expect über expensive Ikea-esque goods - which it wasn't at all). Unlike most of the other reviewers, I found the staff to be very welcoming and friendly. Although it is true that they were more interested in continuing their own conversation and milling about the shop than going out of their way to offer any help to clientele. I will add though, the place is tiny (hence the pending upgrade to a larger location) and doesn't really lend to someone following you around or asking you if you need help repeatedly - it's not like you're going to get lost in there. You could easily speak to the associate from one end of the shop to the other. And they did happily offer their help when we waked in and invited us to sit down, try out the furniture and let them know if we needed anything. I don't find a lack of interaction beyond that offensive or hostile, so I was more than satisfied with my service experience. As for the products - they offer quite an eclectic mix of furniture and home decor - and eclectic only means one thing when it comes to price - $$$. I was intrigued by many of their offerings - mother of pearl mini spoons (no idea what they were for), teak salt and pepper dispenser (didn't realize that's what it was until I read the label), various melamine tabletop trays (sadly, none of the designs particularly spoke to me) and an array of candles and soaps (I already own too much of both of those). They also had a few different sets of dish/tableware on display mixed with random household/decor items and small conversation pieces. Aside from the knick-knacks, they had many a lounge chair, a few couches and a dining set (or two?), all priced well above my budget. If I had super deep pockets and could throw my cash around like it wasn't no thang, I could probably afford to (and probably would) shop here. Alas, I am in a financial situation where I must invest my monies into purchases that prove truly essential or that I fall so in love with that I absolutely must own. I have wandered into this shop from time to time in the mood to buy something, but it has an odd mix of extremely expensive, heavy, gigantic soaps that could break your big toe and pricey housewares that don't look a heck of a lot different from Ikea. And shouldn't people in retail be welcoming? I wonder if they cater mostly to decorators who have clueless clients with incredibly deep pockets and consider walk-in customers a nuisance, because that's how it feels. The staff seems perpetually engrossed in conversation with each other and may give you a condescending glare if they deign to acknowledge you at all. I really like the neighborhood, so I wish a friendlier retail establishment that sells reasonably priced merchandise would replace this bad tempered boutique from house-ware hell. read more

Interesting to browse for ideas and maybe accent pieces for a room in your home. I like the blomus stainless steel products. Google blomus to see their products extensively. Some nice small items, not interested in modern furniture, theirs was plain etc... Horrible customer service. I bought a $4,000 table in December, never received purchase confirmation, never received shipping confirmation. I called numerous times before reaching anyone, was told I'd be called back with more information. No one ever called me. I continued following up and was told that the table had shipped last week. Still no update. Today I called the shipping company who told me they "don't ship to home addresses" and needed to find a different company to pick up the table. It's still sitting in North Carolina, even though I was told it was being shipped last week. I now have no idea who is shipping the table, or any ETA on its arrival. Why would a home furniture store use a shipping company that doesn't deliver to home addresses? I've called the store five times today and couldn't reach anyone. At this point, I've spent too much time babysitting the shipment to NOT HAVE ANY IDEA which company is shipping it, or when it will arrive. Every person I've spoken to has been equally confused. They offered me $100 off my $350 shipping charge, but that doesn't justify this level of disorganization and (frankly) incompetence. Many other retailers carry these brands. I quadruple the comments on the lousy customer service. I tried to purchase a sofa in person at a local, neighborhood home furnishing store. I received false information from Lekker, purchased the sofa and it would not fit in our elevator. We never received the sofa and the store refused to cooperate. From the start I received nothing but poor customer service from the employees at the store. They felt self-important and acted as if they are doing US a favor by being in business. Lekker had some great products, and I had been shopping their for years now. When they opened their online store, I was trilled I could ship start to friends for birthdays, ect. BUT in the past year, their customer service and quality had gone way, WAY down hill. Really, it's not just one thing that's wrong with the store but a combination errors and issues of customer service. I ordered an LSA glass decanter from their website for a house warming party. The order said I should be getting it in 5-7 business days. Five days pass, and no tracking. Seven days pass, and I decide to email asking about it. I'm then told that the item isn't available (despite it being on their website and the 5-7 info I previous got). Great! Thanks for letting me know two days away from the party!! And what's worse is no apology. No offer of compensation. Nothing. POOR customer service! Whenever I come into the store to shop, most of the employees (especially this one woman with brown hair who seems to be there most often) are nice. But I've had several encounters with one of the owners, Curt, that have been most unpleasant. When asking for help or more info, he's often very short and abrasive. More than that, I've seen him yelling at staff when I've been shopping in the store. Regardless of the issue, he should have spoken to them off the floor. Frankly, he should be embarrassed at that kind of unprofessional-ism. I know I was for him. And, as of late, their selection is just not that great. More and more sad hand towels, the same old bamboo items, and Duralex - which is great, but I can get that at William Sonoma. It seems like their buyer has either quit or been fired. They got in some new furniture, but it's WAY over priced compared to other high end stores in the area! read more

Dutch for tasty or good, Lekker is aptly named. A medium sized store with a nice range of price points - the direction is contemporary, with roots in modernism, but not a cold soulless modernism. Here is warmth and wit, texture and refinement. Natalie and Kurt, the owners are friendly and know their products. The only problem? I wish our home wasn't mostly full-up already. But for me a great place for a gift, some new napkins, or when the water glasses are all busted up and mismatched, I know where to head. read more

I love contemporary and elegant home furnishings stores, but Lekker disappointed. Not so much due to its offerings, which were in some cases quite lovely, but more because the prices were absurdly high when the quality and originality wasn't always clear. A good home store has you roaming around, calling out to your companions - 'check this out, isn't it cool?' This one had me and my friend calling to each other to point and laugh at some of the mundane and cheap items that got elevated to "hip" by trendy packaging and a high price. There are some beautiful things, but I would go elsewhere for a greater density of such things. read more

Lekker is one of my favorite stores that I frequent in the south end. Natalie Curt and everyone at Lekker is always friendly, inviting, and accommodating. Not sure why people have given them such sour reviews. I have always been greeted in a friendly manner when I walk in, and love it here so much my husband and I registered for our wedding gifts. You will not find a better selection of well curated items from furniture to dishes to flatware and more. When they did not had an item listed online for our registry they were always sure to put it up, and wonderful to work with. We are about to order a dining room table from Lekker and couldn't be happier to constantly go back to this store. While it may take some time to get certain pieces because they are not made in the US, I can always rest assured that I am getting an amazing item, and they are all well worth the wait. Our friends and family love all of our finds from Lekker and also now frequent this amazing shop! Thanks for all you do. read more
