This was at 2:30 pm and we are leaving at the crack of dawn for a long road trip tomorrow. First called our mechanic of 18 years to find out he just retired, but the new owner could not get us in. We then called Buick, which was a $300 diagnostic fee plus a bunch of other add-on union costs that they refused to guestimate. Then we remembered we have driven by Baker Automotive thousands of times but never thought to go there because we have not had AC problems and had a mechanic ... They were super nice in the phone and said they would get us in despite them closing at 6 pm. When I got there I was surprised to see they are full automotive repair and asked if they could also do an oil change, but only if they had time. They got both done in maybe just over an hour. The mechanic then explained in simple terms how the AC is designed, there is a design flaw, and that there was a recall that they could not verify if it was done. I really like this place. It is so hard to find a mechanic you can trust (a 4.9 rating on Google for 100+ reviews). They are local and prices reasonable ($331 for AC and synthetic oil). Plus they got me in and quickly. Five star service all around, and it turns out, we have a new mechanic.

While I hadn't used Starr since the last century, I was still in their database. They got my brakes overhauled by Tuesday morning, early. They came in 15% under the estimate, and the original estimate was more than reasonable. I miss this place.

I explained that I believed the issue was caused by the neutral safety switch, which is a known and common issue for this model. Instead of inspecting that part, the shop replaced my starter and battery terminal posts, charging me $966. The problem was never fixed -- the Jeep still has the exact same starting issue. When I returned, Starr Auto admitted it might actually be the neutral safety switch and said they could repair it for another $200. That clearly shows the first repair was misdiagnosed and unnecessary. I'm a disabled veteran with VA disabled license plates, and I rely on my vehicle for daily mobility. I trusted this shop to treat me fairly, but instead I feel taken advantage of and disappointed by their lack of professionalism and integrity. I've since filed a credit card dispute for the $966 charge and would strongly caution other customers -- especially veterans -- to avoid this business.

Throughout the process, they were friendly and took the time to listen to me, two more things i didn't get from the dealer. This repair shop is the most dishonest place I've ever been to. The owner is not transparent, rude,…read moreand disrespectful. I requested for an oil change and was quoted $65 and discount of $10 with coupon. Upon picking up, I was told to pay $70 even. I start to question the details but was not given a paper copy to clarify but rather verbally explaining to me about the breakdown of costs that did not add up. Owner said that my Nissan Pathfinder needed more than 5-quart of oil, which is not true. He claimed that $65 quote was just an estimate on my car model, and nothing can be certain until they start to fill the oil. What I don't understand is how can a repair car expert claimed to have 45 years of experience but yet uncertain on the volume of motor oil needed for Nissan Pathfinder. I've changed my own oil and also brought to other repair shops, but never once that I needed or was told that the Nissan Pathfinder needed more than 5 quarts of motor oil. Upon questioning more, the owner gets impatient and started to yell. When I'm about to pay with dissatisfaction, owner pull my key fob aside and insisting that I pay in cash. I protested and commented that the shop clearly showed the acceptance of credit card. The owner told me that he was making me to pay in cash because of my attitude. Not sure why a customer dissatisfaction can be claimed as bad attitude. He simply told me that "now I have your car, what are you going to do about it?" I insisted that credit card is the only form I will pay him. After he ran my credit card, and I get my receipt, I complained that this shop is running a dishonest business and will share my bad experience with all the people I've known. This triggered the owner going ballistic and started yelling again. He even charged towards me and holding on both my arms demanding me to get out. I told him to get his hands off me and not touch me at all. He threatened to call the police on me, which I dared him to do so by questioning what violations have I committed. He kept yelling and told me to get out. When one is caught not being able to explain the unreasonable charges, this person would believe that raising his voice and yelling can somehow justify his dishonesty demeanor. Strongly advise against going to this shop at all costs.
