A lot of dance studios have branched out into Zumba classes, and Celebrity Dance is no exception…read more But I do find their Zumba classes exceptional. I've been enjoying Zumba for more than two years now and I've tried a lot of different classes and instructors. This one hits the spot. The Zumba routines are updated regularly, the instructors are vibrant and educational and really 'get Zumba'. Class sizes are good too, and there's a few classes to choose from during the week (1-2 classes Monday to Friday evenings).

I went along with a friend and was surprised at how welcoming and friendly everyone was. The studio, located in Glengowrie, is used for multipurpose activities but has a complete dance studio with all the bells and whistles. The floor is sanded wood and there is a full wall of mirrors and a barre at the opposite end. We attended a Beginners Ballet class which was good, but I was worried ,as someone with dancing experience, it would be easy and a little boring after a few classes. However, after the first class the teacher was quick to say we would continue to work towards more difficult things and she would work more closely with new people that joined as we went along to catch them up to speed. There was a range of different sorts of people attending, school age, 20 and 30 something's and older, more mature women. There was also a mixture of abilities which didn't make you feel like a loser if you have never done ballet before.

I'd heard about them over the years, but finally shimmied on over to their Hindmarsh studio (in the Serbian Hall) when I got a bargain 10 visit pass from one of those online coupon sites. La Bomba runs an array of Latino Dance classes, including salsa, reggaeton, rueda, zumba and my class; samba. I'll start with the niggly negatives. The hall is RIGHT NEXT TO the Entertainment Centre and not far from Hindmarsh Stadium, which means 8 times out of 10 parking is a biatch! On top of that, parking inspectors love the area on events nights so watch out. I also found it quite off-putting that during classes the woman that checks people in (I think she may be the owner) sits at the back talking and laughing with a bunch of randoms. I think these randoms are advanced dancers that come to freestyle once all us beginner chumps are out of the way, and I can see that it indicates that they have a fab fancy footed community, but for someone who is self conscious and is really proud of herself for walking through the door and giving her booty a shake, having a bunch of experts laughing at the back of the room is not only off putting, but just comes across as really unprofessional. All that being said, my main instructor was LOVELY. She just wanted us to have fun, be confident, enjoy the class and strut like Beyonce. I loved her energy and her instructing style. We did have another instructor a couple of times, and whilst he definitely knew what he was on about, he was much less fun and much stricter... which didn't suit me but I know others would love. Overall, La Bomba is definitely worth a visit if you can get your hands on a magical coupon site pass or you're really into latin dance, but for me I probably wouldn't pay full price. Instead I'm on the search for another spot to give my hips a wiggle. ;)

Actors Ink. I don't get the title, I'll admit it. But if you're in Adelaide for a spell and you've…read moreup and decided you want some training in acting, dancing or singing, or you're a local who's always wanted to become a triple threat, this is the place to do it. The pricing's reasonable; the people are mostly friendly and dedicated; the acting and dancing training, however, allegedly lacks the efficiency and poignancy of other local training groups, such as 'SA Casting'. If you're lucky or talented (or both) enough to get into the 'elite group', you'll be provided with special attention and opportunities to break out into the local entertainment business. My expertise is mainly on the side of the younger demographic, and to my knowledge the students are primarily under the age of sixteen, but there are possibilities for older up-and-comers to receive some attention here. Every term acting students receive the opportunity to showcase their talent to the general public and are given a report on their progress. This is the same for the dancing stream, only the displays occur less often, though the year is ended with a concert. Other than that, it's the usual business here. You won't really want to come to this place on a whim. You have to be dedicated, and put as much work in as the staff. If you can manage that, you're sure to get a lot out of Actors Ink.

What I do want to do is to watch my daughter do ballet in adorable outfits and look super happy and cute: this dance school allows me to achieve the above. As long as I pay my fees on time, my daughter continues to learn jazz and ballet (not tap though, I'm not a monster) and she gets to perform in end of year concert extravaganza's that would rival Sydney Harbour New Year Eve in both size and scope. You may think a kids ballet concert is a cute one and a half our little sing-along: not so. It is a near- militant operation resulting from a great deal of time and money and the result is a four hour show of breathtaking cuteness. The teachers here are experienced, extremely professional, and my daughter has only been there for a year and already looks like a prima ballerina: Go EDAD.

North Adelaide runs a fully equipped gymnasium with separate weights and cardio room. In addition, they have two rooms allocated for fitness classes. They run all of the popular Les Mills classes and a couple of their own including Pilates, Yoga and Kickboxing. They also offer RPM in the cycling room downstairs but I cannot tell you what it's like because RPM is the worst kind of pain ever invented and I rather poke my own eyes out then go. The staff are super friendly and will sit down with you and work out what they can do for you to help with your weight loss and fitness goals. They will also create a personal fitness plan for free and they go through all of the exercises and movements so they can be performed and safely and correctly for the maximum benefits. They also run boot camps and fund raising fitness classes which make for an exciting and uplifting atmosphere, where you really feel welcome. Because of its location there is limited parking which can be a pain in the butt, and the street is also used as a shortcut for traffic coming from the city. So try to avoid peak times and there will be less traffic, more parking, and less sweaty beefy men filling the weights room!
