I have to add a review about their servicing of cameras. Mine is a Leica digital camera that gave me a memory card read error. I took it to my local dealer (I'm in California) who called Leica and verified that they can repair it. The dealer sent it to Leica and then the waiting started. After two months the dealer e-mailed me with details of the quote from Leica. They would do the repair and do a full setup and focus adjust. I approved the repair. More waiting. Finally, after two more months, the dealer contacted me saying Leica returned the camera, unrepaired. The reason was lack of a part and that the camera cannot be repaired. Astonishing! Since then I did an internet search and sent the camera to Kurt's Camera Repair in San Diego whose quoted price is about 60% that of Leica's. read more

STAY AWAY FROM LEICA. I had my camera in for repair since 09-2013, paid for the estimates in 11/2014. Here on 2/20/2014: it is still not done .....for another 2 months. FOLKS: don't repeat my mistake. STAY CLEAR of anything with the name Leica, since they DO NOT BELIEVE in CUSTOMER's SERVICE. VOTE with your feet: walk away. Have used Leica products for 40 years and despite all good interactions they outdid themselves this month. Sent my digital M9P in for cleaning, lube and adjustment prior to selling. Mentioned a mark on sensor. Well, these wonderful folks replaced the sensor even though out of warranty! How's that for standing behind their customers. What's more they did the CLA and replaced the leatherette for no cost. Just don't see many companies who value customers they way leica USA does. read more

Hat's off to Leica USA. I sent in my ASPH zoom eyepiece for cleaning--it had internal spots due to QC issues in Leica's Portugal factory--and they took care of it under warranty even though I had bought the piece second-hand and had no information about its original point of sale. Then they shipped it back next-day air at no cost to me. The eyepiece now looks pristine. That's the way to stand behind your product. Thank you Leica USA. read more

Servicing my Leica M system with Leica Camera was a slow, expensive process, and their customer service was severely lacking. If you'd like to know the details, read on... Customer Service: I found the customer service at Leica NJ to be abysmal. I don't know if it's because they're just busy, or if they just don't care, but it doesn't really matter. Do not expect your calls or emails to be returned. They will contact you with estimates or for payment - that's it. Although I was only in contact with Leica a handful of times over a 3 month period, I seemed to be dealing with a different person each time. This made it nearly impossible to develop a rapport with anyone in particular. Ironically, each person had the words "customer service" attached to their name, leading me to believe they have a large staff dedicated to not helping customers. After finally receiving a call, (unrelated to multiple messages I had left) I used the opportunity to ask some questions, and I felt so grateful to speak to someone that I asked for her name to thank her, only to have her reluctantly give it up with a "tone" in her voice. This was probably because she thought I was only trying to hold her accountable. Imagine that - a customer having expectations from the people he is (over)paying. That person did arrange a call back, which did occur. I do have to acknowledge Beth Hazlett - once the lines of communication were open with her, she dealt with my questions and concerns immediately and completely. She was able to turn what would have been a terrible customer service experience into a somewhat pleasant one. She was conciliatory, and offered a viable solution. Turnaround Time/Billing: I sent my kit (M8 and 2 lenses) away on December 14th, 2016, and it was I received the order at my door on March 10, 2017 - nearly 3 months round trip. Part of the delay had to do with billing. Despite being a Leica owner I am not wealthy, so I had requested that they notify me before charging my credit card so that I could ensure the funds were there. Keeping a credit card clear for 3 months is not easy when you are supporting a family of 5! Needless to say, they did not contact me ahead of time, but after my card had been declined. I transferred the funds I had set aside immediately, but had to hound them for another 2 weeks(!!) to get them to put the transaction through, again worrying all along that the money wouldn't be there by the time they got around to it. Think about this - customer service so bad you have to practically beg them to take your money! Shipping was quick. The package arrived the day before a family trip, which was very fortunate, and I was so excited to be reunited with my camera. But that excitement diminished quickly when I realized that some of the work that was on the invoice had not been completed. After 3 months and a lot of frustration, the last thing I wanted was to have to deal with a customer service issue with these people. At this point, no one has returned my messages. Quality of Service: Which brings me to quality of service. My M8 went in with a blown shutter (only 15,000 actuations, btw!) and was returned to perfect working order - The shutter speed dial even feels snappier and the shutter button seems to depress more cleanly and decisively. My 90 Summicron, however, had did not have all of the invoiced work completed. The engraving was supposed to be restored, and it was not. This may seem petty, but it is the sort of cosmetic thing that will diminish resale value, which is a bit of a pill to swallow after the amount of money I have invested in having the lens serviced. It also makes one wonder what other work (that may not be as easily noticed) was invoiced, yet left incomplete. The other issue with this lens is the aperture ring, which went in feeling a little loose, and came back feeling overtightened and clunky to operate. Again, this may seem small, but quality mechanics is a big part of the Leica ethos, and a little thing like this subtracts from the experience. This is not how you should feel after dropping this much money on a lens and a subsequent CLA. Conclusion: For your own reference, a routine CLA on a lens will run you between $300-350USD. The repair on my camera was over $500USD. When repairs are not under warranty, it is a considerable investment - and some might say foolish one, as the repair cost equals 1/4 of the replacement cost of the item. In the end, Leica NJ is the only certified repair centre in North America, and that leaves the Leica owner little choice. However, the lousy customer service, extensive wait time, and unsatisfactory service make me seriously consider shipping overseas to Leica Germany, or instead taking a loss selling damaged equipment on eBay. read more

I sent my M in to have its meter replaced. Leica took care of it and sorted all the other little issues with the body. I didn't realize my shutter times were also off. It is an 11 year old camera and the refresh from Leica was worth the money. The process was very quick and easy. It is wonderful having a resource like this available. read more

I have loved my Leica like one would love a companion dog that one had purchased as a puppy and has grown over the years into a best friend. And, when the pup previously got sick the neighboring vet took kind care and had the pup returned to his home and family with his tail wagging joyfully and again healthy and well. However, almost two months ago, I took my M9 in for repair and it was sent off to New Jersey to the 'doctor's there to do their remedial work...whilst I lamented and lost sleep waiting for my pal to be returned. I've just received an email note telling me that due to a parts shortage or some sort of problem that my beloved M9 cannot be repaired and returned before the end of this month...which would be three months since it was sent to New Jersey ... it may now be repaired and returned to me - until January or February...four or five months since it was sent to the manufacturer for repair. I wonder is this "the focus (of Leica) where they attest that first and foremost is the needs of the user." Or, is this some large 'hack' non-caring multi-national manufacturer who fixes toasters and blenders? No, it's Leica' of Solms, Germany...explaining that it will take as long as four or more months to repair my beloved M9.
