I don't ever write reviews like this. But after reading all the bad reviews of Legoland in Vaughan... after I had already bought the tickets, had me very worried about what it would be like. But since id already spent the money, i went anyway.
I have a 2 and a 4 year old. They are both VERY active girls who love the outdoors, ride ATVs and snowmobiles and love lego. They know what fun is.
We showed up at 3:30 and on a saturday and walked right in. Everyone on staff was extremely friendly. I even asked if a Technic kit that was in the display cabinet was available for sale and one of the staff called a manager, got the key, removed the kit and sold it to me. And he was happy to do it.
After entering into the discovery centre I will admit, it was busier than I thought. We entered through the mini city... which both my girls though was super cool. The first attraction, the laser game, had a line that was way too long to wait in so we skipped it. We did the "how its made" tour with a really nice young man who treated my kids great. It was pretty lame experience for an adult... but the kids loved it. And guess what, WE WERE HERE FOR THE KIDS... NOT FOR US.
We then entered the larger play area. There were ALOT of kids... my girls, who are used to a far more secluded country lifestyle, were intimated. But not dismayed. we tried to build some cars to race down the track, but there were just too may kids so they both gave up. Then they both tried out the smaller kids slide, which they liked. My youngest wanted to stay there and play with the large rubber blocks and go down the small slide but my oldest was drawn like a magnet to the jungle gym deal... the "Fire Academy". Ill admit, its nothing special really, nothing I havent seen at other play areas... but she loved it. I mean LOVED it. After about 30 minutes my youngest wanted to try it out too and she LOVED it also. They played in that thing for about an hour and a half. My wife and I sat on a bench and talked and watched them. Honesty, it was great... heres why:
Im not a selfish parent who only enjoys taking my kids places that will entertain me as well. Im HAPPY to sit and watch my kids play and have a great time... that in itself is a great time for me. Was legoland an awesome and engaging experience for me or my wife, NO... but I came for my kids and they both came away saying they had the best day ever (which they always say when they've had fun, but in this case they meant it just a little more than usual).
We didnt eat there... I knew the food would be crap and would be expensive, so we went after lunch but before dinner. We didnt expect every attraction to blow us away. Some of the stuff my kids liked, some they didnt.
The girls played in the Lego Friends house for about 5 minutes, got their pictures taken with the Lego Friends life-size statues then We did the merlin ride thing before we left. Long line up but the girls both loved the ride. If we had more time, or if the line was a bit shorter we would have don't it again, but by this point both girls were totally worn out. Neither was disappointed in Legoland in any way.
Positives: great staff, fun activities for a wide age range. relatively easy to supervise your kids. Its an easy place to just let your kids play... I barely had to DO anything at all, they just played on their own.
Negatives: Ill admit, its a bit expensive. I think the big issues here is what alot of other people have said, why do patents have to pay? We don't DO anything. Id be happy to pay the $20 or so for my kids (my youngest was free but id have paid for her if I had to) and maybe an extra $5 per parent. That would be completely reasonable IMO. But this really didnt sour my experience. Many of the attractions looked quite used and worn and alot of things didnt work. it wasn't an issue for us as my kids preferred to just play on the Fire Academy thing and play with the blocks... but from an optical standpoint... for the paying parents, the stuff should all work and be in nice condition. Finally and lastly, too many kids in there. they should have a limit and stick too it. Theres just not enough room for THAT many kids and parents really.
Other than those 3 things, I was happy, my kids were happy and we all felt it was a good time. If your feeling scared off by many of the other reviewers you need to ask yourself WHO your going for. If its your kids and their enjoyment, go... it will be good. If its all about you and weather or not your having fun, don't go. read more
