Sandaya Yakiniku is one of those restaurants that looked fancy and intimidating for the normal…read morefoodie. With its classy interior and Japanese grilled dishes, one will think it is expensive. I tried to steer away every time I visited Fisher Mall. Good thing a friend invited me here for lunch. I had the greatest opportunity to try their dishes.
We met with the owner Avin, and tried their offerings. My other reason for not visiting this place was because I have abstained from beef starting last year. With the cow in their logo, I am pretty sure they specialize in beef. However, the owner was very persuasive in allowing us to try their Japanese style beef stew. It is a soup by the way. When the soup was served, I tried to fight all urges, but the soup was so fragrant, I had to really try it. "Just the soup", I thought. The soup was delicious. It tasted like the beef had been simmering for a day or two. The meat and tripe were also very tender that a person with no teeth will not have a hard time swallowing. The soup itself is a meal in itself and also worthy of a 5.0 review.
Unfortunately, it didn't stop there. We tried the most expensive thing in their menu - the all-beef platter. If you study the anatomy of a cow, most probably all of the edible parts are in the platter. You can eat this with the provided lettuce or with their fluffy rice. I did it with the rice, one spoonful for a piece of those high-quality beef. One unique thing about them is the given sweet and spicy sauce for your beef to dip in as it enhances the flavor of the marinated beef. My favorite among the meat are the hanging steak and inner skirt. If you want to have the experience of cooking, then do it yourself. If you want to relax, you can ask the server to cook the meat for you. The beef platter is worth beyond 5.0.
While waiting for our beef to get cooked, we also tried their Mango and Kani Salad, Spicy Tuna Maki Roll, and Salmon Sashimi. The mango and kani salad is very simple yet tasty and filling. The maki has a great fresh tuna taste with a spicy topping that creates an appetite. The salmon sashimi was also great as it didn't come from the freezer which normal Japanese restaurants would serve.
I committed a sin for eating beef today, but if there is one thing I would do it again, it will probably for these yummy beef from Sandaya.
Aside from beef, they also offer different choice of meats in really good prices, which I can't wait to try next time. Bring your friends and have a good time, because as Sandaya would say: "Great stories begin when you light up the grill" and that's the Sandaya Promise.
