Great basketball league, well managed, good competition, and good local venues, all for a reasonable rate. Fun!

We have tried many different facilities and coaches over the years for my older son and for her and I am truly impressed by the level of attention my daughter is given during well thought and organized camps. Her private instruction is not "cookie cutter" but tailored to meet her needs and enhance her strengths as well as develop new approaches, drills and thought process to her weaknesses. The facilities are spacious with multiple areas for instruction and drill. Even enough room to run infield drills in bad weather with a team! There are multiple instructors for various skills for pitching, hitting, catching and fielding. Instruction does not only focus on the physical aspects of the game (softball in this case) but also mental and preparation. Discussion about nutrition, workouts beyond coaching, and habits also is included as part of helping my athlete be ready to compete. Pure Performance meets the athlete where they are and prescribes a program to help them achieve their goals. I am very impressed with the comprehensive program provided by Pure Performance and it's coaches.

She was struggling with hitting and I knew enough that as a travel player, she passed my ability to help her. She was nervous going in for her first lesson with Coach Ryan - more so when he said I had to stay in the waiting room. After the lesson, Coach Ryan gave me a tour of the facility and sent us home with several drills. On the ride home, I asked my daughter what she thought - she was sold and couldn't wait to go back. She noticed a difference between the start and finish of her lesson based on Coach Ryan's corrections. And although Coach Ryan intimidates her - she never wants to disappoint him - she's excited for every lesson, with no sign of stopping. Last Fall, she moved up to 12U travel as a 10 yr old. The change in ball size was a struggle batting and as a catcher. So, we upped our visits with Coach Ryan but she also started lessons with Coach Morgan. An amazing catching coach, that has helped her with the transition and to excel behind the plate. My daughter lights up whenever she sees Coach Morgan; and although she is drenched in sweat after every lesson, she never wants them to end. In addition to the private lessons, Pure Performance's clinics and camps are great for players of any skill or age. Last summer, I sent both my daughters (the younger plays rec ball) to the summer camp. They do some things as a group but others are based on skill/team age. They had a great time and were never short of stories about the drills, conditioning, games, competitions of the day. They were exhausted but excited for the next day. They enjoyed it so much that they asked to attend again this summer and are bringing friends. We are always on the lookout for new camps and clinics. Overall, I cannot say enough about Pure Performance; the facility, coaches, instructors, camps, clinics, cage/lane rentals. Thank you

This is our first time playing softball and our first time playing this league. One of my…read morepickleball friends reached out to me to join her softball team that consisted of other pickleball players. Most of us hadn't played softball before. I was learning new rules every game. Some of the rules are complicated for sure. We were on the Wednesday league. Most of the regular season games were washed out due to rain almost every Wednesday (unbelievable). They made up some of our games in the end with double headers. They have nice refs each game. Great sportsmanship from almost all the players. We knew we would be getting rings for winning the championship. However, after we won the finals, there was no ring and no email for two weeks. We spoke with players from the advanced league and they informed us that the league operators must have forgotten as they give out the rings immediately after the conclusion of the finals. I reached to their help desk team and sent them our finals report. We received a response with the instructions on how to get our rings and champs t shirt. Rings are awesome. Fits my middle finger and it's nice and heavy. Absolutely worth it. I wish they had given it to us on the finals day as we could have had a nice team picture.

District Sports:…read more I really have enjoyed playing soccer with District sports. I am realizing how much I miss playing soccer in the District Sports leage now in this Covid era where sports are off the table for a bit! Pros: Cost: Only about $80 for a season- not too bad, and probably breaks down to about $10 a game or less. Locations: The fields are pretty conveniently located, not too far to get to. Team captains have a say in what fields are played on, as well as the schedules of the games, and they take into account where players on the teams live. General game conditions: The fields were in good condition. Games were held on both grass and turf fields, and referees for the games seemed competent and always showed up on time. Diversity: There are lots of folks of all different ages and skill levels in this league. The league is coed. The average age is probably 28ish, if I had to guess. There are definitely more men than women in this league. Social element: There is a social element to this league. After wins, many teams go out for drinks or food. Friendships are definitely built in this league. Cons: This con is more of a pro, in some ways. Because the league is coed, but male dominated, there's a rule that asks that at least three female players be on the field at all times, for each team playing. If there are not enough girls, a team has to forfeit the win, regardless of the score. Because of this, sometimes, as a girl, when teams playing games either before or after your scheduled game are short on female players, they will ask you to play for them in their games. If you want to get some extra play in, it is very easy to play for other teams who need female players to have to not forfeit games. You also will get a lot of playing time as a girl in general, because of the way league rules are structured, and because of the general shortage of girl players.

You may want to check out what District Sports has to offer. It's one of the better run amateur adult co-ed soccer leagues. It's a great league to break into the sport. All skills levels are welcomed. There's no "side tackling" and the field is shorter, so you're likely to survive. Soccer is only the beginning. They offer indoor soccer, futsol, frisbee, 7 on 7 soccer, indoor kickball, and basketball. There's plenty to do year round with this league and the fees are very reasonable. If you can sign up with a team, or just walking a meet some new people. Everyone is incredibly friendly, great adult recreational league. And, yes, they do like to party too. Just fyi, if you're very a competitive soccer player, this isn't the league for you.

Today was the season opener, with bouts between the DC DemonCats and the Cherry-Blossom Bombshells. Being a complete n00b to the sport (is roller derby considered a sport?) I appreciated the brief intro demo about the differences between jammers, blockers, and pivots, how scoring works, and what's allowed and not allowed. Even armed with that information, I wasn't prepared for how much actually happens on the rink! If not for the solid announcer, I would have had an even more challenging time keeping up with the fast and furious action. Perhaps not quite as rowdy as the Kastles matches, there was still a respectable crowd cheering everyone on - it didn't seem like there were necessarily fans for any particular team, but just general rooting for everyone. If you've never been out to a bout here, you're long overdue! (Plus, after-party at The Argonaut? Seriously, coolest live entertainment ever!)

Who knew that I was cool and a trendsetter all these years? Anyways, shortly after it's inception, my BFF introduced me to the Charm City Roller Girls, and my socks were completely blown off. Amazing ladies, short jams, and the most uber adorable outfits *ever*. I went up to Baltimore a few times for the bouts but a combination of getting lost *way* to easily - even with a GPS, and an overpacked schedule that doesn't allow for hour long drives each way, put a quick kibosh on me being a regular attendee. So when I found out that the DC had their own roller girls team, how could I not attend?! And down at the Armory? So convenient! Now, I love the DC Roller Girls. They are pretty amazing, very friendly, and adorably cute! They are just as vicious, fast, and fantastic as the CCRGs, but I have to ask...what happened to the cute outfits?!? Scare-Force One would be adorable in a punked out stewardess mini-dress. The DemonCats would be so fetching in cute little pinstripe vests and matching hotpants. And the Cherry Blossom Bombshells...well, let's just say that if anyone from the DCRGs are reading this and are interested in new outfits - call me! I'll sew my little fingers off to make fantastic new kickin' (yet, functional) outfits for you! I'm eagerly anticipating the day that roller derby becomes the #1 sport in the nation!
