Currently been living on a first floor one-bedroom for six months now. Overall positive experience. Staff and management is fantastic in my experience. Property is well kept, landscaping is maintained regularly and at reasonable hours during the day. Friendly/pleasant neighbors; a police officer lived in my building making me feel very safe. Prices are reasonable as well. Only a few issues to mention: my unit has a problem with millipedes (parajulidae). I have yet to discover where they come from for sure but I often find several scattered on the carpet weekly (usually dead) leading me to suspect they fall from the vents in the ceiling and get stuck in the carpet fibers. Also had a slight issue with roach infestations during the late spring and summer. A couple of mechanical issues after I moved in; still having issues with my refrigerator leaking, water heater making very strange/loud sounds when water is running, shower faucet being very janky (its impossible to shower with the water at a comfortable temperature), for a while my front door was sticky and required me to body-slam it in order to get inside (eventually had to fix it myself despite submitting two maintenance requests). These are my only complaints so not bad in my opinion, I think the staffing really saved my opinion of this place because they are just great. I do have to mention one thing that will probably prevent me from renewing my lease: the units do not have a washer/dryer included. They must either be rented (the rental service they partner with is very expensive) or there is a small laundry room with commercial washers that accept coins. This is honestly the worst thing for me. I have had multiple issues using the laundry room because the machines are absolutely awful. On the worst occasion a machine I was using broke down locking my clothes inside. I called a hotline number that was printed on the machine and was told that a technician would come out to repair it in one to three days... So, my clothes and unmentionables were stuck in a public washing machine for more than 24 hours until a mechanic could come fix things. More absurdities with this company but of course that is a separate issue on its own... I have definitely learned my lesson and will never again rent a unit that does not include a washer/dryer. read more

The community was a 5 star until the new neighbor started leaving her dog poop in front of her door multiple times a week. I've complained, yet nothing has been done about it. One bad neighbor can totally ruin a good vibe. The poop stays there for days and everyone has to smell her dog crap. read more

I lived at Legacy at Meridian for about a year and a half and recently moved out for a new job. Overall, my experience at Legacy at Meridian was positive. Lots of pros to living here: 1 - Tina and Monica were always very responsive, kind, and helpful. 2 - I absolutely loved that they brought food trucks every Wednesday in the summer. 3 - The pool was really nice and it was always well maintained. 4 - They threw a lovely holiday party each year with lots of food, alcohol, and a free photo booth. 5 - The gym and laundry room were never fully occupied. There was always plenty of space in the gym and lots of free machines in the laundry room on any day of the week. 6 - Very affordable. I paid between $820-$850 during my time here for a one-bedroom (715 sq ft) apartment in good condition. Something to note is that if you live far from the leasing office, laundry room, gym, and mail room, it can be a hassle to have to drive over every time you need one of those things. I was lucky enough to be in one of the 200 apartments, which was very close to all of that. One complaint I had was that I could always hear the people above me walking. It was usually really loud, but I think it was just because of the way the apartment was built. If I could do it all over again, I would just choose to live on the third floor. I just moved out of the Legacy Apartments yesterday and was a resident for two years. While the location is really nice, my living experience was less than ideal. If you want a really relaxing, easy going living experience, ESPECIALLY with a pet,this is not the place! While living there, my issues first started when I asked Tina to fix pet damages in my apartment. It took the complex three months and they only got fixed because I had to get corporate involved (btw .. Nicole (corporate rep) and Tina (property manager) are best friends so your complaints will get swept under the rug or not handled properly). Also, your $300 pet fee does NOT go toward pet damages. Most apartment complexes use it for damages which is why it's non refundable, but Legacy doesn't. From here, my treatment as a tenant was hell! My car got broken into on the property and I just had to break my lease because one of their, now former maintenance men, kept leaving creepy notes on my door, told me he got my number from the filing cabinet in the office from my file and texted me numerous of times, called me a lot and sent me two inappropriate pictures. Although he was terminated immediately, after I told Tina, she then proceeded to ask me if I wanted to renew my lease at legacy. What a slap in the face. She didn't take the situation serious AT ALL .... but she never took anything serious. Her husband even came to the complex, knocked over paper work in the leasing office, was really loud, acted unruly and even called her a coke whore. Tina clearly is not a favorable person ... anywhere. There were always people at the swimming pool during the time it was open who did not live in the community. This made it hard for residents to go swimming. My apartment was a nice size for my dog and I, but I had a lot of cracks on my high ceiling in the front room, main hallway and bedroom that were never fixed. I've lived at Legacy for 4 years. If I wasn't moving out of the state for a new job opportunity I would absolutely renew my lease. I can't say enough about this special community. Location. I love how close I am to great eateries on HWY 55, grocery stores, convenience stores, gas stations, walking trail (there's a really nice one that basically starts at the entrance of the community by the leasing office and feeds into the Meridian office park), shopping, Southpoint Mall, AMC movie theater, great healthcare, you name it! Anything I need, I can literally get to it in less than a 8 minute drive. Oh and the community is perfectly placed between 2 exits off I-40 (exit 276 and 278). You can get to either exit in about 5 minutes. Traffic has never been much of an issue for me in the mornings. However, the area is changing quickly. Two large neighborhoods are being built near Legacy. So I suspect it will bring with it a lot more traffic in the near future. Amenities. The gym is awesome. There are free weights, 2 ellipticals, 2 treadmills, 2 stationary bikes (in the yoga room), water cooler, weighted balls, and a few other exercise machines for legs and arms. It's not insanely large but I think it's the perfect size for the community. Valet trash and the on-site car cleaning center is great and convenient. Pool and the surrounding area (including the new grill and lounge area) is gorgeous. Awesome food trucks come to the community ever Wednesday evening during the warmer months. Lobby/Clubhouse. Looks awesome! The decor is lovely and inviting. If I had more downtime I would spend more time in there. The only con I can think of is in regards to not being able to rent out the clubhouse. Since I have a 1 bedroom unit, its unfortunate I don't have any options to host small get-togethers near home. Management. Tina and Monica (who recently left), the leasing managers, are very upbeat, sweet and friendly. I can tell they are always busy when I come in to pick up a package. However, they are always cheerful and happy to assist me. Now it does seem like they have quite a bit of turnover with leasing assistants. But each assistant I've encountered (especially Tom who left a few months ago) was always very professional with great customer service. Community. Ok I'll admit I didn't attend many of the community events (pool parties, dinners, winter social events, etc). But it's only because I'm usually very busy. However, the few that I've peeked in on seemed well planned and the staff that attended were very engaging with the residents. It even seems like some of the older (in lease, not age lol) residents had established authentic relationships with the management (including the maintenance crew). Also the community is very quiet and safe. In fact I think it's great for both couples and single people. I have no pets but it also seems to be very pet friendly as well. Maintenance. Out of the 4 years I've lived in my unit I've needed maintenance exactly once. And that was to change the batteries in my smoke detectors in my high vaulted ceiling (perks of the top floor). I don't know about anyone else, but I think that's incredible! Clearly the units are well built with high quality fixtures. Laundry. I am probably one of the few in the community that doesn't own a washer and dryer. But my unit was close enough to the laundry facilities that I really didn't need it. The laundry room is VERY nice. Simple, but nice. It's debit card operated and the machines (4 washers and 4 dryers) are well maintained. They also have a really cute set up of accent chairs and a side table in there if you want to just chill while you wait for your clothes to finish. (Just one of the MANY little things they think about pertaining to the comfort of their residents) Landscape/upkeep. Simply beautiful. I'm not much of a "green" person. I have no plants in my unit. But there's something about driving home from a long day at work and seeing all the beautiful flowers, bushes, trees and manicured lush green lawns! The neighborhood seriously looks like an art piece year-round. Floor plan. I know a lot of people don't say much about floor plans in their apartment reviews because most people have very different opinions on what they like/want/need. However, I think many people care about storage. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment at Legacy. And let me tell you, I had plenty of storage. And I love it! My unit comes with a coat/entry closet, a pantry in the kitchen (plus plenty of cabinets), large exterior enclosed storage off the balcony, extra storage space above the washer/dryer closet (plus the space where the W/D should go if you don't have one) AND a huge walk in closet! They blocked my review on google so I had to come here. They're raising all our rent 200 a month. The manager said it's for the cheap paint they put on the buildings and streets that's already coming up. Last year it was up 100. Don't move here they're greedy. Manager responded and said market rates are why, but charging more isn't how you get and keep customers. Their mortgage didn't go up but they want more profit. I've never seen so many empty apartments. Everyone is leaving this place. A former tenant I talked to yesterday said his was up 300 this year so he had to move. read more

We lived at Legacy for a year. Interactions we had with the administration left a bad taste in our mouths from the get-go. During an in-person tour, we were initially quoted in the $1,400 range for a 2-bedroom 2-bath. We thought that was great, but we wanted to get all the details sent in an email before we signed off on anything. They said to look out for it in the next week or two. Two and a half weeks later we reached out to remind them to send the email. They left a voicemail a few days later claiming they did. None of this would be that big of a deal except, in that three-week period, the price of the apartment increased by about $200/month. We asked if they would honor the word-of-mouth quote they gave us when we toured a few weeks prior. After all, the only reason we didn't sign already was that we wanted the email. They refused, stating we took too long to reply to the email they claim they sent. We checked every folder in every email we've ever used. Nothing! We asked if they could send it again, but they refused. We asked if they could send a screenshot of the email they sent us, but then they claimed they'd deleted all their emails. Oh well. This happens sometimes. We overlooked it because the apartments were "luxury". They weren't. Nothing looked like the apartment we toured. There was white paint speckled all over the floors and carpet. The walls in the living room must've been done by two different painting crews because the top 1/4 was a different color brown than the bottom 3/4 (and it wasn't in a tasteful or purposeful way either. You could see where the paint rollers accidentally went over dry paint. It felt like we were living inside a cappuccino). Also, the cabinets and counters were falling apart. Not only were they peeling, but doors sat awkwardly in their hinges and never closed correctly. The "wood" floors in the bathrooms quickly bulged and became water-logged around the base of the toilets. The A/C units are overdue for replacement. We babied ours so it wouldn't go out in the summer, but it constantly did. There was a weird yellow stain on the living room floor that couldn't be removed. The carpet was replaced so poorly that I cut my feet several times on little metal prongs. This wouldn't be so bad if they didn't constantly send out passive-aggressive emails to the whole neighborhood about things we knew people complained about ( we knew this because we had friends who rented there at the same time and had similar issues as us). I wish I wrote down everything. This is just what I could remember off the top of my head On a more positive note... The maintenance crew is very nice, courteous, and efficient. They did everything they could any time we had an issue. The bathrooms are spacious and we miss having a huge mirror. The floors are solid and soundproof. We never heard our downstairs neighbors, and they said they never heard us. The grounds and pool were always well-maintained. It is a beautiful piece of property to walk around. It's hard to beat where Legacy is located. It is central to everything we are active in. Honestly, most of my issues with this place came from the way the administration interacted with people. Are these luxury apartments? No. Are they nicer than average? Yes. Are they worth $1,600/month? Sort of? Other places charge more and deliver less, but that doesn't mean these are worth $1,600. I'd be willing to bet our apartment, our friend's apartment, and our downstairs neighbor's apartments were outliers considering I don't see a lot of reviews complaining about the same issues we had. I'd like to think I'm wrong, but our friends moved for the same reasons we did. If you don't believe me about the administration try this place out for a few months. You'll see what I mean Edit: Yelp won't let me reply to Legacy's response publicly (or I haven't figured out how to) so I'm writing it here instead. You claim quotes can't be erased, then what happened to ours? Surely that just supports the fact they never sent the email and lied to us about it, right? My boyfriend lived here for a year (so I practically lived here for a year) before we began cohabitation bliss. If you're not still gagging, read on. He and I both got apartments in the same zip code -- so we did a lot of hunting in the area. And I really think Magnolia is the best option. The property is on the newer side and is very well kept -- the units and the grounds. He and I paid the same around in rent -- and though my space was rather larger than his, I would have given that up in exchange for the quieter and significantly more pleasant atmosphere at Magnolia. The pool is up and running (though not heated) year-round. And the office serves a complimentary breakfast buffet on weekdays (a selection of coffee and muffins, bagels, fruit, and/or pastries). There are doggie clean-up stations, and the apartment has sidewalks throughout. The staff was always friendly in passing and knew Phil by name. When it came time for us to relocate to our new house, Phil had to break his lease here. The arrangement was for him to secure a new resident (not necessarily for his unit); he was able to do so -- and actually brought on board not one, but three(!), residents. Which, I think, just goes to show you how winning the property is. If you want to be in SW Durham, consider this place; you'll be close to Hwy 55, I40, and Southpoint. read more

I'm taking the time to write a review based off my experience with the manager, Tonya. When I first came to Legacy At Meridian it was about three years ago and the pricing was really good for the neighborhood. I paid about $775 for a one bedroom and it was a great size and great price and I was very pleased. The manager was first introduced to me then and she had a very pleasant personality. As time has has passed it's time for me to move out and it's about three years later. I've never once been late on rent or caused any issues where I had to be reprimanded by management. When I showed up to do my exit check (which is where you have to do a walk-through with one of the property guys so they can make sure that the apartment has not been damaged) Tonya was there to meet me at the office. She was really offensive in the way she was speaking in regards to my decision to move. She was hostile in her words as she began to tear down the new community that I was moving too. She even went out of her way to say things about the community and how I wouldn't be happy. I found this very unprofessional and it was very offensive because there was really nothing I could do at this point as I had already signed the lease and found someone somewhere where I like the location and the apartment better. We are all entitled to our own opinions but I believe someone in her position probably shouldn't of been so vocal with her opinion on a customer. Im giving one star to the entire community due to experience that I had with her on that particular day. We should watch what we say to one another. My mother always said if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. I think what Tonya should've done was just signed me out smiled and said goodbye but instead she took the time to tear down the decision that I just made to move away from the property. In regards to the apartment I had a one bedroom that sat in the back of the property sitting off of Barbee Road. It was right next to the woods so it was very quiet. The apartment had been upgraded but it was still very old. Some of the aesthetics of the apartment could not be cleaned as the mirrors and things like the carpet and things like the Cabinets were old. The property was doing a good job trying to keep up with competition around by upgrading little things but to be honest they are quite far behind. The Exterior look and the amenities are not up to par with competition in the area. However I will say the location was great and I enjoyed my stay. From the first time we contacted the property regarding availability...and throughout out entire, multi-month stay...we have been treated like family! Although the units are wonderful and Legacy is in a great location, it was really the professionalism and friendliness of Tammy Perry and Lane Kubich that made our time in Durham so special. As a 30-year veteran of the military, my family and I have made dozens of moves around the world. Nobody has even come close to providing the level of service as these two wonderful ladies!! The location is unbeatable with Southpoint mall, grocery stores and so many shopping centers only minutes away. The complex is such an amazing community. My neighbors are quiet, courteous, but most importantly friendly. Almost every time I'm walking my dog around the complex, I can guarantee that I will run into 3-4 smiling faces. We lived at 1520 Magnolia for the last year. I have very mixed feelings about the apartments. The property itself is quite lovely and I am not sure you'll find a better pool anywhere in the area. The apartments themselves are large and I had a huge kitchen (which is a big deal to me). So, why is my review only 2 stars? Well, we had one of those freak apartment happenings which turned me completely off from 1520 and their staff. I was in a ground floor apartment when we first moved in. Every time it rained, our master bedroom closet would smell moldy. I brought this to the attention of the property staff who first dismissed it as "probably being the cat". Well, once the problem got worse (soaking carpet, mold ON the WALLS) the property management took me seriously. Long story short, we were moved out of that apartment and in to a "comparable" unit. The apartment we were moved to was the same floor plan yes, but there were many problems in that apartment (unlevel floors, cracks in the walls, leaks from the windows) and it was in a inferior location to the last apartment (third floor with little parking versus our originally ground floor next to the pool). We were given very little help, yes, the apartment paid for our move, but they didn't go out of their way to do anything to keep us. My final straw was the property manager. The day before our move, she gave us her cell phone number as said to call if there were any problems. She then added "I hope not, because I'm hosting the party and its a Saturday night" ....I'm sorry, I have mold growing in my closet and am being uprooted from my decorated and furnished home because of health issues and you're hoping for me not to ruin your party..... In addendum, the apartment building we moved to was burglarized twice in one month, that was it and we moved out about a month ago. So, the take away is this, if you don't have any issues and get a nice apartment this is a nicer place to live, but pray for no problems, otherwise you'll be very displeased. read more

The community is very nice well kept! The staff is very helpful and tries to make sure your needs are met as best as possible. They actually care and value your opinion, and concerns you may have. Some of the neighbors are nice, some won't speak. The community is very quiet itself but I-40 is super loud, definitely takes time to get use to. I'm a professional, early 40's woman who lived here with my dog for 5 months, I had needed a place that would provide short-term, renewable leases and this was perfect! I thought the apartment was clean, modern, a nice size, and quiet, and that the gym and pool , and laundary room on the property were clean, attractive, and functional. The staff were always friendly and super-efficient. It was the was the easiest lease and move-in/move-out I've every done. The times I needed minor maintainence, the issues were resolved quickly. I am not a full time resident, but I have family living at Legacy at Meridian. I have visited every other month over the last year and stay for several weeks at a time. I have found the staff to be courteous. The grounds are well kept. The maintenance staff are quick to respond to make repairs. The pool area is well taken care of and the water is crystal clear. Legacy at Meridian allows dogs and provide pet areas for each of the 10 buildings. The pet areas are clean as poop bags are provide for residents to pick up after their dogs. The trash pick up and recycling service does make this chore easy. My family and I are very pleased with our experience living here. My complaint is regarding the multiple air conditioning units next to the ground floor bedroom. These units are loud, but eventually during each visit, I acclimate and I'm able to block out the noise as long as my windows are closed. It is impossible to keep the windows open because the AC noise is deafening. Also, the upstair neighbors are heavy walkers and I sometimes expect them to come crashing down. I wonder if the upstair neighbors roll bowling balls in their apartment. If you are thinking of renting, avoid the ground floor. Overall, this is a great place to live. read more
