If you are looking for a salon in Ames, Leedz is always the place to go. I have been getting my hair done by Katia for 2 years now and she never disappoints! She not only does amazing hair, but she strives to build relationships with her clients. If you need a new hair safe space, Katia is always my recommendation!

I always enjoyed coming here especially when I would get my haircuts from Bre. Bre was the only one that could do a proper Fade I was able to get a gold balance between a proper cut on the top since I do have curly hair with the expectations of a fade that I get at my barbers back at home. So when I found out she wasn't there I thought I'd take a chance. So I did, I ended up getting my haircut with Katia and boy do I regret it. I should of just waited for Morgan or someone more capable. Don't get me wrong Katia is nice person but I'm sorry the haircut she left me with was not good, I showed her a couple pictures for reference and she said she could do that. I left fuming, let's start with the price. I left with a $30 choppy cut that left me with a round head. I usually spend $40 for an amazing haircut in Chicago but this doesn't even compare. Let's get in to the hair.... First there was no skin fade, or even the slightest gradual blend between each layer. I asked to make it tight towards the top of my hair and blend the sides, that wasn't done. The sides are not even, one is lower than the other, and the "fade/taper" starts lower than the other. The edges of the top weren't balanced and now are bulkier than the sides. The top, I suggested cutting tips and cutting more off the crown... she didn't do that. Katia also used shears to remove the volume from my sides. I hate that and didn't bother to ask me. Since my hair is curly, shears end up creating more bulk, frizz, and uneven-ness on my hair from my experience. . Luckily, I am writing this as my roommate attempts to salvage what is there.

I started going to Katia for my haircut about a year ago because all my friends recommended her, and I'm so glad I did!

Sydney and the gal who greeted me at the front desk were sweet and professional, luring me back for a follow-up even though I'd sworn to myself that I was only in for one appointment. The experience was so good ~ soothing voice & music, gentle hands, relaxing environment ~ I look forward to treating myself in the future for special occasions. The only downside was my post-treatment payment: The gal who rang me up both times (the salon manager?) was severely unfriendly, knocking me right out of my zen moment. If not for her, 5 stars.

Hayleigh? I'm not sure how it's spelled) at the north Ames location. I just wanted my hair trimmed and a lightened -- balayage, highlights, whatever -- I didn't really care. I always trust my stylist to do what makes the most sense. That's it. Trim the dead ends and make my hair blonder. She seemed confident so I totally trusted her. First, she left me sitting with bleach in my hair for 40 minutes while she LEFT to go eat her dinner. She came back, took my to the sink to shampoo/rinse and put a toner in my hair. She left me there for another 55 minutes (super uncomfortable sitting with your head in a sink for 55 minutes lol) while she left to GO TO THE CAFE ACROSS THE STREET. What? She went to go buy cheesecake with her coworkers. She came back, ate her cheesecake, then came back to me. She washed my hair, blow dried it, and it was awful. My hair was grey and purple. Then she trimmed it, and screwed up the trimming around my face so much I ended up looking like I had a mullet. A grey and purple mullet. Yes. Anywho, I was polite about it but said I was unhappy and surprised by the result. She offered to try and fix it the next day and I declined and just asked to not be charged. They declined my request, and charged me almost twice the amount it said I'd be charged on their website ($113 on their website, and they charged $197). I went to Leedz Salon the next day and they fixed it. They're wizards. Please just go to Leedz instead and stay far away from this place.

I was desperate for a cut and a style, as I was going to Chicago for the weekend with my friends and didn't want to look like a cat who had just been dropped in a bathtub. Without an appointment, I wandered into the Salon, pleaded my case, and they got me in right at that moment! Kari cut my hair that day and I can say that since then, no one has touched the hairs on my head. I only briefly explained to her what I wanted and to my delight, she made it happen. The staff is always nice and in high spirits. They all seem to get along with each other. One thing you will notice when going to the Salon is that the staff all seem to know their clients very well. They are very personable and always focused on their client. The products they use are top of the line and really great. They always make my hair feel so strong and healthy. They also have a very nice selection of cosmetics and will help you pick out shades and products. While I don't have any children, I've seen several kids come in for a cut, and would recommend the Salon to someone with kids. I've mostly seen Josh doing kids cuts and he is so good with them. He makes them feel comfortable and makes jokes with them. I've even heard him tell children that the products he is putting in their hair (mostly detangling spray after washing) is magic. While it's definitely not the place to go if you don't want to drop a pretty penny, I always recommend the Salon to people and will continue to come back for every haircut.
