I've been here twice, and let me first say that I enjoyed the two women who worked on me. While I think the services were over-priced, I did enjoy their attention to detail and conversation. However . . . I went in the first time for a full day of services (facial; manicure; pedicure). The facial room is right beside the pedicure / manicure stations, so no privacy really; and I went there to relax, but every time the front door opened, the slamming noise reverberated into the room; hard to relax. Their colors for shellac manicures and regular pedicures do not match, so I had to get 'close'. They need a better selection of colors. But, as I enjoyed the girls, I sucked it up and made another appointment for my nails to be re-done. The second time everything went fine - took a lot longer than it should have, but the quality was still good. The day before my 3rd appointment, I found out I had customers coming into my own small business at the same time as the appointment (several thousands of dollars worth of sales), so I called to cancel and was told I had to pay half of the services. No wiggle room; no understanding of another small business trying to make money; just demanded a credit card number. I gave it to them - but I will not be back. If the two girls who worked on me ever move salons, I'll go see them. But definitely won't be back to Studio 7 either in their current or new locations. read more

I had a massage scheduled and ended up having to cancel it, unexpectedly. I called in the morning of my appointment and spoke with (I believe) Bethany. She was absolutely the RUDEST front desk staff at a spa I've ever spoken to. I had no clue that there was a cancellation policy if you canceled less than 24hrs before your appt. I wasn't told that over the phone when I made the appointment. So when Bethany told me about the policy, its a very standard policy; no complaints from me about the policy. My complaint is how Bethany handled it. "Well didn't someone tell you the cancellation policy? Well, now you know for next time." Very snotty and very rude. She made me feel like I was lying or being deceptive. I have an appt with Desi in a few weeks that I'm contemplating canceling due to this experience. Very unhappy with Studio7. And I've been here with no problems for a few various services. read more

Coming from Los Angeles, I was thrilled to find a salon that offered sugar waxing. Sure, it is pricey for a college town BUT for people like me that care about quality and giving up other forms of entertainment for such services, it was worth every penny. Chelsea is a sweetheart and helped me overcome some major trauma as a result of mortifying sugar waxing experiences. She was always going above and beyond and so understanding if I had to cut out a few services due to financial reasons (i.e. when I was unemployed). With her method of sugaring, you hardly feel pain (though of course that can vary by person!). Jackie, a newcomer (at the time), is also great at sugar waxing. I have also received haircuts and color from here and had them done by Abby, Brooke, and various others. They have always done a fabulous job and the few times I was unhappy about something (because at first we all know it can take some time explaining what sort of "complex" haircut/style/color we want), they were willing to fix it for a minimal to no charge. Their prices for sugaring and hair services are pretty much on par with any upscale place but you're also paying for the service received (i.e. drinks, snacks, invites to events, etc.). Also, I LOVE the fact that purchasing products here pays for employee education. I would like to address the many reviews complaints about the "hidden" cancellation policy. Most salons have such a policy (at least in big cities all over the world from Asia to the US) and from a business perspective, it's totally vital to have. Unless you have never ever been to a salon, you might not know such a policy exists but just like you would ask at a clothing store of their return policy, one should be asking about a cancellation policy anyway. All in all, whether you're a student or an adult with a job, I would not shy away from this place just because of the price tag. Trust me, comparing it to Los Angeles prices, hair services are SO reasonable and the staff are really nice. If you have had a bad experience here, I'm sorry to hear but I hope you can give this salon another try because it's really an amazing and warm place to be both as a customer and as an employee (or so I've heard!). If it doesn't float your boat, well that's OK but I'll be rooting you find your place soon! It's never easy going to new salons when you move! read more

Only been here once & that was enough. Staff came off like they were annoyed I was there, especially my stylist. I wanted a wash & cut, but when I asked for a wash, she looked at me so appalled. She definitely didn't want to do it and even made me feel guilty for asking. For how much I paid, the service I got was disappointing. I had a really great experience at Studio 7. I have been there for several different services: sugaring, pedicure, manicure, hair color, and toner. All of them have been great. I have never had my hair colored before, and my stylists (Kace) did a great job. She listened to what I wanted and really went through the details of how I wanted things to come out. I came in for a cut, color and lip wax. I ended up with Kelly for my stylist. I was a little wishy-washy about what I wanted done, and Kelly offered up recommendations for both the style and color. Her choices ended up being spot on. She really took her time with the color, which turned out perfect. She also did my lip wax, and did an excellent job. Yes, this salon is a little expensive for Ames, but the service matched the price tag. read more

I visited the spa at Studio 7 to get a bikini wax. I have had tons of them in the past, I have never had one take longer than 20 minutes, maybe 30 at the MOST. It took an HOUR at Studio 7. Waxing is already an unpleasant experience, why would anyone want to prolong it? I will not be returning, there are many other places in Ames with comparable prices and much more professional service. My friends have had their hair done there, and were mostly pleased with the results. So maybe their salon is better than their spa, but I'm not taking my chances after that experience. read more

So I'm a bit on the fence with this place. Sometimes I leave thinking they did an amazing job, and sometimes - not so much. It usually tends to depend (as almost any place does) on the customer service. Sometimes people are really nice, and sometimes they can be downright bitchy. I didn't like that the last time Brianna cut my hair she rushed through the process because she had another person waiting - you probably should not schedule your appointments so close back to back that you only plan on giving an individual 15 minutes of your time. This is not McDonalds, or Super Cuts, if I pay 80+ after products, etc, I expect someone to take their time with me. I didn't like the feeling of being rushed, it felt like "ok done, next, and next". Made the experience feel a bit cheap. But then I've had other stylists that have done an amazing job, so again, I guess it really depends, which is probably why the reason I sometimes choose to go here, and then go somewhere else, and then back. Which sucks, because the place is actually really pretty, and I wish I could just trust my hair with one person. Will re-visit this the next time I go to get my hair done which is actually coming up soon. read more

Went here because it was voted Best in Story County. Initial went for a haircut with a young female stylist there, we'll call her "A". It was fine, no issues. Went back for a highlight and color and the results sucked. The color didn't hit the roots around my face and if I pulled my hair back into a ponytail (which is standard for me) you could see the roots from a mile away. After much arm wrestling, "A" agreed to touch up the spots. Didn't work. She was out of time for the day, and sent me packing, I was to call and set up an appointment to correct at a later time. I did, and I requested and all over color to fix the issue, and she wasn't having it. She wanted to charge me for a new color process despite the fact that her poor work resulted in the issue. Finally, she agreed, it was fixed, but I'm sure as heck never going back there. read more
