I was very very wrong. For context I had just done a big chop on my hair two years prior and in that time it had grown from about two inches in length to chin length. I had never colored it before EVER let alone in the time since I cut it. Alongside it being virgin hair I hadn't been exposed it to heat in over a year. I was doing all that I could to start fresh and minimize damage. As per her pre appointment instructions I did not wash or put product my hair immediately before. About 3 days prior I detangled my hair as best I could in hopes of making the process easier. I was met with the most reckless treatment of my hair I've ever experienced. She was not gentle. As she was late to the appointment and had one after me, she rushed through combing my very tight coily hair from root to tip with no regard for my pain or my hair's resilience. And I'm not even tender-headed! Regarding the result of her work, my hair was the color i asked for in the front and a significantly darker color in the back. I would have ignored all this had it not been for the damage my hair sustained. I've had significant heat and color damage since the appointment. Full sections of my hair have gone completely limp stringy and lifeless. Reminder: this was virgin hair and I didn't go bleach blonde. I went from a natural dark brown to a rusty ginger. But this was still the result. I might have been able to navigate this but the damage is inconsistent even strand per strand. I deal with my hair very gently and it would still easier fall out at a comb or brush. I emailed her a few weeks after my appointment to share my disappointment with the longterm results discreetly to no response. I understand that any chemical or heat process carries some level of risk, damage being the most significant. But I sought out a professional like her specifically to avoid this kind of outcome. I'd like to kindly suggest that if you have type four hair RUN AWAY AND RUN FAR. I cannot speak for her other services but those who wish to do any hair coloring or straightening BE WARNED. You may regret it more than I did.

The stylist said she could lighten it or have an all over color done. I chose to have the all over color as I did not want to damage my hair again. The all over color was free of charge. I called the manager and asked if I could get refunded, even just the difference between the balayage and the single color. I paid $130 to have my hair look the same as it did before BUT now DAMAGED and PATCHY because of the areas that were lightened. I will now have to continue coloring my hair when it fades. Based on this, I was quoted a premium price--an amount I was prepared to pay under the assumption that I would be receiving a service reflective of professional standards and products. However, upon arrival, I was met with several concerning issues. There was only one stylist on duty, and she not even close to finish with her customer. I waited 90 minutes for her to finish. Before my hair was washed, I inquired about the products that would be used, as I am particular about maintaining my hair with professional-grade items. To my surprise, the stylist presented products I had never heard of, and when I voiced my concern, the other stylist (who arrived 45 minutes late for her appointment) openly laughed. My stylist then offered to use Mane and Tail or Head & Shoulders and questioned my objection to them being labeled as professional products. I began to feel apprehensive about the trajectory of the appointment. The situation further deteriorated when the stylist washed my hair using cold water, struggling to get the temperature to a comfortable level. Still, I remained patient. After shampooing, we returned to her station where she prepared to blow-dry my hair. I asked why, as I had clearly requested "flat twists" and shared a photo during the booking process. She responded that she did not know how to do that style. The other stylist, who had booked the appointment, expressed surprise and admitted she assumed her colleague had the necessary skills. What followed was an awkward silence as my wet hair remained untouched. To make matters worse, my stylist then left the salon--without informing me--to purchase food for her child, leaving me alone in the chair. Not knowing when she would return, I began detangling my hair myself. I asked the other stylist for a wet brush; she appeared unfamiliar with the term and later informed me none were available. When I requested sectioning clips, none could be found. I ultimately had to use dusty rubber bands from a shelf to section and detangle my own hair. I informed the remaining stylist that I would be leaving once my original stylist returned. I offered to pay for the shampoo service. She contacted the salon owner, who arrived ten minutes later--still before my stylist returned. I explained the situation, only to be met with a smug "Okay, have a nice day" in response. This experience was not only disappointing, it was deeply unprofessional. Charging high-end salon prices while using subpar products and providing disorganized, dismissive service is unacceptable. I left feeling disrespected, frustrated, and inconvenienced. Clients deserve transparency, respect, and professionalism--especially when paying premium prices. African American women with natural hair often face significant challenges when seeking high-quality hair care services. It is not uncommon to travel long distances and pay premium prices to find stylists who are knowledgeable and respectful of their hair texture. I've never had my hair professionally braided before. She wasn't too rough on my head either! I had her do two Dutch braids with extensions. Was done in about a hour and a half. I had brought my own extensions. Only downsides to getting my hair done by her is that the part down my head is crooked and she was on the phone the whole time. But other than that it was great!

She's very good and I was happy to see her thrive even though she decided to move to JJ salon. We followed her there even though I had qualms about the salon after seeing the pompous and self-congratulatory look of the website. The prices are considerably higher than what we were used to paying but still, we knew we would get good cuts and dyes from Brittany. My friend missed an appointment - her fault, she agrees. She called four minutes away from the salon at her next appointment to apologize and say she was on her way. The receptionist said she would have to make another appontment but before that my friend would have to pay $260.00 to reimburse the salon for two missed appointments. Let me say that again, she was four minutes away and they wanted $260.00 before they would deign to see her. This is ridiculous. The salon is not in LA or NY - not even DC. If they can get over themselves and correct their bad customer treatment I would go back. As it is, I'll miss Brittany's good cuts but I won't indulge that kind of bad behavior.
