We love how they use local ingredients from the community surrounding the distillery to make all of their products. The restaurant is nicely decorated with local oil rig decorations, custom made chairs and tables. By the time the tour was done, it was fairly busy in the restaurant, mainly because they were hosting a concert in their 150 seat venue upstairs. We sat down to try the sample board and then have a bite to eat before the show. I had the burger and fries which were delicious on the first bite. A wonderful charbroiled burger flavor with fresh ingredients and the fries were crispy and golden brown. We will definitely be back to try more menu items and to support their delicious hand made alcohols.

For the berry ones they do them seasonally- they use Evans Cherries in their cherry vodka. Any fruit comes from the local area. And they do lots of local sourcing for their ingredients and collaborations. Double double is their version of Baileys- but better than Baileys! The last time we went they even had a carrot cake chai version and it was so delightful! Sugar beet brum (rum), traditionally made with sugar cane, they use a more local ingredient: Sugar Beets from Southern Alberta. A-freaking-mazing! Such a clear crisp taste, perfect on the rocks. Their wheat comes from across the road at a local farmers: Schneider's Farms. And a family fungi farm grows oyster mushrooms on their spent grain- very cool! They have been open since Oct 2017 officially. In over 700 liquor stores in Alberta. Over 30 products, from vodka, gin, and a line of whiskey. I loved the named areas or equipment - that was adorable and made it really unique! Jelly Bean brewery spot, to the mid still Schatzi. I will definitely be back for some Christmas gift shopping and to bring some friends to their tasting room and gift shop. Nisku isn't that far away! Their space is stunning! I love the outdoor entering area, even a Teepee used for ceremonies. They have a beautiful upstairs area you can rent. And fantastic open taproom dining and of course a great tour area. They have only two appetizers; pretzels and something they called "drift chips" which are probably fries. Inside it's very casual and not particularly large. They use long tables that are similar to picnic tables to accommodate various sizes of groups. There are some smaller tables too, as well as an outside patio. We enjoyed ourselves and the small size of the place kept the atmosphere pleasant. There are several other brew pubs in the area so they have a lot of competition. Before the town of Ponoka was named, it was Siding 14 of the Calgary-Edmonton Railway Company. The name of the brewery celebrates Alberta railway heritage. So cool! I stopped in to do some tasting and fill my growler. If you forget your growler, they sell not only growlers but they also have howlers which are a scaled down versions of a growler. They have cans kept in a cooler if you looking to buy cold beer. You can also have a pint of your favorite beer on tap if that is more your style. The ingredients are locally grown and sourced. Siding 14 is proud to talk about our their beer's journey from Field to Glass. The tasting room is large, and well decorated. The staff was very friendly and inviting. One of the ladies had just started and didn't have a whole ton of product knowledge, but the other employee did, and all my questions were answered. I did a flight taster and picked 4 different brews to try. All were very good. My absolute favorite taster was the Southern Express: Taking Your Minutes, which was a coffee infused stout. Such a good combination! I ended up with a growler of Pullman Pale Ale. A nice easy drinking pale ale. If passing by on highway 2, I highly recommend stopping in at Siding 14 Brewing. I recently made a trip to Canada from Phoenix and had the chance to visit this little modern pub. Each one of our party of four found something perfect to enjoy. Familia features a number of custom brews, but they have some truly great classics on tap as well, from thin crisp seltzers to great golden IPAs to marvelous stout ales. No matter what your taste for beer is, they will have something for you here, from traditional to craft. The location is conveniently placed within the Village shopping area at Pigeon Lake near Falun. The place is newly built, is clean, warm, and even has a nice outdoor patio for the warmer months. It is perfect, warm, and cozy in the winter. The staff is stellar. The owner, Juan, is wonderful to get to know. The prices were very reasonable, and we truly felt like this little brewery was as good as any we had been to throughout the states. If you have tried Familia and enjoy beer, go check them out!
