AVOID THIS PLACE BY ALL MEANS!!!!!! To start, the price may look right compared to the other car rentals, but it's not worth it. Came out to PR in August to visit family. We land, we got our bags, we're waiting for the "shuttle" to pick us up... he missed us 2 fucking times! Literally just sped and left us there!! Not to mention it was hot as fuck. We had a toddler and hella bags! We wound up waiting a whole hour & 20 minutes for the shuttle to get us. They drove us to the place which was like 15 minutes away from the airport. That's not inconvenient at all.......... (sarcasm) So we get there. We had 6 of us. We should've been fine in a 5 seater because my uncle had a truck and he was picking half of us up. Turned out we didn't have enough room. So we wanted to upgrade to a van. It was $565 for a regular Kia 5 seater. EXPLAIN TO ME HOW IT WOULD'VE COSED A WHOLE EXTRA $500 to get a van (2 extra seats). So nope we took the car we had. Fuck that. We drove like my Mexican side of the family and just squished hella of us in the car lmao! Anyways after 2 weeks passed, we go to return the car! Everything was in immaculate condition!! The only thing wS the car was a bit dirty, not by actual things! We cleaned all the garbage, just had a little sand here and there from our few beach trips. Literally not alot! We cleaned most of it. They tried to charge us $480 for cleaning!!!!! What in the actual fuck!!!! AVOID THIS PLACE BY ALL MEANS! Just rent the jeep from across the street. The car rental agency I had used had overbooked but said they had an agreement with Leaseway (next door) to honor my price and car category. Everything went perfectly, and I mean absolutely smoothly. It is a bit of a pain to find when returning but be sure to note your location on GPS and navigate back to that spot, not to any addresses you might find! Gas stations are nearby for refueling when returning. German (it is pronounced "Herman") was quick and efficient at both departure and return. He got us our little econobox but it had bluetooth, satellite, and a great little sound system. It was crazy fuel efficient and zoomy, if not actually fast. Fast was terrifying in this bouncy thing. I took pictures all around before departing. My brother in law and his family were also in PR while we were and we later compared rental car notes. He opted to pay the tolls as he drove to the opposite side of the island and I got the EZ Pass. He said he would get the EZ Pass next time. It isn't hard to pay tolls, just a distraction you really don't need. As we drove back a couple of times at night I can say not having to navigate toll gates at 3AM is a blessing. Chacun a soun gout, if you want to shave a few bucks, give it a whirl. Bro-in-law also got an SUV-type and got tire insurance. He needed it, a minor tire leak from broken glass at a paid beach parking lot. I got the tire insurance as part of a package and did not need it, though I am a bit surprised I didn't have at least two blowouts. Some of the main roads are atrocious. Maintenance is being deferred in a lot of areas. At return I took another set of pictures, so no disagreements. A delightful gentleman who wanted to talk about Donald Trump drove us back to the airport. Tip well, you will be entertained. I had a great experience with Leaseway. I originally made two rental reservations at Payless car rentals on 01/24/2020. My Puerto Rico trip was 02/14/2020. Unfortunately I was unable to pick up the vehicle on the 14th due to flight delays and missing my connecting flight in ATL. I called Payless to inform them about my situation and they stated that I will be able to pick it up on the 15th at 2:30pm. Upon my arrival to Payless they told me they didn't have any cars left. In a joking manner I stated that Puerto Rico hasn't been treating us right due to my airline issues and the lady at the front desk stated that it's not Puerto Rico and that she will be the one telling me no! That there's no cars for me! She was rude about it. The funny thing is they had cars in the back. They also could have told me over the phone when I requested the shuttle to pick us up because they did ask for my name to confirm. I then walked over to Leaseway, their sister company. I was greeted by both Michelle and Emmanuel. They were SOOOO AWESOME, HONEST and VERY EASY GOING. I told them about my problem and they were very understanding and took care of me in a very professional manner. When dropping off the rental they processed me out quickly. The shuttle driver even waited for me when I was processing out. At the end of the day I was highly satisfied with Leaseway and informed them I will be recommending them to friends, family and coworkers for rental cars in Puerto Rico. Keep up the great work and I will be returning there my next trip. Also to keep in mind that for a last minute booking it was a great deal. GREAT JOB! read more

The worst place to rent a vehicle, first they don't take the insurance you buy online, then they make you purchase the insurance with them that it's a lot more than the one online. They lie to your face by telling you that insurance it's full cover. I have lived all my life in Puerto Rico so I know the insurance I should take since the roads here are full of holes. So the obvious thing happened, I had an accident by taking one of the holes in the street which it's hard to avoid. The next day I went to a tire center to change that one tire and they told me that there are three bad tires. I changed two of them the broken one and the flat one. I paid $90 from my pocket to change these tires. (Btw I called before changing the tires and he HERMAN said to bring the receipt) I went to Leaseway on Friday from Ponce to Carolina to claim the money I paid because I paid for a "full cover" insurance. (So I expect a refund) The manager (btw the worst in the world Herman) without any education to attend a complaint, begin to mention the insurance coverage, But when I rented the vehicle I asked if it covered everything and the sales representative said yes, but of course at their convenience. Then the Manager on Friday told me that apparently there is an insurance for tires. They never mentioned this on Wednesday when I rented the car. I spent half of the day in that place and I never heard any of the representatives offering this tire insurance. It is noted that I did the rental of the car for 6 days. I returned it Friday 4 days before I was supposed to return it. I was still charged for the 6 days plus they took my deposit plus an additional charge for allegedly damage to the vehicle to which I did the favor of changing the tires and he randomly found a hole under the car, he knew specifically where to find this I didn't even notice so he knew that was there even before I rented the car. I did them a favor of changing tires I was not supposed to do. This place is the worst and they're a fraud. DON't RENT a vehicle from this place. Minus 10 stars...!!! read more

Stay away from these guys. UTTER NIGHTMARE!!! You get what you pay for is absolutely true here. The customer service is AWFUL. The staff is rude, unhelpful, and disrespectful. Additionally, they lie to your face about their return policy and then act shocked when you get upset because they're trying to overcharge you by 100s of dollars. Also, whatever cheap price you see on the internet when you book the rental, it'll go up by at least double when you arrive. They tack on BS ez pass charges and other nonsense that they say is "mandatory" for all cars. If that's the case, why isn't it listed up front in the pricing? This entire operation is garbage. Terrible company. Criminal organization out to fleece tourist and take advantage of unsuspecting customers. Terrible customer service. Worst experience BY FAR. They advertise cheaper prices, but in the end it comes out to be the same, and whatever pennies you save in the front end, they rob you for in the back when you return the vehicle. Just used them this past week, and I wish on everything that I went with a more reputable company. They hustle you with the insurance and will try to pin previous dents and scratches on you. Complete scam artist. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. And if you do, take pictures/ video. Have your own insurance. They will screw you over. It's a fraudulent company that should be closed down. I fully recommend this company for car rental, their prices are great and affordable. Mr. Angel Sierra was espectacular , he provided great customer service and I thank him because without his help we would if been stranded with our five year old daughter because of Dollar car rental that had cancelled our rental. Do NOT rent from Dollar they are the worse, use Leaseway they are reasonable and understanding. The young gentleman that checks the car before it's given to you was great and helpful. Before my arrival I had read mostly bad reviews about these guys but still decided to give it chance because of how much cheaper it was than the other (and bigger companies). Once I got to SJU I waited for the "NU" shuttle which took forever. Once I arrived I was skeptical from the reviews and especially because my Spanish is terrible. Fortunately for me, they're bilingual. I talked to an agent at the desk about my request (from Expedia) and it was honored. The only bad things were they did not honor the insurance from them so I had to purchase Leaseway's Insurance which was more expensive. From there the agent explained to me all I have to do is call Expedia and they will verify the information with them to refund me on it. Not a problem, they then told me none of the cars had GPS (which I preferred). As I continue the agent suggests that I record a video of the car all around with my phone just incase they try to charge me for damage I didn't do upon return. I took that advice as they explained the returning policy. As it came time to return I showed up later than I was supposed to but called in advance to tell them. Once I got there they told me not to worry about it. The price beat the competitors and the service was exceptional! I know where my next rental will be! read more

Was charged additional insurance upon arriving, because I did not have a copy of my policy (this was never mentioned upon booking the reservation). Additionally, on an island known for it's beautiful beaches, I was charged an additional $60 (by German) upon returning vehicle for 'sand in the car'. In all my years of travel I've never had that happen. Lame way to make money. Stay away. read more

Had a bad experience with this car rental. They say at the end of your rental they will supply you with a free shuttle back to the airport. We took our "free" shuttle and upon arrival he demands a tip. I'm all in favor of tipping but I only have 10s and 20s. He won't let us leave without his tip. 10 dollars for a 2 minute ride. Tips shouldn't be demanded, they're earned. I don't believe you should be obligated to tip for a free shuttle. read more

These guys were great! First, after checking out ALL other car rentals in San Juan, this company was by a few HUNDRED dollars, the least expensive! Their office is close to the airport, and they came and picked us up and dropped us off. Rented for 2 weeks, only cost about $350!! Car was fab, and because of the deplorable condition of PR roads, I took out the tire insurance for $20 for 2 weeks; which came in handy when our tire got a bulge. Stopped in and they automatically just gave us a new car (upgraded too). They speak English VERY well, and are very professional. I'll DEFINITELY use Leaseway of Puerto Rico for next year's vacation. read more

We went to Puerto Rico over the thanksgiving weekend and had initially booked a rental car with Payless Car Rental. Payless has some really negative reviews on Yelp but we went with it anyway because nothing else was available. When we reached the airport, we called them for a pickup ride and they came to pick us up within 10 mins. Once we reached Payless, they told us they were out of cars (it was around 2pm) and we could go to Leaseway Car Rental (just next door) and that they would honor the online quote we had received from Payless. Our experience with Leaseway was flawless! We were carrying our proof of insurance (comprehensive coverage) so did not have to pay extra. The only thing they added was EZ pass for toll roads which was minimal cost. We got a brand new economy car. The service was very prompt and friendly. I highly recommend these guys.
