Beware the Bait and Switch!…read more I reserved a full-sized car for a three-day weekend, hoping for a comfortable vehicle in which I could offer rides to other participants in my event. I arrived for my pickup at a non-busy time. The clerk told me he had a "Nissan Versa," which was brought around. to the front. It looked small, but it did not occur to me that I would not receive the car I reserved. (I noticed there were multiple sets of keys in the drawer, so I can't conclude they were running low on cars.) The car was awful - cramped, and with a majorly uncomfortable seat, and a couple of stalls going downhill right after startup. I came home with a huge backache. As I was off the internet for the weekend, I checked the vehicle size when I got home. It was not the full-sized vehicle I reserved - IT WAS A SUBCOMPACT!!! When I returned the vehicle this morning, I asked for an explanation. I was offered no explanation - only a $15 "discount" from the ripoff price with no adjustment for the $25/day loss damage waiver. I was actually charged for the full-sized car; the scam, it seems, was complete (for now). I filed a customer complaint with Hertz corporate yesterday evening. So far, crickets. Incidentally, while by no means a large enough sample to be scientific, I did note that the male customers were treated with courtesy and respect.

I had a decent experience renting from Dollar at DFW to go to Napa and back. It is a bet of a long…read moretrain ride from the airport to the rental car center. There was a long line at the main counter, but a worker asked if I had a reservation and sent me directly down to the car pick up area. There, at a small booth, I was rapidly assisted by a clerk who was extremely helpful and professional. She answered my questions about whether I needed to buy their toll paying option, and recommended I not. I rented a Chrysler 300c, which was a really nice car. I was a bit disappointed that I could not pick a car from several in the aisle (as with Alamo) but all turned out fine There was a short wait to return the car, but the process was easy. I'd rent from Dollar at SFO again.

When returning the car, the white grouchy middle-aged man tried to charge me for having dog hair in…read morethe car. I asked them to show me the statement in the contract that says I need to pay for it. No where in the contract says I need to pay for this wear and tear. No one verbally told me that there is such a fee when I rented the car. The idiot says it's an obvious fee, that I should have told them I have a dog, and that they can't write everything in the contract. What kind of reasoning is that? I'm supposed to tell him that I will have a dog, stinky passengers, puking kid, tiger, orangutan, or anything that'll dirty the car with me. The guy rudely throws the receipt back to me on the counter and walks away after I told him that he was making me pay for the extra time to wait on the phone with his manager while not checking me out and after I refused to pay if they can't point to the words in the contract of such contractual obligation, not to mention that no one advised me of such fee when I signed the contract to rent. The one star is for another man that checked me in when I picked up the car and allowed me to be on my way quickly. I'm never coming here again. They're idiots.

I am a long time automotive professional. I've been involved in turning automobile lemons into…read morelemonade for a very long time. It's only natural I'd interact with any and all rental car agencies in the Bay Area. Over the years I've worked with Enterprise on both the corporate and branch levels. It's a family owned business and it's a people business long before the subject of the cars comes up. They do business ethically. They treat people courteously. Both clients AND business partners. They do a phenomenal job of communication and they excel at setting expectations and then exceeding them! It's a very hard job. The branches are used to promote staff from within which can lead to a challenge in turnover as Enterprise tends to hire young , intelligent "go getters". This can mean building a relationship only to see it change when a new eager young face comes in. That has been a 20 plus year observation of mine. I build and grow a relationship with an office full of happy young folks that help me operate and function only to watch them move on in their lives. This leads me to the reason for this specific review. That reason is Miss Helen at the San Bruno Branch. I remember the standard Enterprise changing of the guard ceremony where I met Miss Helen. Enterprise has a standard procedure. Departing manager comes and brings the fresh new manager for a meet n greet. This sounds simple. Sounds like common sense. Sounds "like a good idea .." and it is. But I'll tell you. No other company consistently does anything like this. So anyway. Miss Helen was full of enthusiasm and had a genuine demeanor about her as she committed to a fruitful and pleasant working relationship with me and my clients. I've had probably 20 of these meet ups over the years and knew to expect a learning curve. But I got the feeling it'd go well. And it has. Miss Helen will always take my calls and always address my clients concerns or needs as if she was helping her own family. As do all of her staff. It's clear to me that her management style is both effective and infectious. She proves an age old business adage I live by. "You can light a fire under someone and you may get results; light that fire IN THEM and you will get results !" I see it in the tone and feel of the current San Bruno Branch and it's something that's really rad to see in the current state of the world. A mixed bag of young people all working hard to better themselves and their branch while delivering their company promise of "We'll pick you up!" With a smile and some genuine effort and sincerity. In my humble (albeit wordy ) opinion. Miss Helen is an asset that built a team capable of handling anything. Give em a crack at global warming ! Let em see if they can fix the hole in the ozone layer. I personally think they're unstoppable !
