I don't know what the deal is at this branch of Hertz but on every occasion I've used them the staff behind a desk have been unhappy, unfriendly and more often than not, not competent to do what I requested. Today (9.15am on the 17th June 2026) was the latest in a series of unpleasant Customer Service interactions. I am unable to update my credit card details online. I am unable to contact anyone in Customer Service online. I'm a team member on front desk at this location refused to help me with updating my account, and I had to repeat the fact that I wasn't trying to return a car or hire a car because I can do neither of those things until the credit card details on my account are updated four times before the team member stopped asking me if I was trying to do either of those things. When the experience of a business location is so consistently poor, it usually either stems from failures in management, training, or corporate culture. I don't know what the problem is here but I strongly recommend you avoid using Hertz at this location if you can avoid it. read more

Beware the Bait and Switch! I reserved a full-sized car for a three-day weekend, hoping for a comfortable vehicle in which I could offer rides to other participants in my event. I arrived for my pickup at a non-busy time. The clerk told me he had a "Nissan Versa," which was brought around. to the front. It looked small, but it did not occur to me that I would not receive the car I reserved. (I noticed there were multiple sets of keys in the drawer, so I can't conclude they were running low on cars.) The car was awful - cramped, and with a majorly uncomfortable seat, and a couple of stalls going downhill right after startup. I came home with a huge backache. As I was off the internet for the weekend, I checked the vehicle size when I got home. It was not the full-sized vehicle I reserved - IT WAS A SUBCOMPACT!!! When I returned the vehicle this morning, I asked for an explanation. I was offered no explanation - only a $15 "discount" from the ripoff price with no adjustment for the $25/day loss damage waiver. I was actually charged for the full-sized car; the scam, it seems, was complete (for now). I filed a customer complaint with Hertz corporate yesterday evening. So far, crickets. Incidentally, while by no means a large enough sample to be scientific, I did note that the male customers were treated with courtesy and respect. read more

Rented a car from them because my car was in the shop. They say they're pet friendly but when I returned the car with a little bit of hair (as pictured), they charged me $125 for a cleaning fee. 12/23: 1-2pm ~ 5 star for rental but 0 star for the old man with the ignorant and racist remark. Today I was helped by a young man who had helped me with a prior rental a few days before. I picked up a 7-seater earlier (for a Disneyland trip) and assumed that extending it would be cheaper than paying the entire two weeks up front. I was wrong, it was way more expensive. An extension of a day was $200+! I was happy to find a large truck would be available for my trip and decided to book the truck even if it overlapped with my current rental by a day. At the counter I was recognized by the employee and he commented about how he just saw me! I said I know and was about to explain the predicament when the old man (seated behind him) suggested that I'm renting so much because I am probably renting for Uber and because there was a prior incident of a regular customer who had no US citizenship rent for Uber and had a huge accident on their vehicle. I was taken aback with the implications of that comment ( 1. I look like I would be conniving and that I drive an Uber. 2. I look like I don't have my citizenship. 3. I look irresponsible and untrustworthy.) since I am an educated and empowered woman of color and had all positive experiences before with their amazing employee Joanna. I wish I could tell you I spoke up for myself and against this racism but unfortunately I did not and was just shocked by the event and later saddened by the ordeal and my response. Today Im going to have to rethink being taught to "respect my elders" if someone unprovoked and without warning rips into my dignity like that. Truck not ready, prints the contract, wait another 10 plus minutes for the truck. You can hear the water hose stream spraying for ten minutes and then the truck pulls up. Ahh, yeah, explains the truck is at 6/8 full of gas, I was so pissed I forgot to tell the washer it's at 5/8 on a 31 gallon truck. My wife said it smelled like a contractor had been using the truck. Bug splatters on the entire windshield and the washers cleaning technique? Run the wipers so everything gets smeared. This location is the pits for Hertz. read more

Terrible service. Hertz is a partner with my insurance company so when I got in an accident, I was set up with a rental from Hertz. I called this morning to confirm my appointment. They offer an option for the car to be delivered (great!) and because I have no car right now, I opted for that option. I selected a delivery time so that I could be present to provide personal information. I requested my delivery at 2pm. I started to get calls (while in meetings) at 1:30pm and a voicemail from Hertz saying the driver was outside. I responded late because I was in a meeting. They decided to leave at 1:45pm without dropping off the car so I called right away at 2pm. The person I spoke with said they waited for 20 minutes which makes sense but they were 30 min early anyways so I couldn't have been there before the requested time. Anyway, the receptionist said they will call the driver to come back. I waited 10 minutes and no one came. I called again and was told I needed to come pick the car up. I had to call to find out they weren't coming anymore. Not sure what would have happened had I not called to check. Needless to say, I would never rent from this Hertz. read more

I stayed few miles away from the rental location and took Uber to get to Hertz, and I got reimbursed for the trip. Location was busy and Andrew who was a desk agent was helpful and pleasant. There are so many bad reviews for this location, but I see that they were written before the refresh/re-opening of this location. Hertz was initially at this address about four years ago when they were using it solely for the Hertz/Lyft rental program for drivers -- I was one of their very first renters -- and their location for regular customers was down the street at 1333 Old Bayshore. The Lyft program moved to another location, so Hertz left this building, another rental company came in, then they left, and then Hertz closed down its 1333 Old Bayshore location and returned to this building (maybe early 2020?) to serve as its rental location for regular customers AND is back with a totally refreshed, new interior -- and a wonderful manager and staff. Quick backstory: made a reservation here and at the nearby Enterprise, just to compare, since the rates were similar. First visited Enterprise and found their location to be so crazy, packed, rushed and dirty, kinda turned me off. Not a big deal, I'm just there to rent a car, but since I also had the reservation at Hertz just down the street, before just settling on Enterprise I decided to go check 'em out -- and so glad I did. I could instantly tell when I walked inside the place was very clean, bright, new, and the folks at the counter were way nicer, more calm, and more professional than Enterprise. Both the guy that helped me to first get the car, and then the one who checked me back in the next day, were absolutely terrific. Also met the location manager and from his cool demeanor you could tell why the vibe in the location was great. Everyone was great at customer service and were even well dressed (which is what I usually expect from Enterprise but, surprisingly, at that particular location, no). The whole experience was just ... well, refreshing, insofar as car rental places go, and my discount from USAA (member only organization, but there are other discount programs out there) made things even sweeter. DEFINITELY returning here when I need a car again -- and I live in Pacifica, so I'm telling you it's worth the trip when the rates are good. Also, do be forewarned that the rates are generally cheaper Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays, and sometimes Mondays, so if you're flexible I'd definitely play with the dates. Heads up for those flying into SFO: although this is located right next to SFO, this is NOT the airport location, which is at the official airport rental center onsite. This is one of the HLE (Hertz Local Edition) locations and, because it's not on airport property, you are not required to pay the airport surcharge and so the final total turns out to be cheaper here. Your base rate might be cheaper at the airport location but, after all the charges are tacked on, it ends up being more expensive. Trust me, from experience! That being said, there would be no shuttle bus taking you to this location, you'd have to get an Uber here, albeit a very short trip. read more

After Dozens of calls to local car rental agencies, either out of business or horrible customer service, we called Hertz Burlingame. Johana G. Answered our call. She was Wonderful! Excellent customer service from the First call all the way to the end of our almost month long rental. Our car was having major work done. We were stressed out and had no idea if our car could be repaired or how long it might take. Through this entire experience Johana was a kind and calm presence. I can't thank her enough. Hertz is lucky to have her. I will add that we also had a great experience with all the staff we spoke with. Especially the gentleman who brought the car out for us. I made a reservation online and went there to pick up. When I get there, no one wanna to help me and the Manager, is rude and telling me they don't have car and ask me go to the airport for car. at the same time they have few cars parked outside. I'm booking there because I don't want to pay extra in the airport!! I won't go that location anymore. One more thing. Don't really trust those 5 stars reviews below. Rude, unprofessional and predatory! due to the new regional manager Robert, the regional manager has made rude, discriminatory statements as a loyal Hertz Gold member. If you speak up he goes out of his way to add charges to your credit card. Now the location has moved to Old Bayshore Rd and his argumentative style has made it difficult to do business. Our company has been renting for a while with great success until Robert came on board from Central California. Workers have asked us to speak up on their behalf. The workers have apologized and complained about his poor leadership and his refusal to treat loyal customers with respect. He has abused our credit card several times. Made threats and works to inflate rates and refuses to listen to feedback from loyal customers. We have spent well over 15 k in the last year and he said " I don't care... Hertz does not have enough employees... they will never get rid of me... he has made unprofessional comments about gender, race and political assumed affiliation. It is outrageous. Our team has made complaints to head office and hopefully, this good brand will take action to remove this regional manager who makes the customer experience terrible and mistreats his co-workers! read more

Terrible experience. First off, the hours posted here are completely made up. They are only open 9am-5pm. I had reserved a car a month and a half in advance of my scheduled trip. My plane got in late and I arrived at the hertz location at 5:45, only to find out they closed at 5 instead of 6. I had to take an $80 Uber ride to my hotel then again the next morning. When I arrived the next morning, I am told that the vehicle I reserved was rented out since I didn't show up the day before. They then charged me an additional $135 for an "upgrade" even though it was them who rented out my reserved vehicle I had prepaid. This is THE WORST hertz rental location I've ever dealt with. Eric was very helpful in helping me rent a car since my car was in the shop. If there was a zero stars, hands down this company would get it. I need to get my car fixed and my insurance company is using this rental company. I just got off the phone with AAA to complain about them so they know for future business with them. I have never had so much trouble renting a car before until having to deal with this company. It's ridiculous. I had a voicemail Thursday from them but didn't get to call them back until yesterday (Monday) since I was out of town. I had to call them SIX times until I finally was able to get ahold of someone. Six times!!! Mind you, I called six different times between 08:30-16:30. What kind of company doesn't even have a voicemail?! Let me also tell you that I work nightshift, so waking up every few hours to call this rental company, as you can imagine, is super easy. Not. But wait. There's more. I get to my car shop place to drop off my car, and guess what. My rental car isn't there. I told Hertz my car needed to be at the shop at 08:30, which they confirmed. I arrived at 09:30. The car shop place was mad because apparently they are always having these issues with them. Also, the car shop place told me Hertz said they'd have a car there at 09:00. When we called them they said they'd have a car there in 15-20 minutes, but at this point I don't trust them to hold to that and I couldn't afford to wait because again, I work nightshift and my sleep time is valuable. Hertz fraudulently charged my credit and couldn't tell me what they were for. In addition, they fraudulently charge my insurance company for several extra days of rental. Mohammed Noori would not look into the charges and told me to call corporate if I had an issue and hung up on me. They should be reprimanded for stealing from their customers like this. do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. i booked a standard SUV online and came 3 hours later to pick up only for them to tell me that they didn't have the car i booked available. the manager interrupted my conversation and said he had a smaller car. since i was getting a smaller vehicle i asked if the price would be less. during at this time it occurred to me that he didn't have a mask on. when i asked him about it he said he didn't have to use a mask cuz he works in the back. mind you we was standing at the counter NOT the back. and since i called him out on not wearing a mask he said that he no longer had the smaller car available. this place is crap. the place is dirty and the workers are rude thinking they are above the law. if you go go here, make sure you bring lysol spray to disinfect the car, cuz chances are it's not standard clean. and Mo, you wearing a mask is not just for the customers. it's for your staffs safety as well. clearly you show lack of respect for them. read more

This review is for Jackie at your Bayshore Burlingame location. We were getting the run around from our service department who was trying to locate a rental since they're (always) out of loner cars. We were beyond frustrated as they kept trying to put us in any GM car. They're supposed to put us in a car equivalent to our car. Jackie was very helpful & understanding of our situation. She made it happen. Our dealership was going to put us in a base model Chevy Cruz (we have a brand new Cadillac SUV!) Jackie was able to make some calls and work her magic to get us in a Yukon. I went in to find out how to return my rental and was met with extreme rudeness as well as lack of direction and signage. I am a Gold Star member and very loyal to Hertz so this was especially disappointing. It was not well signed showing the return section so I got in line to ask where to return my car and the woman acted like I was a complete idiot and yelled at me that 'it is right over there' and that I was blocking other clients by having my car parked out front. They're so unprofessional in so many level, they make you wait for hours and then they treat you like you don't understand English properly or something. Just horrible! I knew I should've had my coffee before getting the rental while my car got fixed. I zoned out while the representative was talking to me and she acted like I was an idiot. Also, they were EXTREMELY persistent on getting the insurance through them although I declined politely. She kept giving me attitude that I'll be paying XXX amount of dollars if I get any minor damages up until the 5th time she asked me and finally let me swipe my card. Also, with their new policy of "taking their own pictures" before sending you off on your way, I decided to also take my own pictures. So here they are just in case they try to pin the damages on me. Overall, I hope my car doesn't have to do major service again, because I'd rather pay for my own Uber than get a rental car from this place again. DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM HERE!!! Service sucks!! I was referred here through my insurance company, as it was the closest to the body shop, where I dropped off my car. I called the day before I needed a rental to check to see if they will be able to come pick me up from the body shop and give them my authorization number, but the rep on the phone just told me to call in the morning and when I'm at the body shop. Fine, I figure I would just do that, well when I arrived at the body shop in the early morning and called hertz the rep told me they had no drives to pick me up and only full size cars. I had to get to work by 10am and it was already after 9am, having to drive from Burlingame to Santa Clara, it not a great commute in the morning. Anyhow the rep at hertz said I told the person on the phone ( which was me) that they only had full size cars....... what the hell does that mean? I can't rent a full size car??? I took a Uber to the hertz office. When I arrived to the front counter the wasn't friendly, she seemed cold and very unfriendly. I told her I need to rent a car trough my insurance and let me know when you are ready for the confirmation number (she corrected me as it is a authorization number), then she didn't bother to let me know when she was ready and just stood there waited till I asked her if she was ready. Then the rep tells me that they had to put a hold on it??? What does that really mean??? Luckily the manager happen to walk out from his office to the front counter. He went ahead and gave me a full size car since there wasn't anything else so a free upgrade. She didn't even ask how many days I needed it for an assumed I needed it for 5 days. When I return the rental car back to the same hertz office in Burlingame, the same rep was at the front counter. After 1.5 hour in traffic, I arrived 5 mins before closing, I asked if she could stay 5 more minutes while I go fill up the tank as I was stuck in traffic and wasn't familiar with the area on where to get gas. The rep told me that she couldn't stay 5 more mins, and the computer system will not allow her. She is full of shit!! She is the most rude and unprofessional staff I've ever had to deal with! I've worked in retail for over 5 years, so I know what customer service should be and this is far from it!! Chris is friendly & professional. He suggested we can get the fastrek pass in Walgreen so we can save time when you using the bridge & toll. And you know how bad is the traffic in the bay areas. Pick up car in this location save you over $100 dollars or more (depend on how many days you rent a car) compare to the airport pick up. So if you don't mind to take an extra time to take a taxi, you will save your $$$. With the receipt, you get $10 credit back for you taxi ride from airport. It's not a lot but every penny count. They WILL mislead you to sell you. Just know this: If you're there by State Farm while your car is in the shop State Farm DOES cover insurance on the rental. They will tell you "you're not covered by insurance." They justify this misleading statement by telling you their coverage covers any damage valued at LESS than the deductible on your existing coverage. You can verify your coverage in the State Farm up listed under your accounts. Also: 1. Their service was to bring the car to me, but they never answered the phone despite 3 people in-n-out of the office. So I had to walk to them. 2. I had to wait an initial 1.5 hours to get a car at all. 3. They WILL NOT refund your insurance coverage even though it was THEIR lie. Another horrible car rental place, surprise, surprise! read more

Complete disorganization and rude customer service. They rented me a car with expired tags (over 5 months expired). I received a parking ticket #878337762 and notified them and brought the ticket to them. They said they would take care of the ticket and still haven't. It will be due in 2 days and then late and the car is at risk of late fees, getting booted etc. I gave what I thought would be a friendly reminder call to them today regarding the ticket and they were no help at all. Representative on the phone now says there is no way to check with corporate as to when the ticket will be paid or follow as to whether they even got it. Said my only option is to drive all the way back to return the vehicle which is generally a 2-3 hour process because you have to wait in a queue to get a car even if you are lucky to get one when you are there. Had to return to the location to get a new tag on the car and that was a 2 hour process. All of this time no one has apologized for the inconvenience. When I said on the phone today I prefer not to return the car because I don't have 2-3 free hours the representative said there is nothing they can do to follow up. Really??? Understaffed and Disorganized. The car was dirty upon delivery and I had to wash it twice and armor all all parts that needed it before it started looking like a decent vehicle. I spent three hours total waiting. Arrived at 10:30 am and left around 1:30 pm. According to the customer service staff there was only one mechanic on duty. CAREFUL OF THEIR SCAMS! ALWAYS RECORD THE CAR'S FUEL LEVEL AND MILEAGE BEFORE YOU TAKE THE KEYS! I dropped my car off at Subaru for maintenance service, and went to this Hertz to pick up a rental for half the day. The guy told me the rental car is half tank full, so just bring it back at half tank. Tossed me the keys and walked away, didn't bother actually checking the fuel level or odometer reading, but I didn't think much of it. I got in the car and turned it on, the tank was a little over 1/4 tank, not even close to half tank... I thought he was just mistaken and drove the car home to wait for my own car's maintenance to be done. I live about 10 minutes local roads away, so round trip maybe about 15 miles. 4 hours later my car was finished, so I drove the rental to a gas station to fill up about 2 gal, and then drove back to Hertz to drop it off. The guy at the counter said the tank is only 1/4 full, not half. I said that was the exact amount in the car when I picked it up. He held up the tag on the car key like it's a case-turning evidence and said "this tag here reads the car was at half tank, and moreover it looks like you drove 112 miles based on the odometer." I just looked at laughed at him, all I did was took the car home and back. I told him "Ya there's no way I drove 112 miles, the guy didn't even check inside the car when he gave me the keys." He turned around to ask the guy who gave me the car if the tank was half full when he gave me the keys, and without even batting an eye the other guy answered "Yes, it was definitely half tank." Since I had no evidence of the exact condition of the car when I took it off the lot, there wasn't much I can argue against two shady employees trying to con me out of extra miles and gas. Lesson learned: ALWAYS MAKE THEM RECORD THE SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL LEVEL BEFORE YOU TAKE THE KEYS! DON'T GIVE THESE ASSHOLES A CHANCE!
