The main attraction is the cinnamon, sugared chocolate coated twists. It reminds me of my time in Spain. Bring back the mornings of hot coffee and churros while the the wind is blowing and the temperature is below zero. The coffee was, yes very hot! Yippee. The service was lovely and the husband and wife team do a great job chatting with the customers. Apparently this is the first Aunt Lil's in Sydney where it is a chain in Melbourne. No doubt we will see more of this franchise.

If I was ever going to a barbeque or a party, and I didn't know what to bring, I would always stop by Le Palme and pick up a few canolli's. I knew they would be appreciated and devoured. Unfortunately though, Le Palme was recently taken over by new owners, and things have changed significantly. The pastry shop is now a fully-fledged café. The new breakfast/brunch menu runs all day, with pastries, cakes and coffee sold at night. The modest range of breakfast/brunch items now on offer is good, but not great, and a little too expensive at times. E.g. $8.50 for French toast. The cakes and pastries are not of the same quality they once were, and the new menu is okay, but not great. With dozens of cafes already framing Majors Bay Rd, Le Palme should have stuck to what they were good at, and what the customers wanted- pastries and sweets.

I was the only one in the shop and the barista was to pre occupied with drying cutlery then serving customers. After waiting a few minutes, I interrupted him to get some service which seemed to be the catalyst to his bad mood. It then took nearly 15 minutes to get a coffee! An incredibly rude person indeed. We used to frequent this coffee shop a lot, but with the new owners having such rude staff, I think we'll shop somewhere else or if it's the only shop open, drive a bit further to get a coffee. Very disappointing.

This place cops a bad rap for the appallingly rude staff - and this true. The little old lady is the nicest, but the two younger ladies often have a bit of attitude. But you can be like that when your cakes are this great! And in saying that as much as I dislike rude staff, I will continue going here because they're good.

Some of my favourites are the mini sponge cakes, taro buns, donut swirls and surprisingly, the ham and cheese croissants. Service is non-existant, but who cares. It's fun to just wander around, unattended and unsupervised, staring with amazement at the crazy flavor combinations. The majority of the breads are spongy and delicious. But some of them are also really oily. The "naan" is crazy, and made its oily presence known all over my steering wheel. And it was also packed full of onions. I don't know about you, but I've never eaten an onion-flavoured naan before. Not good, but not bad enough to turn me off- there are just too many scrumptious options. Instead, I've learnt a lesson, and will stay away from the flat breads in future.

If it weren't for the Del Mondo sign out the front, I'd swear it was a different place to the charming little establishment I once frequented. Despite the declining quality, Del Mondo still serves a lot of customers. Weekend mornings/ afternoons are especially busy, so be prepared to sit at a recently vacated, dirty, table. And don't expect it to be cleared in a hurry. The service is irritably slow! The "barista", if you can call him that, seemed to have no idea what was going on, and had to ask several times what I had ordered. Is a flat white really that hard to remember? After the fifteen minute wait, I strolled home, sipping on my on my tasteless, lukewarm coffee, vowing, "Never again!"

Inside it was a little bit dull but that doesn't matter when you start to read the menu board. All the menu items suggest bold American flavours. Choose your filling, bread (sourdough or rye) and whether you want it fresh or toasted. I was worried about my sandwich being toast until I was told that they'd add the lettuce afterwards to prevent it from wilting. The food came out quick. My wife asked for soy milk in her coffee which they had run out of. However one of the staff went to the corner store, JUST FOR US, to buy a new carton. I was amazed by this. This truly was a selfless act and to me it defined what great customer service is. Our food came out quickly and tasted amazing. I ordered the hoagie sandwich. I know in The States a hoagie is this massive bread roll sandwich thing, but this being Australia they brought out a toasted sandwich which tasted just like a hoagie. Perfect down to the last bite. The staff are great company and extremely friendly. I want... nay, NEED to come back here to try some of the other sandwiches. A great place for a meal which isn't too heavy but will leave you thoroughly satisfied.
