Great candy selection, including hard to find German black licorice ropes rolled into little wheels. Lots of other licorice flavors too. Local milk in big glass jars. Log rolls of fresh butter. Various local honey, jellies, and jams. Homemade peanut butter ground in-house. Homemade pickles in white tubs. 50 pound sacks of Michigan white potatoes. Jabba the Hut sized hubbard squash. Lots of hidden deals within the frozen food section...six New York bagels @ $3.99...five pounds of pepper-jack breaded chicken breast chunks at $10.99. A special shout-out to the BEST in-store bakery I've ever seen. Most everything is made from scratch; breads, fruit pies, cream pies, fried hand pies in wax paper sleeves, various cookies, donuts, etc. They have the BEST cinnamon rolls and pecan sticky buns on this Earth (see pics). These are worth the drive alone. Note the ingredients are simple with King Arthur flour as the base. Great prices too. One of the best deli hot food counters I've ever seen. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravies, various hot vegetables, etc. Great prices. Looks like grandma made it all. In addition to the deli counter, there is a separate in-store cafeteria selling great lunch style foods like Reuban sandwiches, hamburgers, chicken fingers, fries, soups, etc. They cooked my hamburger in a cast iron pan on an old iron stove. Delicious! Great price too. The staff were extremely polite, helpful, and pleasant. Love the old fashioned check-out counters. They hand bag everything too. CONS: Too far from my home. Cramped aisles. Like any grocery store, not all the prices can compete with Wal-Mart. SUMMARY: Need a break from urban attitude? This is a no-brainer choice. Feels like walking back in time when people were nicer and food was better. Load up and drive out to the country, pretend it's a mini-vacation.

I remember visiting North Carolina and going to Gabe's. I love that it's a discounted bargain store. We pulled up and there's plenty of parking. This store is - odd.. they do carry a wide variety of lightweight home furnishings and decor, seasonal items, beauty, clothing, shoes, housewares, toys, gourmet food items, accessories, and baby stuff.. but it's so disorganized.. it's nearly impossible to look for anything.. it's like if Dollar General and TJ Maxx had a baby- it could be Gabe's.. They occasionally have a few items of interest, yet the displays are awful) yet better than than in comparison to the day they first opened)........but it's always a bit of a eyesore.. it always seems as if the manager needs to straighten the place up.. it is chaos!! Or vest are hit or miss/ sometimes low, occasionally off the mark.. I've seen carhart jackets and j crew pants for decent prices and yet I've looked at tankless candles pretty cedar as much as the original retailer and cheap looking sesdinal decor I can buy at dollar tree at an 1/8th the price.. If you want to go bargain hunting, be prepared to look around awhile- and bring hand sanitizer.. and don't be disappointed that toy couldn't find much because of the disorganized clutter!! Not one time did she have a conversation with me and to be honest, I was putting things back together and in the right box but I digress. The bins are gross. You have to take your "chances" with any box. They have an opening station only after you have bought and paid for the item. Also more money grabs when you use a card regardless if it's debit or credit. Go a few miles south to Brothers. They are honest, up front and genuine. I have…read morefrequented it on and off for years and they always seem to have plenty of stock to chose from: all sizes of socks, many different styles, stuffed animals, car coasters, slippers, some other stuff I'm probably missing. I go here for the socks!! What I like about this store, is the variety of sports related styles, socks for animal lovers, coffee lovers, wildlife, pretty much anything. Prices can range from $10 up a pair-so it can get pricey if your buying for a family. The good part is if you buy 4 or more pairs, you get $1 off each pair. That can be helpful. I ended up getting 4 pairs plus 1 sale pr so my bill was about $48.00. 2 were gifts, so I was ok with that. There's always been only one person behind counter working when I've been there, but they handle well whoever comes in. The quality of any socks I've ever bought there is good and has held up over time. I don't know what return policy is there as I've never had to return any. Socks have been warm and cozy and lasted! 4stars is because of the price. I wouldn't consider this a one $ store.
