I was staying in Concan and needed to get some groceries and was in-between driving ~40 min to Uvalde to HEB or ~15 min to Leakey to come here. The reviews online for this place were not bad so I thought it would be okay, I ended up coming here and it was a big mistake. My boyfriend and I were the only two people wearing masks inside (this was during COVID), and people were not attempting to social distance at all. The selection here was limited (was actually kind of surprised by how much produce they had), and a lot of the items in the freezer/cold section seemed like they had been in there for ages. Some of the deli meats were expired and grey, and other items looked very questionable. After picking up a few items and firewood, our total came out to be over $70 which was ridiculous for the items that we had bought. I am pretty confident that we were overcharged as there were no prices in the store and it was clear that we were from out of town. Once we got back to our cabin, we discovered that some of the frozen goods we bought had severe freezer burn, and ended up tossing half of the things as they smelled funky. We ended up making the drive to HEB and got everything for way cheaper and without the ~ added flavor ~ of potential food poisoning If you just need camping supplies, this is not a bad place to go but DO NOT come here for groceries! read more

Only place to shop for food around town. Pricey but have a lot of fresh veggies, good quality meat (got some ribeyes very delicious) And they have most items needed to cook out. read more

I've lived in this town for ten years, and I'm still looked like I'm a carpetbagger from the north. I left in 2015 to do a time overseas, but what I dreamt about every night was a BBG pie. The Pecan is straight from heaven. I've been to hell in a Chinese alley, had to fight for my life, and this pie is a far from it as it can be. It's heaven. BBG's pies would bring peace to the Middle East. The mercantile has most groceries, but the prices are what you expect for the only grocery in town. Without the pie, it's a two star rating. With the lie, well, it's a four. Elect BBG mayor, bring back the polish priest; and let an old, traveler enjoy heaven on earth a la mode . read more

My family has been coming to Leakey for over 30 years, needless to say we stop in ALOT while we are in town. However this time we were in and BARBARA was SUPER rude to her employees!!! A word of advice Barbara...Either put prices of everything or don't yell at your cashier for asking. I felt SO sorry for the poor cashier. She had to asked Barbara for the prices of 3 items for the customer if front of me. The last time Barbara said" What?!?! I'm trying to stock!!! I think you should be a little more appreciative of your employees who are bringing in YOUR money!!! read more

This is one of two markets in the area (bears meat market is new and just down the road). They are a local favorite and will have just about anything you might need. I appreciate the friendly service! 3 stars because the place feels like it's in disarray when I've shopped there. This is a really good grocery store--surprisingly good considering it is in such a small community. The meat department will cut your steaks to order, and they have frozen seafood. There is enough of a produce department to give you some options. The beer cooler is reasonably well stocked, but the beer prices are like what you would expect from a convenience store. read more

We've been coming to the Frio Canyon for about 10-12 days each year for many years (over 20 years). We stop in for groceries a few times every trip. Well stocked for a small town grocery. The meat market is beyond compare! Come in for steaks, chicken, and/or chops and Charlie & Jake will make sure you have fabulous cuts of excellent meats, and they will treat you right with a smile on their faces that will put a smile on yours, as well. If they aren't there, Irene will take great care of you, too. No, I'm not related to any of them, but I sure enjoy their customer service and friendly attitudes when we're here. The past few years, I don't even shop at home (Houston) for meat for this trip; I just plan to get it at The Mercantile! read more

This store is awesome. They have a surprisingly wide range of goods. A lot of stuff you wouldn't expect to find in such a small town. The produce section is small but adequate, they butcher their own meat on site, and the beer and wine selection is about as good as it gets in the area. The store also has a large section with various farm and ranch supplies, animal goods, etc. read more
