If you're a microbrew enthusiast and on the search while in Paris, you have to visit Le Super Coin. Intimate bar and worth the trip. The bar tender knows his stuff. If you don't speak French, no worries he's fluent enough to help you pick a beer that you like and he even gives good local restaurant advice. Le Supercoin est l'oasis de biere artisanale en Paris! (Pardon, ce clavier americain ici n'a pas des accents). Haha, mais je ne parle pas francais, vraiment. En Anglais: "As good as it gets!" is literally true, in this case! When I visited Paris in mid-April, I was impressed with the pervasiveness of the wine culture - that is, ALL IS WINE. Had I been there with a willing accompaniment, and for more than two nights, I would have certainly dug in with a vengeance. From the looks of the labels (and I have experience judging wine by the label, since I work in a wine shop), plenty of delicious wine can be had for 4-5 euros a bottle. But I was not there to learn what everybody knows! I was there to find the craft beer...and unless I was lied to, Le Supercoin is approximately the THIRD craft beer bar in the whole city. And it had just opened two weeks before! So 5 stars is requisite. Digging deeper...by American standards, the tap selection (3) is small. But these taps produce high-quality, interesting French beer. And the bottle selection is fairly diverse and interesting. I had La Franche Galle (good witbier) and Agent Provocateur Blonde Artisanal (good Belgian-style blonde) on tap, and Brasserie du Mont Saleve Sorachi Ace Bitter (2.5% alc, nominally malted and lusciously single-hopped with Sorachi Ace hops) and Agent Provocateur Cuvee d'Oscar (some kind of vintage ale: intense cherry/plum/fig dried fruit notes morphing into a surprisingly dry wheat-y finish). Those bottled beers were a) marvelous and b) quite distinct from anything I've had in America/Britain. But that's secondary; what matters is Le Supercoin is at the very forefront of Parisian craft beer, working in a MUCH less beer-appreciation-conditioned environment than ours. The environment is casual. The young woman working behind the bar was jovial and spoke pretty good English, which combined with my awful French (I've had plenty of school credits; I should be better) was a lot of fun. Only three beers on tap, but I haven't seen them anywhere else. The rest of the decently long menu of bottles was as unique. I had no idea that there are so many options for French beer. The prices are great, at 3.50 to 4 euros for the small bottles and 7 to 8 for the large ones. Cocktails are 6 euros, if you were fool enough to order one at a craft beer bar. Prices are even better (euro or so off the beer, 4 euros for the cocktails) during happy hour until 20h. We came when there was a live band, and fortunately there was no cover. When they weren't playing, the background music was great. Everyone tries to be polite when they squeeze next to you to order at the bar, and were generally unpretentious thank goodness. Situated downhill and east of Sacre Coeur in the Montmartre area, makes this little beer bar a must visit place. Seating is minimal and patrons tend to drink outside and smoke. Join them by leaning against a van or a window. The beer menu is replete with French craft beer, all priced very reasonably. 8 € for most 75 cl bottles. 4-5 € for a generous imperial pint- or 2.5 € for a 25cl pour. Relaxed atmosphere. I noticed a projector and screen set up, not sure if they play movies, sport, or TV. I was only in for a beer, wish I hadn't eaten so much before visiting. If you're a craft beer lover who finds yourself in Paris, it's well worth the trek out of the main tourist area to Le Super Coin. France is known for its wines, but I was happy to learn that there's a burgeoning craft beer scene in Paris and around France, as well. There are only a few beers on tap, but they have a really stellar bottle selection. Since the French craft beer scene is so small and relatively new, I don't think they export much; coming from the southern California beer scene, every beer on the list was new to me. Here's what we tried: ON TAP: - Train to Mars by Get Radical/Thieriez: a good, but very bitter, hoppy saison - Naive New Beer Pale Ale: solid BOTTLES: - Crazy Horse Che'Reveza: Hoppy hibuscus wheat labeled as a "pink ale." This was really interesting, and I loved it - Teckel Bull Baltic Porter, Brassier du Haut Buëch: tastes like a dark chocolate bar with some smokiness; at 9%, this one might sneak up on you. - Etolie du nord: another hoppy saison from Thieriez; very pleasant. The prices are great compared to other craft beer joints in Paris, so drink up! read more

Best craft beer bar in Paris in terms of price, bartenders, and atmosphere. And beer of course. Great location behind Montmartre in between Jules joffrin and marcadet poissonnier. Been going here since 2013 and it's only gotten better and better. 3 craft brews always on tap, for a year now there's been a Czech beer (kout) plus two French that rotate every week or two. Huge and awesome bottle selection, including deck&donohue and la franche. American style pale ales and IPAs. Lots of knowledge and experience. Also discovered last week that they have a solid but limited whiskey selection. Kind of a grunge rock vibe, great music, cool people. Happy hour 5-8, cheapest craft beer pints in Paris during that time (3.5 for kout, 6 for artisanales). Projector and screen shows football, sometimes people bring video games too. They let you bring in food, and pizza pollino across the street will bring your pizza over when it's ready. read more

A little neighborhood gem and hotspot at Jules Joffrin. Excellent beer list. About 4 on tap, that changes often. Not fancy, a dive feel which is spot on sometimes. No food served but you can bring stuff in from other places if you're hungry which is always fun. Gets crowded fast, so if you're hoping for a spot to sit get thee early. read more

After the Express de Lyon, the Supercoin is to my knowledge the second bar in Paris to begin carrying a credible line up of top quality European and French craft beers on tap and in bottle. A clear focus on local brews with the exception of their house beer which is a delicious classic Czech beer. You won't find Kro or Heineken here... The bar is in part of the emerging scene around Jules Joffrin and behind Montmartre (away from the crowds of tourists in front near Anvers and Pigalle). In spite of the craft beer craze and is starting to hit Paris along with posh pricing, the prices here remain quite reasonable - notably the tap beers and the happy hour that put their prices at roughly the same level as a crappy industrial beer in a typically brasserie nearby. The ambience is clearly a hybrid of hipster beer geeks and neighborhood "football" fans. They have a projector for important matches and sometimes they hook up old school arcade games to the screen for customers to play like Mario Kart. The owner is very sweet but don't let that fool you, she knows her beer and loves her soccer (yes, ok ok it's football). Overall an amazing little bar and worth the trek north on the line 12 metro. Clearly a super coin to go to with a couple friends for a cold one! read more
