This place might be good for lunch or a quick snack (reminiscent of all the tiny open face sandwiches I've eaten I central Europe) but coming here for a heavy dinner is a big mistake. Maybe if you're are a skinny French girl who only eats a salad for dinner, then this place is for you. The food here is good, but I can hardly imagine wanting to eat this stuff in general. She seemed to be on a first name basis with whomever it was on the other end of the line. It was warm enough to sit outside, and we were given the last table on the patio out front. The starters were a mixed bag. I ordered the octopus salad, which was bland and uneventful. My wife ordered an incredibly tasty leek salad with sardines and hazelnuts, which she happily devoured. But the highlight was the mains. I ordered what was basically a New York strip cooked medium rare in a morel mushroom sauce. The steak was cooked to perfection - and on the rarer side - while the sauce was very subtle, but you could still get a bit of that earthy, mushroomy flavor. I'd been craving a dish like this for several days, and it totally hit the spot. My wife's dish may have been even better: cornish hen bathed in a creamy, herb-infused sauce with freshly sautéed shitake mushrooms. My god this was delicious. The hen was amazingly juicy and tender, and generous amounts of rosemary and flat-leaf parsley made this dish explosively flavorful. The potent shitakes were rich and earthy, and perfectly suited/melded with everything else. For dessert, I had this chocolate thing with nougat inside and a nice caramel sauce, while my wife had this thing that was a pile of whipped cream and broken pieces of meringue with raspberries, raspberry coulis, and red currants. I liked mine better, but the wife's was light and refreshing, which suited the summer-like weather. And before we were halfway through our meal, the place was full. We saw the hostess turn away at least a dozen people, so good call on the reservation.

From the looks of the restaurant, it has a down-home, country feel. I guess I was anticipating the food to be average. I had ordered the veggie slaw as an appetizer, the pork shoulder as my main entree, and the roasted white eggplant for dessert. Everything was phenomenal! We had stayed in France for about two weeks and this restaurant was one of my absolute favorites, even including the fine dining restaurants we had eaten at. The wait staff is extremely friendly, knowledgable and helpful. He was very attentive and went above and beyond to make sure our meal was enjoyable. The entire experience was quite lovely. We got inside and there were a few other people dining. At the entrance, they display their aged meats.... I personally think it's kind of weird to put decaying meat on display with fluorescent/mirrored lighting. The workers here don't speak English very well. Even when we were seated, the waiter guy was like "no English menu". Thank you, google translate for saving the day. We tried to order pizza, the guy points to where the pizza oven is... and says "no pizza today" like we were idiots for not noticing that the lights were off in the pizza oven gallery. I ended up getting steak with mashed potatoes. My dad got a salad. My mom got the tapas. The salad and tapas were pretty big. The steak was 3 pieces of pretty rare steak (I ordered medium) with felicitous mashed potatoes and raspberry sauce? Yeah, I've never had steak with raspberry sauce, but I like raspberries so what the heck. The service was pretty non existent. No one checked on us. We finished our bottle of still water and no one brought us another one. I'd think it was a French thing to have bad service like this, but we had lunch at a cafe (not even a restaurant) in the old part of town and had phenomenal service compared to this place.

We asked for more water - that took 20 minutes. Other parties were seated 30 minutes after us and had their food before us. When our food did arrive is was consistently bad. Two items were OK - the two items that are hard to mess up: tagliatelle with butter and a ham & cheese sandwich. We ordered fish for one of our sons, and it was awful. My salad, chicken with artichoke, was cold and a horrible combination of flavors. My husband's coffee never came, but it was on the bill. We went for the seven course lunch. It was preceded by five courses of amuses. The decor was fabulous, both the rooms and the furnishings. Very modern yet comfortable. The service for the first half hour was below horrible. Once they moved you into the second room, the dining room, they got into their stride and service was ok. I'm comfortable with paced French service. This was never paced - it was simply erratic and unprofessional. But the food was remarkable. Each dish combined way too many favors and did them to perfection. Each flavor came through yet none dominated. Serving sizes were large enough to allow one to enjoy the dish fully. Every dish was presented picture perfect, looking like a magazine cover. I've never seen seven courses so well presented. So it was a remarkable meal, one I really enjoyed, yet I have absolutely no desire to ever return.
