I never use an alarm clock and one had been set to go off. In order to unplug it, I would've had to have moved the bed away from the wall. I love Carmel, but this was a very disappointing accommodation, and $190/night! I was definitely fooled by the pictures.

I've been here 3 times now and since I stayed in different rooms each time, I feel very confident to leave an honest review(not requested or asked by staff) Pricing: Very reasonable for the area, cheap pet fee(only 30$ per night) and they welcome large dogs. They also price-match so always book directly with them. They are always quick to answer the phone or messages when booking! Even during off-season, our preferred time to go, there is plenty to do locally with their gorgeous beaches and greenery, and the Calla Lily Valley. Or even just relaxing in your cozy room and doing sunset beach walks. Rooms: Always extremely clean, no bugs, very spacious. Each room literally feels like it's own separate little cottage, with unique decorations and decor. Pictures attached Amenities/Features: Some have different amenities than others so always feel free to ask(my favorite is absolutely the one with heated floors and working fireplace during Winter)! We have always gotten at-least a fridge and microwave, in addition to the soaps, shampoos, conditioner, coffee and creamer. :) They have a vending machine on site for snacks.The tvs always have an HDMI port so if we don't want cable, we can hook up the laptop to watch movies or our game system to play some games! They also have tables/chairs to be able to work if you need to, plenty of outlets as well.They offer complimentary breakfast every morning! Nice spread of fruit, pastries, and yogurts along with tea, coffee, or hot chocolate. I have been during very busy season and off seasons and they are always very well-stocked for their guests and have never seen them run out of breakfast items.They have a sauna and heated pool available as well, and an amazing view of the ocean on the top floor with some seating available if you want to sip your morning coffee and look out at the ocean. Parking has never once been an issue; even during their busy season plenty of parking. And they have a few out front for easy loading/unloading. The building itself is also so gorgeous and whimsical. Their garden is obviously tended to so lovingly and makes for such a peaceful walk. Location: It is less than 20 minute drive from the Bay area with more touristy things like boat/underwater tours, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and vintage/thrift shops. Tons of seafood place. Carmel has tons of pet-friendly shops and eateries so we prefer to be local and have gotten many amazing recommendations from staff along with a map for guidance. The beach is literally less than 15 minute walk from the hotel. Their are nearby parks for nice walks with you or your animal-companion and tons of gorgeous gardens and greeneries as well for pleasant scenery along the way. Staff: I usually have the pleasure of speaking with Carrie when booking and she is such an absolute delight. Always willing to price-match, is always of great help when booking or needing assistance in the room, and always happy to see me and my pup when we stop by and we love her cheeriness!Any worker we see has always been very kind and helpful, recommending local spots and eateries, or providing extra towels and blankets, always willing to give a lil' pet for the pup. They always do an amazing job cleaning and restocking the room or respecting our privacy when we put up the do not disturb sign. Overall, an absolutely great experience each time, and we can't recommend them enough. Me and Paddington can't wait to see you all again!

When we got there, an inn keeper greeted us warmly and gave us a quick tour of the place before showing us to our room. The room was clean and provided everything you would expect from a hotel room (towels, soaps, robes, etc.). I only wish there were more counter space for the bathroom. The breakfast was very good too; they served us a bread pudding with scrambled eggs and bacon. The inn itself had a comforting, vintage feel (without feeling dilapidated). In case you decided to go with one of the less expensive rooms (like I did) the inn also has rooms where you can sit and view the ocean. The inn is located close to the aquarium and local shops, so it was very convenient. Parking was easy to find- there is a parking lot in front of the inn, or you can find plenty of street parking. I found that the parking lot was almost empty when I went a few hours before my check-in time. I would definitely come back here for any future stays. :)

I also really liked Yuri and Casey. They were both lovely and friendly. Cons: The lobby is odd, dark and uninviting. There should be a check in desk and it should be welcoming. There could be a luxury candle burning to make it smell nice. The piano room is strange too. There should be a small bar and lively music or classical music. The sofas should be useable. It should be a place for socializing. The wood burning fireplaces are outdated and should be gas with a switch. My room was nice but smokey because of the fireplace, which I didn't use. Fresh baked cookies in the evening would be nice. Whatever their plans are, I hope the owners make improvements but don't over-modernize.

You are not starved for choice with…read moreaccommodations in Carmel by the Sea, but our group of three seemed to be hitting a bit of a challenge. A room for three didn't seem easy to come by. Most hotels appeared to allow 3 guests in a limited number of rooms and they all came with much higher prices. The Monte Verde has a great location, it's time tested having been around for decades, it was the best of all other options. We did have to book one of their biggest and most expensive rooms. It was room 6, the Family Suite. Up a small flight of stairs, it featured a large main bedroom and bathroom, plus a window lined extension room that featured a day bed, bistro table and chairs, and a second TV. We arrived in town before the established check in time and really only expected to have our bags held until the appointed hour. But the woman at the desk joyfully said she had just checked on our room and that it was ready and that she would check us in! The room was very comfortable. Everyone got their own bed, there was plenty of space to be had everywhere for all our stuff. An extra supply of towels were in easy reach under the sink. A downside was the ceiling fan--it was needed for air circulation but creates a strobe effect when the ceiling lights are on as well. Another was that the only mirror in the entirety of the suite was the one above the sink in the bathroom. Breakfast is included in the form of a delivered basket--English muffin, bagels, yogurt, assorted fresh fruit, and orange juice. It arrives around 8 am and, while that did allow us some extra time to do things to get ready for the day, we were pretty hungry by the time it arrived. Coffee and tea can be made in your guest room. For the fresh brewed version, it is available in the lobby also around 8 am. Overall, the stay was comfortable, quiet and we would return again.
