Like most hotels in the older parts of Paris, located in the 11th Arrondissement, the Le Patio Bastille is a 2 - 3 star hotel with various degrees of renovation on top of an older building. Stayed by myself for 6 nights: ended up being a perfectly satisfactory hotel for the amount paid.
Cost: Booked prepaid via the Citi travel site for $601.37, including $100 off using annual $100 off hotel credit along with 10% back using a Citi credit card. Did not include Paris tourism tax of $39.06, charged directly by the hotel during stay.
General:
- within 10 minute walk from three different Metro stations, including Nation, meaning one can get to any other part of Paris with just one connection.
- 88 rooms, spread across 3 main buildings. Getting around them is not obvious, even by following the signs.
- 24 hour front desk: friendly, English-spoken
- Main building has large breakfast room. Breakfast extra. (17 euros each)
Main Room:
- modern HVAC, with forced air and working thermostat. It was quite chilly in Paris this time of year, and the heating worked quite well.
- lighting was connected to wall switches
- small TV, exclusively French language channels with HDMI input if one has a laptop.
- European only power outlets, no USB inputs. There was one outlet near the desk and one near the bed behind the nightstand.
- Easy to open windows, overlooking nice private courtyard. Carpet, even for kitchenette.
- Full bed with comfortable sheets. newer mattress with lumbar support.
- wi-fi throughout. Decent speed. Did not work with my laptop due to a problem with network configuration.
- rooms are close together. Had loud neighbors couple of nights.
Kitchenette: small space near bed.
- two electric burners, microwave, mini-fridge, sink with faucet, electric water pot to boil water.
- One pot and one pan were given as well.
- Utensils and dishes/glasses/cups for 2 were included, and were replaced with clean ones every day (if dirtied).
- ended up eating multiple meals of french baguette, brick of compte cheese, french butter, and charcuterie that I picked up on the first day (replacing the bread everyday).
Bathroom:
- all fixtures were newer, recently renovated
- Toilet had a bidet
- shower/tub combo.
- old style, wall mounted, powerful hair dryer (see picture)
- Decent water pressure with plenty of hot water.
- piping for renovation was done on the outside of the walls, non-pleasing aesthetics.
Service:
- full daily housekeeping, including changing out towels and replacing dirty dishes. Was a little difficult to have them NOT perform: no do not disturb sign available, and deadbolt lock did not work
- employees were friendly and helpful
Misses:
-- Getting around is a bit of a pain, especially if in the furthest away buildings. The elevator happened to be broken on my first night, and lugging my luggage through multiple stairs (including very narrow spiral staircases which would not be 'to code' in the US)
-- Safety: Deadbolt existed but did not work since the hole in the door frame didn't align. Small elevator that did not feel particularly safe. Very narrow and winding outdoor staircases, slippery when wet. read more
