In the 20's and 30's it was a premier resort location on the French Riviera! Unlike the more famous Riviera beaches of today, the beach at Sablettes is beautiful SAND not rocks or pebbles. The hotel is very luxurious having been totally rebuilt a few years ago by a group of excellent French Hoteliers and rebranded under the Hilton chain as a Curio. We have had many excellent stays at this hotel that was recommended to us by Hilton. The little Galerie restaurant serves excellent food either indoor our outdoor in the garden with beautiful views of the "Deux Fréres" . The chef prepares wonderful cuisine, the wait staff is always friendly, excellent, and multi-lingual. We always enjoy an aperitif afternoons in the garden. It also has a bit of olive oil sorbet on top. It was gorgeous. my fish was less exciting in that it was fish on a banana leaf with a mango topping. Also a beautiful dish. Tonight we shared smoked salmon dredged in sugar and salt, cleaned off, and prepared with light herbs, cucumber, seaweed, and lemon. For the main course I had a specialty, Quimper, a dish of beautifully prepared shrimp with Gnocchi. My husband had a mixed shell fish, mussels, saithe , sea shrimps, tiny roasted potatoes, and sea fruit. For dessert we had coconut pana cota with Martinique rum soaked raisins and pineapple. To drink we split a bottle of local wine. Per usual, our dinner was a very special experience. I highly recommend Le Poisson Rouge . The service is super friendly and lovely. The food is marvellous. They have a seafood platter which they recommend for two people but we ordered one amongst four of us and it was plenty - and it was absolutely delicious! It comes with various sauces but I hardly tried the dipping sauces as the seafood was crunchy and delicious by itself. We then tried 4 different kinds of fishes - which were super fresh and grilled to perfection. I tried the chocolate cake for dessert and it was perfect and my friends tried the fig dessert which was great too! It may seem a little pricey but if you compare with the portions and the quality of the food - I say, its worth it. We made a reservation for a saturday evening but it was fairly empty so I'm guessing you could walk in as well. Definitely going back when I can!
