What a discovery. This was my first time eating at Kanodou and you can be sure it won't be the…read morelast. I love African food & their restaurants but sometimes you crave a restaurant experience while there's a lack there of. Not a Kanodou! You enter a nice interior with dimmed lights that put you at ease & convey intimacy. The restaurant owner Mustafa was the perfect host: he answered every question with a kindness and a smile. He recommended terrific meals to us. The service overall deserves a 10/10, the best I've gotten in an African restaurant thus far. Now comes what you're most interested in: the food & the drinks! I'm not exaggerating when I say heavenly! The juice mocktail was one of the best I've tasted thus far and don't let me start on the Lamb mafe: first time and it was my best choice. The lamb melted in my mouth, this together with a well balanced peanut sauce. Yes! African food in a cozy, quality, intimate & rich setting: the perfect combination!

This very clean and newly updated place advertises the exotic nature of it's menu. It's one of the…read moreonly restaurants I've ever seen (in any country) that presents a variety of dishes typical of different African countries. At least some of the people running it are from Senegal, and the whole fish I ordered was at least as good as my local Senegalese restaurant in the U.S. The vegetable potage I ordered was excellent and not too greasy. Kanadou also had a decent selection of drinks.

What an amazing experience is eating at this small restaurant!…read more The place can be easily missed, as it is squeezed in between the famous rue de Flandres and all the fancy restaurants there. But don't miss it! In fact, this is probably the only restaurant in Brussels you should go and try out :) The menu is a whole new world, with interesting plates from the island of Madagascar. Specialties are the national dish Romazava Royal, and sea food and fish dishes (we tasted a wonderfully spicy scampi salad as a starter). The best is to try the Romazava, but fish version: you will encounter the Mafana, a special herb. I won't tell you more: it's best to discover. But it's worth trying out, if you're not afraid of exotic tastes. The menu is really to discover, and share with each others to try different tastes. All coming well together. As for the service, it is maybe one of the best in Brussels. The restaurant is family owned. In fact, there is only one waiter (a lovely sweet little lady) and one cook (her husband). We were taken care of, talked politely, allowed to be demanding and... especially smiled at! A true luxury in Brussels :) We also took the opportunity to re-discover some of our African geography and history knowledge, in observing the interesting decoration. Simple but engaging. The bill comes out a bit expensive, but totally worth it. We didn't try the cocktails, but I would go for it another time around. All in all, one of the best restaurants I've ever been.

The place is owned and ran by just one guy. He did everything. The ambiance is excellent, and the food was packed with 27 cups of awesomeness. The Madagascar stew and Peanut chicken had so much flavor. The only "downside" if you are American is that he only speaks French, but that was easily overcome with simply pointing at the menu and saying "merci." 100% suggest you give this spot a try for dinner
