Making a reservation was so easy with their website. Went on a Sunday for lunch, it was calm and quiet. Few customers (probably covid related). The decorations were simple and beautiful. The waiter was super nice and he knew the menu well. The menu was simple enough for me to think that everything is made fresh everyday! Everything we ordered was delicious, although, i must say that ordering entrées and the menu is too heavy all were delicious but we got full quickly. I was very impressed with Kokob. I'd been missing Ethiopian and Eritrean food since I moved from Washington DC. Knowing that there isn't a huge community in Brussels, I didn't have particularly high expectations for Kokob. The restaurant was adorable, very clean and tastefully decorated. Service was very good and fast. Most importantly, the food was delicious. We got the combo that had two meat dishes and three veggies, and everything was amazing. The drink selection was good, too. They had a wide selection of regular wine, Ethiopian honey wine, beer, coffee, and tea. Overall, it was a great experience. I have two major complaints that prevent me from giving this place five stars. First off, the combo meals are absurdly expensive. They have combos for minimum two people, charging EUR 20 PER PERSON for a minimum of two people. It was also way too much food, easily enough to feed four people, but if you had four people eating the same combo, you would be paying 80 euros! And yet, I know that the combo option is clearly the best way to enjoy this type of cuisine. To better strategize for next time, I would go with a group of 4-8 people and order menu items individually to share, in order to maximize our value. Secondly, they will not let you take the enjera (bread) home. We had a ton of leftovers that I was eager to take home. First they said that I just couldn't take home anything on the enjera that we'd been eating off of. They said I could take home everything else, including extra enjera, but that the enjera had to be eaten by noon the next day. Then the server consulted with the kitchen and declared that I could not take home any enjera at all. I've taken enjera home many times from restaurants in the U.S. without problems, and Google tells me it will probably stay good in the fridge for 5-7 days. Being denied my leftover enjera really was the worst part of my day. That having been said, all the food was excellent, and I will definitely be back, but I'll probably bring my own container from home to sneak enjera into my purse. read more

I really want to knock off a star for them allowing a guy into the place, selling cheap flashing lights. Not sure why a vendor selling tacky stuff was not challenged... However the food... Oh my sweet lord Jesus! It's that good that I have to use a phrase that I'd never use, just to say how good it was! My wife was miffed that she couldn't order a meal containing meat. Until the food came. She couldn't complain as massive amounts of food was going hand to mouth. She's a picky eater too, no complaints... well there was a moan about being so very full at the end of the meal. If you don't like sharing a communal plate of food, don't eat here! If a waiter showing you how to eat from the communal plate is likely to freak you out, don't eat here! On my last night in BXL, a friend and I found this place walking around Grand Place (since not much else was open nearby). We walked in and were warmly greeted. I have had Ethiopian food in Chicago many a time, but was very excited to try it in a foreign country. We were seated at a small table wedged in between a big senior citizen party and another couple to our right. It took us a while to go through the menu as it was fairly plentiful but we eventually decided on the Discovery Plate (3 meats and 3 veggies). The selection is Chef's choice and they can't tell you what it is until it is made - a little annoying if you aren't keen on surprises. But we were happy with the results. We received a fish item, chicken, and a spicy beef. Veggies included beet root, mung bean, string beans and salad (and cheese)... all were quite delicious! My favorite were the mung bean, beef and fish. On their menu they also have honey wine - which I've never tried before so we had a glass of that. It sounds a lot sweeter than it really is (like a dessert wine), not so much but it definitely has a good kick to it. There were two servers who assisted our table. The second one, who brought out of meal, didn't speak too much English but it was cute when she laid out the dishes and fed the first bite to my friend. Wasn't sure what to expect as I've never had Ethiopian cuisine before. Needless to say, I was very happy with my dinner choice. The portions were incredibly generous. As a solo traveler, it was almost too much (which isn't a bad thing especially as this place caters to groups with its communal dining style!) The food was delicious. I had an eggplant/mushroom dish that was outstanding. The injera was perhaps not my favorite flavor but that's a matter of personal taste. MAKE A RESERVATION. I saw many people turned away during my dinner because there was simply no space between all the reservations. If you want to risk it, I'd come right when they open. read more

Wonderful spot in this small city. First time for us to try Ethiopian food and it was one of the highlights of our stay. The selection of food was impressive and the server was very friendly and explained to us how to order the food and how to use the bread to scoop up the food. There is something very relaxed and intimate about using your fingers to eat. The interior is quirky and trendy with one wall with dried oranges (I think) behind a glass wall. Try to not get lost in the curtains that you step through to get in. We laughed at everyone that did because we had prior so where therefore entitled to. Star drop for the very slow service but as the week progressed we noted that in Brussels servers take a very long time taking your order, getting your food and getting your bill. So expect to give at least 3 hours to dinner in the evening. read more

I was here for a birthday dinner. I loved the food - I don't have a big stomach but got full VERY fast. I did love that we were able to accommodate our party very easily and that the decorations on the walls were different than what I am used to seeing in Brussels. I think this might have been the first time I have had Ethiopian cuisine but not the first time I have had to eat with my hands at a restaurant! It was superb and we enjoyed ourselves very much! Kokob is definitely the place to be if you want to eat Ethiopien . the main dinning room is nicely decorated with wood details on the walls and when you enter there is a nice smell of spices. the other rooms are less decorated and louder for my taste The quality of food and taste are delicious. you have the choice between single main dishes or the chef's selection where you can have a bit of different meat stews and vegetables + salad (always great to start with this option to get to know the different amazing flavours) i went the other day and had the chef's selection menu, we were 5, and i've to say it became bloody expensive for the quantity they served. i know the crepes fill in quite a lot, but still... could increase the quantities a bit more. will try the main dish option and let you know soon :) read more

This was my first time having Ethiopian food. The Key Wot was fantastic! I wasn't a huge fan of the Ethiopian bread (injera). The bread didn't have much taste and the texture was like play-doh (yes, I am very familiar with both the taste and texture of play-doh). Regardless, injera is a required utensil (since silverware is forbidden) so be sure to get an order. Tourist trap indeed! Too expensive and the explanations about what ethiopian food is and how you eat it are forced on yoi even after having declared several times, that we already know it. On top of that we asked for tap water to accompany the several dishes and beer we had ordered, but they insisted on selling us a bottle of water (6€!). Piège pour touristes. One of my favorite restaurants and types of food available in Brussels. First time I had Ethiopian food, was back in the US and I was wowed by the complexity and yet simplicity at the same time! Kokob hits it spot on and I love being able to eat with my hands. The food has a taste different from any other kitchen, with spiced foods. I always take vegetarian options, which are great and involve different kinds of vegetables (spinach, chickpeas, potatoes, etc.) The bread that the food is served on, and provided rolled up on the side, reminds me of a more sour pancake. Best to go in a group! The honey wine is delicious and should be tried. Highly recommended, enjoy returning to a few times a year. read more

Travelled to Brussels to meet with an old friend who suggested we meet at Kobob for dinner then a night of drinks. This was my introduction to Ethiopian food and I was pleasantly surprised. It was winter and after navigating through the thick curtains at the door we entered into the warmth of a brightly lit and cozy room. The selections were fresh and cooked well and I was pleasantly satiated by the end of the meal. The bread was really good and I was surprised at how much you can pack into them and how each is an individual culinary delight! Highly recommended! read more

On our last night in Bruxelles we found this cozy really nice place and decided to get in. It was a wise choice! The staff is really nice and friendly, and the food is amazing! You choose your dish but then you share it with your table on one big piece of injera (their typical bread), with the dishes everyone else ordered too. The Kokob is a great place to eat ethiopian style. Even vegetarians are served perfectly. Take a "set main course" with the choice of 3, 4 or 5 mains plus salad, white cheese and the typical ethiopian bread. You don't get any cutlery, just a big plate in the middle of the table, where you put all parts of the course on. Great experience, nice location, delicious food! Book a table ahead. When you think of Brussels you don't normally think of Ethiopian food. However, this place offers really tasty dishes that are full of flavor. Nice level of spice, which can be difficult to find in Belgium. The injera is really good too, but fills you up so much that you struggle to finish the dishes you've ordered. My only complaint is that when the waiter asked our group if we'd ever eaten at an Ethiopian restaurant and we said no, he picked up a piece of injera, scooped food off the plate at the center of the table, and handed it to me, all with his bare hands. Visit this restaurant last Saturday and was fortunate to get a seat, so if you are hoping to eat after 2000 please book ahead! Anyway, very nice place and plenty to choose from the menu, and very friendly service. The wife and I opted for the Doro wot (spicy chicken drumstick dish) and the . Doro Gomen tibs ( Cubed chicken with spinach and tomato). This all comes with salad, Ethiopian cheese and the Injera bread/dough. We also added in extra rice however this was a bridge to far, and perhaps a little greedy. The presentation was superb. The friendly waitress gave us an overview on the traditional way to eat with your fingers whilst using the Injera to help..a bit of a struggle at first but in the end we got there. The eating with your fingers should not put you off or see as a gimmick as the quality of the food and taste surpasses that. Cost wise for two mains, extra rice, two alcoholic drinks and one coffee was baout 35 euros, and worth it. When I am back in Brussels, I'll certainly be back! read more

Fantastic place. Found this via yelp. Haven't eaten Ethopian for 13 years since I was in DC and this reminded me how great it was. The manger found us a seat quickly even though we hadn't reserved. Even on a Wed night it was full , a good sign. Relaxed decor and chilled out vibe. Unpretentious and better for it . My and a work colleague had the 2 person 'chefs recommendation' platter. About 25 Euros per person. We got a huge tray of about 6 items with a lot of the Ethopian pancakes to dip in the food. All good , especially liked the spinach dish. Can't remember the names of all the dishes but the lamb bereber was great. We finished off the with Ethopian coffee. Only had one small cup and thought we were going to get a re-fill but the coffee was very smooth. Would come back here next time I'm in Brussels. Whether on work or holiday. read more

Used to be my favorite restaurant until they opened a second one called Tourkoul, that's even more amazing. Kokob has spicy food with exiting tastes. Everything is served in the middle of the table and you'll eat with your hands. When everyone leans in over the same dish, a cozy ambiance is created that augment deeper conversations among friends. Not a good place for a date since you'll eat with your hands, but yes a good place to bring your best friends for a good experience and hearty, warm, filling food. read more
