Thank you, Natalia and Christophe for another exceptional Paris stay with Guest Apartment Services…read more(GAS). We rented for five weeks this time and were treated so well by Natalia who took care of everything for us. GAS provide apartments in the center of the city so you won't miss anything that Paris has to offer. They are so welcoming and accommodating, I feel like I'm being greeted by family (only nicer LOL). We keep coming back to this company because they keep excelling.

Guest Apartment Services issued a voucher that referenced a law passed in Paris to help hoteliers by allowing them to hold deposits. The voucher said, "In accordance with the provisions of this order, if this voucher is not used within eighteen (18) months from the date of issue, the customer will be reimbursed for the original amount deposit payment." We were not able to visit during the 18 months and requested the full refund. Christophe Chastel replied, "we can refund now 50% of your original deposit rental." This is in complete violation of the voucher that they issued. The business is not trustworthy unless they do give us the full refund as promised.

The estate is quiet, and yet there are a number of activities within the gates, such as tennis, a pool (open during warm weather), a swing set, and beautiful gardens. The chataux itself exudes the feeling of living in the past, while providing a space where you can still enjoy a reheated pastry from the local bakery. I stayed in the château for a week, and while I loved my time in Paris itself, the château was the absolute highlight of my trip. The on-site caretaker and other residents were welcoming and kind to the woman who spent the entire week butchering their language, and while there were several families staying at the château over the weekend, the place didn't feel crowded in the least. LM was also always available if I needed to contact her about the property. Honestly, I felt like Elizabeth Bennett on holiday during the day, and had the urge to wander the grounds like Catherine Earnshaw had wandered the moors by night. It was perfect. Driving up to the gate felt like something out of a fairy tale. Before reaching the wrought iron gate, you first drive through a tree-lined drive that transports you to another time. Once inside the grounds, the château looms ahead, daunting while simultaneously welcoming. The grounds were perfect for a mist-filled morning breakfast on the terrace, a lazy afternoon spent reading by the pond, or watching the sunset while munching on a pastry gleaned for that very purpose during the day's adventures. The flat itself is lovely. The bathroom is much larger than ones I am used to in Europe, and had a seemingly endless supply of hot water. The kitchen was perfect for the space, and entirely functional. In fact, it was much nicer than my current flat's kitchen! The one bedroom was quite comfortable, and there was plenty of space in the living room for extra sleepers without the space feeling overcrowded at all. What really sold me was how the view outside was seemingly transported into the flat, reflecting off of the shining hard wood floors that lent an antique feeling to the space. I wholeheartedly recommend Château de la Trousse for your next vacation spot. Its reasonable distance from the city affords a space in which you can relax, breathe, and enjoy living. After a busy day touring museums, galleries, and attractions, I loved coming back to such a unique space, away from the hustle I enjoyed during the day, to unwind and watch the sunset over the valley while breathing in the history, and ambiance of the château .

When I called the number on the original email, they informed me that they send an email to Expedia (which I did not book through) and had to have them send me a new email with information to get into the hotel. When we got to the room, we turned the shower on and there was no hot water. We had the water running for at least 20 minutes and there was still no hot water. In addition to the lack of hot water, the water in the shower started leaked all over the bathroom floor soaking the towels. We contacted the hotel and got no response until the next day. In addition to the lack of hot water and leaking shower, the room was disgusting. The bed has multiple different kinds of hairs all over it and a large stain on one of the sides. There was something sticky on the floor, the bathroom accessories were dirty, the toilet seat didn't match the toilet, and there was hair in the shower and on the washcloth in the bathroom. When the hotel finally responded to our complaints the next day, they switched to an automated response and did not address any of our concerns. Because of the condition of the room, we had to book another hotel in the area last minute. overall the worst place I've stayed in Paris with the worst customer service. Do NOT book this place.

They will also send you picture instructions to get through the building to your apartment. There is no reception desk there when you arrive and you won't see anyone for service during your stay. We ran into a couple that didn't complete this and couldn't get into their apartment; I tried to tell them that they probably didn't have a reservation then because the paperwork was not completed and that point was clearly stated on the instructions. I don't think they understood me. WS offers an unsecured free WiFi so beware of that when using their WiFi service. And it seemed to be limited in connection as we could only get two devices to connect at any time on it. The room was nice (disclosure: pictures were from when we were leaving so the beds were a bit more tidy at arrival). I have stayed in a hotel before in Paris and this apartment was by far more spacious than my last stay. The windows are opaque glass so you definitely have privacy during your stay. The place was well heated too for 50 degree November weather. There is no laundry service here so no one takes out the garbage or makes your bed for you each day. It is a true apartment living while in Paris. On our first night we had the pipe behind the toilet leak and it ran into our bathroom floor. There was an odor to the water so it must have been the pipe going out to the sewer even though the water was clear. I emailed the contact to inform WS but I think I was just lucky that Monday was the next day as I ran into their maintenance men on a quick stop back to the apartment and was able to tell them about the plumbing issue. I was also lucky that one of them spoke Portuguese and understood my Spanish. Needless to say they fixed the problem, gave me new towels to replace the ones I had to use on the floor and never had another plumbing problem the rest of my stay. I also never heard back from WS via email to check on the reported problem either.

Yet when we stepped out the front door we were in the middle of the bustling Left Bank neighborhood of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, with patisseries and shops and galleries by day and a lively night life along cafe-lined blocks with indoor and outdoor dining, imbibing, and people-watching. The place at 29 Rue Mazarine is situated at a crossroads of quaint streets where Romans lived; where royalty dined (and some met the guillotine!); where politicians and intellectuals from Voltaire to Franklin debated in restaurants; and where today there are no less than two Michelin-starred restaurants on our block! Well-worn stairs lead from the building's half-millenium-old stone foundation to the fourth-floor walkup studio, which has all the fascinating and funky aspects of a building with stories to tell: the exposed beams, the scent of old brick; the convoluted pipes and wires and minuscule storage space. The place was a bit rough around the edges, for sure; amenities and elbow room were spare. We didn't mind! The price was extremely reasonable, the bed was comfy, the teeny kitchen functioned just fine, and the shower water was plenty hot. It ticked the boxes for us. Like all the locals we met, our landlord, Thierry, made us feel truly welcome. He replied promptly to our questions and provided helpful information about logistics, eateries, navigating the city, etc. It's hard to imagine a better spot from which to fan out across the city. Walk two blocks to the beautiful Seine, and cross the famous pedestrian bridges to the Louvre and to Notre Dame, a 15-minute stroll at most. Incredibly, there are three clean, well-lit Métro stations just blocks from the studio, with trains arriving reliably every few minutes! For three weeks in the early spring, we traversed the city, immersing ourselves in art, architecture, and history: twice at the Louvre, as well as at Musée d'Orsay, Musée Carnavalet, Musée de l'Orangeries, Musée Marmottan, plus so many churches palaces and churches. A breathtaking day trip to Versailles was a 40-minute no-change train ride away. We got to know some lovely servers at Café d'auteur, Le Mazarin, Maison Sauvage, Café Paul, Café de Paris, and Smith's Bakery! We ate at Procope, the city's oldest restaurant, and many other wonderful eateries all over the city. And on days when we'd exhausted ourselves from walking, we simply dined on baguettes, cheese, and wine from shops around the corner, including the organic grocery store right next door. Having an affordable place to stay in a perfect location allowed us to relax and enjoy the city's magnificence. We definitely would stay at 29 Rue Mazarine again! -- Susan and Warren

Luckily I speak French and had local friends to advocate for me, regarding what I experienced during my one month stay here in February 2023. And I can imagine the nightmare it would be for those who don't even speak French or even first timers to Paris. After being rerouted from VRBO site, I fell into the trap of Mr. Thierry Farcy (the proprietor/landlord of the studio 29 Rue Mazarine). We signed a contract together (through his own rental site), and I reserved this studio for 28 nights with this seemingly charming rental in the neighborhood I cherish and know quite well. I then discovered not only RAT INFESTATION thoughout the building (Rats at night making noise all night, heard from my 4th floor window), which I reported to him but to no avail. He did not seem too concerned about my question as to why there are rodents down in the courtyard keeping me up at night. And then one night, as I came home, I literally found this rodent crawling away in the kitchenette area and it was already night time, and this just put me over the edge. In a panic I relocated to a hotel down the street (something I really did not want to do). And this man did not even care to return my deposit or my request for unused remaining nights, making my entire rest of my stay a nightmare as we went back and forth on emails. He tried so much to smooth things over, and then made it seem like I created a problem for him and not the other way around. He really showed me the worst of the worst of Parisian attitude. I took the case to town hall and even hired a lawyer. Renting a unit that YOU KNOW has had past RATS and RODENT ISSUES is illegal by law in France. He continues to list this property as we speak, which is mind-boggling, and I have reported this to the local authorities. I even took it up with a lawyer. Just be aware. Don't let what happened to me happen to you. Look elsewhere at all costs.
