I am not entirely sure what the owner's purpose for running this op shop is. It doesn't appear to…read morebe for a charity, but prices are so cheap that I can't really see it as a place for people who want to make wads of folding money. The only other possibility I can think of is that the owners/workers are passionate about thrift in general, or maybe about recycling and cutting down waste, but I really don't know. Whatever their motives the result is an op shop that has items that are dirt cheap. I often find myself scurrying quickly away from the place in case they change their mind and charge me double on my items--that's right, a whole 80 cents, that's almost a $1! There is even an area outside and to the right of the entrance that has a sign "FREE" where items are free for people to take. No matter how many times you double check, they really mean it, that area is free. From the free zone I've wombled home wine glasses and shoe preservation boxes. Inside the store is three rooms: one for clothes, one for kitchenalia, and one for bric-a-brac and books. They've said they also have a furniture section but if there is one I couldn't work out how to get there but my guess is that it is next door to the main shop.

Cunningham's Warehouse at Brighton used to be a working example of how not to run a store. There…read morewere cardboard boxes everywhere, crappy stock and appalling staff who spent more time arguing with each other and on smoko than serving. That was the past. Since it changed hands a little over a year ago the place has gone from strength to strength, and I overheard that these franchise holders have opened up another store of this kind in Adelaide. These guys are a family business and whilst mum knows where in the sea of items a pocket tripod would be, the son in his early 20s (I'm guessing) is the model of customer service. He's always friendly and helpful without being prying or annoying, I wish more shop assistants were like him. There is so much stock, at unbeatable prices. Whatever item you need, it will be here somewhere. I warn you though, you will NOT walk out without purchasing something, it's just so affordable! Doing craft, sewing, make up, hair, your house, your car, a shin dig, need to stuff a stocking or go to a costume party? These guys will have what you're looking for, for next to nothing. It is difficult getting stuff down from some of the items higher up as the stock is floor to ceiling. Having attended many a costumed function, I've gotten loads of fancy dress items from here. When I talked to another lady about it who lives in my area she remarked "Yes! I love that store, it's a like a bazaar" and I think that's pretty spot on. As long as this family has the reigns I will be coming to this store for my any and everything.

I got a few things and I went up to the counter, I wasn't exactly greeted in the friendliest way, but that's fine. I went on to ask if they would offer a hold , but before I could get my sentence out. The woman cut me off saying she doesn't do holds, The other staff member said they could hold till the end of the day And she seemed really nice about it. But the first woman was really rude and Inconsiderate for not letting me finish my sentence. If she had let me speak, and then said no that would be absolutely understandable. Instead, I felt judged And extremely uncomfortable. For an op shop, you would think the workers would want to help people and respond kindly. I don't mind that we couldnt put our things on hold, more so they way I felt instantly looked down upon. I ended up declining the hold, putting everything back and leaving. I won't be shopping there any longer because of the judgemental staff members.

There is a lot of choice here and there are some nice little finds through the store with some high quality goods, particularly in the coats perspective! A decent range on the clothing side the lack of anything else lets this op-shop down compared to other charity shops in the area.

Hills Discount is quite an anonymous little shop in Stirling despite the fact it's the only cheap…read moreshop in this region. I don't know the history of it as it's either new and not listed just yet or they prefer to stay out of print. Whatever the case it's as I mentioned the only cheap shop around and there is a reasonable mix of stuff you'd expect to find. I asked the Chinese / Vietnamese man behind the counter if they stocked any solar powered lanterns and they didn't, but there are quite a few others which are battery operated or the plain simple decorative ones hanging about. A few kitchen utensils on the side wall and lots of things everywhere I looked, even the man was almost camoflaged. Anyway, it's good it does exist and just across the way from Matilda Books.

If you're young, he may be a little cold towards you and follow you 'discreetly' around the store pretending to rearrange things. This is because so many young Stirling kids used to come here and steal his wares and now he's slightly, justifiably paranoid. I came here just the other day because I needed fake money for a dress up party, the party store across the road didn't have it but Hills Discount didn't disappoint. Basically you will find everything a $2 shop might stock, only some of it has a weird asian twist like the little fighting wooden toys.
