We didn't even get a chance to eat, even though it was included in the price. The café closed at 4:00 PM while the park itself stays open until 5:00 PM, which makes no sense. The pool was also very cloudy, like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. We paid 1,000 pesos for two people since we live in Quintana Roo (about 500 pesos per person), and at that price it's somewhat acceptable. But if you're a tourist paying full price, it's honestly not worth it at all. And what really made the experience uncomfortable: while I was in the women's shower/changing area, a woman walked in with her son who looked around 12 years old, right at the moment when I was changing my underwear. When I pointed out that this was the women's area, she said, "He's just a child." That felt completely inappropriate and uncomfortable. It also doesn't seem like staff are enforcing basic rules about access to changing and shower areas.

At this point, there is very little shade and you are exposed to direct sunlight. Be prepared by carrying bottled water, sunscreen, hats, comfortable walking shoes, and sun glasses! This popular attraction is built around Mayan ruins in combination with local modern art work and sculptures scattered throughout. Large remnants of an ancient temple reside on one end of the peninsula near a cliff. There are plenty of photo opportunities here! Numerous trails and even a cave can be explored, along with scenic views of the surrounding ocean. If it wasn't so hot out and we weren't so limited in our walking abilities, I would have loved to spend more time searching the trails. I'm sure we missed out on many more sights to see!

It is possible that this "temple" was merely a lighthouse, and that the actual Temple of Ixchel, the goddess of the moon, was somewhere else. When Hernando Cortez got here in 1517, the only inhabitants on the island were the priestesses of the goddess Ixchel, and that's how "Isla Mujeres" (Island of women) got its name. The temple and the surrounding cliffs and sea make for some beautiful and breathtaking views and incredible photos. I saw a review that referred to this temple as "a pile of rocks". Wow. Some people are really hard to please. In my opinion, this temple and the nearby lighthouse are the only things worthwhile on this otherwise overly touristy island.

My daughter got three huge empanadas for 95 pesos (less than $5.50 US). I got 4 street style pastor tacos for roughly $4.50 US. We also bought esquites both times for $2 for a small cup. Well worth it. On the second visit, it was late afternoon/early evening. The vibe wasn't as festive, but still busy and lively. The HZ buses drop you off nearby and the walk is very short and extremely safe. On our second visit, we walked from Mercado 28 and it was still very safe.

My group wanted to do snorkeling and at first I was going to go with a place off Viator but Reddit…read moresteered me to Casa del Buceo - it's a small locally owned business and the prices are very fair compared to other places. For reference, a private group of eight on a 2 hour snorkeling tour was 1500 pesos per person. I think we could have done 2.5 hours but more on that later. Booking and confirming the reservation was a breeze - I did it all over email but they also have WhatsApp. Two days before our scheduled date, they asked to push it to a day earlier because the weather was looking bad the morning that we requested so I felt very reassured that they were keeping an eye on the forecast. Now I've only gone snorkeling once before but the snorkeling around the island gets pretty choppy with the waves. I'm saying that as someone who gets seasick at the drop of a hat and even thought I took medication before this trip, I still got super seasick as soon as the boat stopped and we were just swaying around and putting on our fins. Getting in the water and seeing all the cool fish (the visibility was great) helped but by the end of the second snorkeling stop (where they took us out much deeper and the waves were ROUGH), a few others and I were basically green and we called the end of the tour and headed back. I can't say enough good things about the people who work here, from the guy who helped get us set up with our equipment and later brought me a mug of super fizzy Coke to help settle my stomach to our tour guide who pointed out neat things below us (like the underwater sculptures at MUSA). I will say that the actual mechanics of snorkeling was a learn as you go approach - we didn't get much instruction other than just to blow on the googles if they fogged up - so unless you're an experienced snorkeler/swimmer, you might spend the first ten minutes accidentally gulping salt water. Once I did get the hang of it, it was a lot of fun. And even though the open water got terrifying near the end and, despite my nausea, I was fighting back fears of being swept away on the current, I felt safe that our guide was somewhere close around us. I don't think snorkeling is in the cards for me in the near future but for anyone else who's interested, I can't recommend CdB enough!

With our entrance we had access to chairs with umbrellas, snorkeling and the inflatables in the water. The water was refreshing this time of year. The staff is atty and they speak English. If you have a car or scooter there is ample parking. The negative is that there is not a lot of sandy beach to lay around because of the rocks. If you want more sandy beaches there are many public beaches to access. The food was disappointing and overpriced.

There are two main large pools, separated by an arched pedestrian bridge. Both are infinity pools and are only 4 feet deep. The pool closest to the beach has two sets of "water beds" (slightly submerged ceramic "beds") and 2 large hot tubs next to the pool. There are far more lounge chairs at this pool than the other. There are two slightly shallow pool areas too. A nice feature of this pool is a swim up bar belonging to the Viento Bar & Grill. You can also eat your meals at the swim up too if you wish. There are two towel stations and two bars. There are two wheelchair accessible lifts into the pool. When a rainstorm is close, they will blow whistles and get everyone out of the pool.
