I do remember the food being very good and one of my first experiences of proper food. Since the new owners took over, the standards have only gone up. They've kept their AA Rosette by sticking to good, locally sourced food done without too much fuss. I took my staff here for the annual post-Christmas meal. The place is favoured by older folk and the setting always reminds me of being in someone's lounge rather than a restaurant. The building is essentially just another old cottage in the village which has been converted into a restaurant, which brings it's own charm with low ceilings and exposed wood. It also comes across as fairly unpretentious. We chose from the set menu which was £25 or so for three courses. Nicely balanced menu, which is always good when you have a choice of 4 for each course - it makes decisions easy as well. The restaurant was fairly full by the time our food came, and the service was always pretty slick but relaxed enough for a Sunday lunch. Everyone enjoyed their meal, washed down with a few bottles of the house wine - a very respectable Sauvignon Blanc. In summary, a decent place. Probably slightly above the average in terms of cost for the area (especially for a village), but it's definitely worth it. Especially when you consider how many times I've paid that much and had a very average meal.

Exquisite food! Decor a little dated but it didn't deter. A truly special experience!read more

Ambiance was nice but don't expect authentic Spanish food. First of all, this restaurant is…read moresuffering from a major identity crisis. It claims to be a "Spanish restaurant" but even serves Mexican food(quesadillas and nachos, which were both sub-par by the way), French food(cassoulet), Italian(Ciabatta sandwich, pizza), and to top it all off, even Thai food (Thai chicken) and Japanese food (tempura) too!! Quéeeee???? Huh?? I think they should focus on just Latin food at least instead of being so ambitious. Overall, the food can be summarized as anglicized Latin food, but fortunately (or unfortunately) the local clients(almost 100% white English people) seem to love it....I guess it suits their palate...Sobre gusto no hay nada escrito de verdad, no? Bottom line: The hype and ambiance outweigh the quality of the confused food. But hey, you might like it .... at least the Plymouth locals do!

Clientele mixed and you never feel out of place there. It might be "ladies that lunch" or hip young things (even slightly worn old blokes like me). Reasonable drinks on offer. Have run a few large group nights and if you talk the management (and pay for the additional staff) he will let you have the upstairs. Well worth a visit, my favourite time is early evening or mid afternoon to chill out, eat and read my book.

Very bistro style. The table was set up for one, which was good. Often when I dine solo the table is either set up for two which stays there the whole time or they tidy away the plates while I'm sat there. Nothing drums home the dining alone thing like the other plates being tidied away. The waiter was extremely French, which I liked. He bought me a wine list over and a menu and left me to it. I ordered quickly - lamb cutlets with Boulanger potatoes, broccoli and some roast veg. I had a large glass of wine also. The wine list was extensive but expensive. There was only maybe 3 options of wine by the glass. Then the cheapest bottle was probably £20 or so. I was bought over the wine, a bread roll and the nicest touch was that I was offered a couple of food related magazines to read. That was good, and something that I've not been offered yet while dining alone. The food was really good. It was a good portion size, cooked really well. I finished up and ordered a Tart Tatin for pudding. It was a really good tart, I'd probably say it was even better than my own. All in all, it was a good boozy lunch experience. I'll go again of an evening at some point.
