What a great addition to the ever-expanding dining options on the rue Bichat! This new organic canteen is an unfussy restaurant run by a mom and daughter duo. One whole side of the restaurant is an open-kitchen where you can see the lovely kitchen team roasting, baking, pureeing, juicing and mixing things up right in front of you. The rest of the cool city-loft space is full of tall family-style tables with bar stool seats, a little mezzanine nook with cushions, and colorful Japanese lanterns suspended from the ceiling. The menu has just three dishes, three rice bowls in vegetarian, meat or fish versions, all for approx 8€ and a bunch of yummy baked goods and fresh-squeezed juices. I ordered the chicken and rice bowl that was super satisfying and healthy with a very memorable beet purée that was just divine. My one critique was that it was a little under-seasoned, so be sure to add some soy sauce or salt to perk things up. I found this restaurant through lespetitestables.com, a guide that shows you great cheap eats in Paris. What a warm and inviting place! The first thing I noticed when stepping into Le Bichat was the delicious odors of grilled vegetables and the faint wisps of chocolate cake. I ordered a bowl, which comes with the "base of the day" (rice + cooked vegetables + raw veggies) and a supplement (vegetarian, egg, chicken, pork, etc). To top it off I finished it with a tea, which is self serve and comes in a large kettle, in addition to a gluten free piece of cake. Simple and cheap concept, good quality ingredients, friendly service and outdoor space: I'll definitely be back. A great, well priced spot! I've been disappointed several times by vegetarian restaurants in paris, but I would definitely come back here again. I had the special rice bowl of the day with mackerel. The fish was a bittt dry, but the rice with veggies was fantastic! I am not sure what sauce is used, but the mix of beets, cabbage, grilled veg, etc was SO good. You definitely feel healthy after your meal :) A tip though do not pay 4 euros for the boring lemonade. read more

I love this place and come here weekly when I'm in Paris. It is fresh and delicious and healthy.

I've had this place bookmarked to go to for a long time and only finally got around to going this past week. I hosted my monthly book club here, and I must say that it was an excellent venue for it. The upstairs mezzanine allows for a relaxed "homey" vibe where you can sit around like you were at your own house. People can get their own food and drink as they want without having to wait for others to arrive or worrying about how to split up the bill at the end. Everything is self-service and non-pretentious. The food itself is very healthy if somewhat basic. The concept is good, but the flavors could be amped up a notch to make it more savory. Their standard "bowl" selections (from which you can choose vegan, egg, fish, or meat) are Asian-inspired, but lack the more robust taste that you would get from a bowl of similar stylings at a Japanese or Vietnamese restaurant. I had the vegan version and was somewhat underwhelmed. Also, the fact that they have chopsticks on the table but no soy sauce confused me a bit. The food was decent, but not something that I would be craving in the future. The wine offerings are good (especially given that they are bio/organic, which usually does not bode well for the taste for some reason) along with beer, coffee/teas, and fresh made juices. It's also a good work space during the day with free wifi. This is the kind of place I'd come back to if I was passing by and wanted to do a bit of work, read a book, and have a cup of tea. But to eat, I'd go across the street to Tien Hang, which does fabulous vegetarian food. So, overall, a respectful nod to the place, but not the highest on my list of destination vegetarian meals. read more
